mjryan when you mentioned the remakes of The Maltese Falcon I thought I'd throw in the remakes of Little Women... I'm sure you know Melanie Griffith or is it Griffin anyway she is Tippi Hedren's daughter. Which made me wonder if she has a hand in the remake...producing it or in any other way...gwtwbooklover

I am starting to think that Hollywood doesn't know what to do with Jennifer Lopez or she can't find a role.. I know, I know, this is a classic movie sight and well ...but I'm just saying. I have watched her in Enough and parts of Maid in Manhattan and all of Monster in Law. I would like to see Out of Sight. But she is a victim she is poor she is all over the place. I'ld like to think there is some acting chops in there somewhere. I would like to see the move she made with Mark Anthony. I just think she's miscast or lost in a movie. She has no anchors in the movies I have seen her in.. I mean no parents, no husband or atleast he is an a-hole and even worse she has no ethnicticity in her roles. Has anyone else noticed this. Believe me I don't want Jennifer regulated to certain roles like Gina Lollabridgeda or back in the day how they didn't let certain actors out of their box. Or their perceived box if you will has this occured to you as you watch Jennifer Lopez? Anyway the best role I have seen her in is as a schoolteacher in the movie Jack. This was a small role but memorable to me and believeable.

Our Netflix of Monster in law came in and I saw Jane Fonda and Wanda Sykes steal the movie from J-Lo. I realized when this came in that we have been on a Jane Fonda Kick with our Netflix so far we have seen Klute and Coming Home and when I discovered she was in the original Dick and Jane I ordered it. Jane did a wonderful role and I thought she was so willing to play her role and proud of what she wore and how she appeared. Oh how can I put this I don't want to sound mean or be misunderstood she was sleeveless and at time make-upless and she looked like she should for a woman in her 60s. Lord older actresses usually cover it all up and this is what I am trying to say I admired this performance in Jane. She looked lovely she looked her age. I rate her an 8. I have to say my affection for Henry shines on Jane and that voice no one else sounds like Jane. I have yet to see any thing with Peter Fonda in it. I have to tell you all what my son said when we sat to watch Monster in Law he said "her husband was in On Golden Pond, Henry" I got tickled and corrected him. Oh yes we watched On Golden Pond not to long ago which is further the Fonda kick we are on...

Not horrific but sooo amusing Abbott and Costello meets Frankenstein...when the boys deliver the goods at the museum. Of course lots is up and Abbott is to late to see what Costello sees BUT we do and Costello's telling of what is going on is hilarious. I die of laughter everytime Costello can't speak and he does his pantomine of Frankenstein and Dracula-priceless. If you guys haven't seen this movie you have to see it just once and then if you are like me you'll watch till this part I described above and then check in for the line...that goes something like ..I know what I saw when I said that I saw it...

Wow I didn't know Lucy was up for Ball of Fire....well wonder how that would have been...hard for me to picture it...but to Lucy's defense she took what roles she was assigned so she could work and therefore eat..in the early 40s and late 30s(was she acting then?) I mean no pay no food. Plus I believe Lucy had folks back home who were depending on her. Therefore if she didn't work they didn't eat either. Plus, I cannot think of one comedic movie Davis was in can you? Could she do romantic and comedy-Bette Davis....I for one have stated time and again I like Lucy better in her movies than the TV show. Desi, William Frawley and Vivian Vance will always be my fav from the TV show. Lucy dabbled in it all drama, comedy, romance and repeatedly. I don't think anyone would have such a long career if there was no talent even if they were B parts. Plus sometimes it takes awhile to peak now typing that I know she was at it years and years but maybe she is and has a right to be remembered also because of the machinations of her years in Hollywood. What the exposure of her years in Hollywood brought to the silver screen and to the TV screen( and Desi also he had to take what roles came along also) she acted and paid attention and had a hell of a run. Except of the falter with her last TV show she was right on with her instincts.

Let me agree with you putzegirl5 here here I for one would love to see Sybil. That movie has had such a profound effect on me-I carry around memories of watching it and I have for years. An excellent made for TV movie and Brian's Song another excellent movie I could go for seeing it. And how about the complete showing of Roots-now I could go for seeing it. As a young child I saw Roots night after night and was enthralled. I especially appreciate well made movies whatever source they may be. As for the no animals harmed theme how about big stars on the little screen? Now I know they about did the disease of the week to death but there are some gems in the made for Tv movies no doubt. BTW something else I'ld love to see is a beauty paegant I saw in the 80s the Miss NC what a show so entertaining. They had former winners hosting the event and I loved it. The paegant was a constant delivery of entertainment esp. the footage of the winner who dropped her crown....well I support your idea putzgirl5-great idea.

Do you know if they are in close proximity to each other? I'm not familiar with New York City or Manhattan or the Battery. Do you know from the window if you will that Randall points out of is where the WTC would be erected in a mile or 5 mile radius or am I completely off the mark? I know that Manhattan is an island. And as much as I hate to admit it I could not begin to pin point just where what burrough the WTC where in.....?

Mongo how did Gene Kelley get the scar on the left side of his face? Also do you know if Steve Bogart the son of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall is a song writer? A country singer Dierks Bentley mentions a song that a Steve Bogart has a hand in writing and I wonder if it is Bogart and Bacall's son. Which leads to my next ? Sam Robards is he in the family business? If not what is he up to? Thanks....gwtwbooklover

I went to the imdb to try to answer my ? and in a way it does. It says Pillowtalk was filmed in New York, New York and Manhattan, New York. My ? is about a scene with Tony Randall and Doris Day. Randall is trying to talk Doris out of her love affair with Rex Stetson and what her carrying on a love affair with him would mean. For instance if she married him they would live in Texas and therefore she would leave the city where he felt she truly belonged. He then points out the window and we the movie audience is shown the city buildings. I have a ? about the surroundings of the city shot. I don't mean to be disrespectful and I hope I am not it is about The World Trade Centers and a church. Does anyone know where this window shot is taking- is the future WTC buildings near there(since this movie was shot in 1959)? And the church or the building the shot mostly features I am assuming it is a church since it looks like a church I saw a story about when a man was doing research on past volcanoes and he talked about volcanic ash. There was a church which did not have any debris from the falling WTC and I believe that was the church or building shown in PIllowtalk. He said the surrounding buildings sheilded the church from the debris from the WTC. The volcanic ash story was on the discovery channel I believe or National Geographic. God this is a hard one to ask.

I think the fatrher was played by William Shatner if I have the right movie. I can remember one of the neighbors being jealous of the husband's thoughtfullness to make a device to get water or pump water to her and the oldest son making sure not to give any of the children to this lady. Also the father worked at the mill and the oldest boy went with him and then he went by himself at the end. Alan Hale Jr. played the mill manager?? and he and Shatner got into fiticuffs and because of that Shatner gains Hale's respect. A scene that especially sticks with me is the gift of yeast from a neighbor who tells the mother to take care of it and it will last for years. In this disposable society and when I throw something away or when I wish I could cook this crosses my mind from time to time. Also I have to admit that it was strange to see Shatner in this movie at first I thought hey that's William Shatner...and waited for the enterprise to show up.....just kidding..seriously sometimes it is hard to seperate acters roles from a more famous role.....

I own A VHS copy of Pillowtalk thanks to my friend who gave it to me..thanks again...Rock Hudson and Doris Day are talking about families and the comment is made that people don't have big families anymore. Doris says maybe it is economics that people can't afford big families anymore. Rock says it is because of the late late show at night and then Dave Caraway in the morning. My ? is who is Dave Caraway? A New York personality or as my son guessed a morning show personality as the likes of Harry Smith or Regis? Thanks for the info.

I love Objective Burma I sit on the edge of my seat whenever I watch it and other than the slanted history what a movie!

I watched Last Tango in Paris I had it forever put didn't have a chance to watch it. I got off work early and had the time- it was different. A very different movie. Bob, Carol, Ted and Alice came in on our netflix order and it was, well it had some unexpected scenes and when it was over I said I don't get it. So then I did get it well some of it. It was so hilarious at points esp. when Bob comes home from San Fransico unexpectedly. I died laughing. I finished my next netflix movie Leave Her to Heaven. Let me say that I am so tickled that my choices are coming in YEA! Wonder how long it will last......anyway....I ordered it after watching the drowning scene when the former Child Stars were on some months ago and Darryl Hickman was one of the child stars. I thought this was a good movie poor Gene's character was sooo co-dependent dern. Vincent Price was so good. There is a commentary which I haven't watched yet. Darryl Hickman and someone named Richard Sheikal are the commentary spokesman. With the DVD are some footage of the stars arriving at the premiere of Leave Her to Heaven and a preview of a couple of more movies and some of some people holding Oscars they had won.

WOW Drum boogie indeed-did I mention I love that dress. It is so glittery I can't take my eyes off of it. Wonder if it was about of the MGM studio sell off in the 70s or this movie is probably not affiliated with mgm.

I was looking for Read Any Good Books Lately and well this post came up and I have a comment after reading all the posts. Dances with Wolves has anyone read this book? One would probably assume it is an all encompassing book( it is but bear with me) I mean a lonnnnng book. Suffice to say the movie was long. I remember them calling it Kevin's Gate. It was an epic movie, rich in detail, and just lovingly and beautifully done based on a book a few hundred pages long. Sometimes the chapters were just a few pages long 1 or 2. When I read this book the the movie played in my mind it was wonderful the book and movie. See when Costner made this movie he took this little book and fleshed it out and he and the researchers did their homework. I remember when I finished the book I thought boy did they ever do that book justice on the silver screen and then some. They are some changes with the book when it went to the screen with the story but very, very little.
