  1. I can not beliveve I missed it! Perhaps the boy would have recorded it for me if I had asked(and got on my knees). I want to see that movie so bad. We just joined Netflixs maybe I'll make it one of my requests. I requested Judy Garland's duets and my yougest requested Fun with Dick and Jane and my oldest requested Robot Chicken.
  2. movieman and vallo thank you for the info i printed the essay but my printer acted up some however, I went to the paradummy website and read it fascinated. It tells how the 100 of dummies were dropped with 6 men with them. The Longest Day didn't detail this and I was glad to get this info. This was my first veiwing of The Longest Day and I'm glad I watched. I was even yelling at the TV urging the allies on-thanks TCM for the Memorial Day marathon
  3. The books are free-someone asked me how much I wanted for a book. They are free and I'll even pay for the postage as I can afford to do so I just want to get them to someone who'll enjoy them......gwtwbooklover
  4. Yes, CharlieT THe Last Starfighter is the movie I was referring to it was a fav of my sister.
  5. CineSageJr-I wondered about that the scaling and the soldiers saying there's nothing here-you mean it is empty. The Germans also run out saying something that sounds like 'bitter-bitter" in one point of the movie before the soldires find the empty place don't know if the 2 scenes were related. I mean sooo much was happening during that movie.
  6. I was cleaning my room and was watching Task Force with Gary Cooper and it started in Black and White and was for a long time and then when I look up(I was listening intently) it was in color! My ? is why? Robert didn't even comment on it at the end which I thought he would. When the technology improved for air craft carriers did they switch to color? What was the deal? Thanks in advance.
  7. Who was the actor who was with Richard Burton at the end of the movie The Longest Day? I saw so many of the cast names and said I didn't see him like Robert Wagner-missed him. But I have no clue who that actor was-he was a member of the 82nd Airborne and he gives Richard a ciggarette.
  8. I was pleasntly surprised to learn that the allies used parachuting dummies during the attack of Normandy. I esp. liked the germans saying parachuting dummies in german it sounded funny. How many did they drop? Are there any dummies on display in the US or a website to see one. Which part of France did they put the dummies? Where the German generals thought the invasion would take place?
  9. Crap! I know a movie like this but I can't remember the title if you are trying to remember the same movie I am. Did the boy who was a teenager live in a trailor park? He was the best at the game and the aliens sucked him in to play for real against the baddies? He always had the high score. The lead good guy alien looked like a brown turtle? Anyway maybe if this is your movie perhaps someone else might know the title and if it isn't I apologize for butting in excuse me.BTW the movie I saw came on TBS alot in the late 80s I can't recall any stars names but the boy was dark haired, the lead.
  10. I was cleaning my room while watching the war movies and came across books I'm sure you TCMers would be interested in only thing is that I'll mail them to you if you'll leave your address in the private messages and the first come first serve. I will mail them off to you, I will not share the info with anyone and as a matter of fact delete the address off my messages as soon as I get the package ready. I will mail them as I can afford to do so...please no dealers(I always wanted to do that) Here are the titles: 1. Don't Fall Off the Mountain-by Shirley MacLaine it is paperback and a good read about her interesting life and travels not heavy on Hollywood stories but a good read. 2.Anybody Who Owns His Own Home Deserves It by Alan King-it is paperback. It is funny esp. about the insurance salesman story. 3. Gable & Lombard& Powell & Harlow by Joe Morella & Edward Z. Epstein-it is paperback but has a lots of photos and is a good read. The writing on the cover says The intimately revealing story of four romantically intertwined lives in a gaudy, golden Hollywood era when real life passions outdid anything on the screen. 4.The Ragman's Son by Kirk Douglas-his autobiography a good read a must for a big Douglas fan-it is paperback. 5. A Summer Place which is the book the movie was based on by Sloan Wilson-a good read and you can hear that theme playing while you read it...6. The Greatest My Own Story by Muhammad Ali with Richard Durham(I haven't read this just parts) It is hardback. The copyright date is 1975. 7. Lauren Bacall NOW Written after By Myself but before the newer version of By Myself its copyright date is 1994. It is Hard back and became mine for $2.00 at my out of town library it says it has 40 photos-a good read though I liked By Myself better. I have tried to set up a way to do this before we got this new version of communicating so you oldtimers might think this sounds familiar. I did this when I joined book for soldiers when I cleaned out my CD collection and had some takers. The Cds went to Iraq and to one ship to its library. Like I've posted I promise to not share your info with anyone and I will not contact you in anyway I'll just mail it off without my return address. The postmark will be from Arkansas in a brown envelope or brown packaging. However, if I have no takers I'll just tke them to my local okay my 33 miles away goodwill place(I Love that place) I will not be offended if there are no takers since one has to be so careful about who they get mail from these days. Thank you for reading sorry it was so long.
  11. What were the men in the canal doing in the water by Red Buttons and his wife's home. At first glance I thought they were fishing but the water is not very deep or it doesn't appear to be on camera. They were showed with multi colored cloths or nets??? under the water moving it back and forth and side to side by the walk over bridge. Also was Sayonara based on a true story I mean the couple played by Brando and his intended? I'm sure it was based on a real situation.
  12. Howdy! Welcome and Salutations! redriver glad to have you aboard. Did you pick your name from the movie Red River? There is a movie called red river isn't there with Montgomery Clift?
  13. Wow I didn't know that about Joanna Barnes what do you know...
  14. I have thought of a way to fund the preservation perhaps the studios could devote some money for the costs or maybe those overpaid stars could fork over some money...it makes my blood boil to think how much todays stars are paid compared to the older stars who were more entertaining. Coffedan they have solved the decaying problem with the modern films (they are some good recent films) haven't they? Thank you for the info and thanks to those teams trying to save our movie heritage.
  15. LuckyDan come back and tell us who said it I like that line...
  16. born in '84 go back lissa24 your not done cooking(fully mature I mean) No offense meant it is just not often I can come up with a good comment! Aren't we suppose to age? I think I'd rather have my experiences and the way they made me stronger or wiser than my looks which aren't what they use to be. Anyway I have a comment for DOSFAN1 and I'll repeat it and hope it will get posted this time. I was wondering...I am 36 years old and the Osmands are a twinkle in my memory so I'm assuming you may be older than I? I remember the MacNicols and like I say just barely. A penny for a movie is a buy!!! Get it! I mean something on sale makes me giddy the older I get. Besides like filmlover told you it ain't gonna be on TCM because of the made for TV movie rule. Except for maybe Going Coconuts that was theatrical release wasn't it and I'm sorry to say they probably won't show it but then again they did show Chasity or whatever that Sonny and Cher movie was but don't hold your breath. Besides, are any of these movies in the MGM library or catalogue of movies that Turner laid his lovely hands on...Ted I'm still single and willing to run through your film collection in my bare feet....gwtwbooklover.....we already have the love of gwtw in common....
  17. Yes, Jack I had forgotten about her singing that song.....and then one of the twins was named Hallie. Thank you for the info about Sid. Do you know if he finished his book about Judy Garland? And if it was published? Gerald Clarke wrote in his credits that he appreciated Sid talking to him although he was working on his own book. Her last husband whose name eludes me Deans? was writing one also.
  18. By utilizing the database for the first time my suspiscions were confirmed! They remade Ninotchka into the musical Silk Stockings. Silk Stockings has got to be, to me mind you, one of the most boring movies made-hate it. As I was getting ready for work Ninotchka was on and I thought this sounds just like Silk Stockings in parts and when I saw the summary for Stockings and Cyd Charisse plays Ninotchka it is TRUE! I can't believe it. I guess everybody else knew it but me. I like the actors in Silk Stockings but that movie is awful wonder how it did at the box office? It might have been a big movie for all I know like Anchors Away which when Robert Osborne said it was a big, big hit you could have knocked me over with a feather. I didn't like it either. I would have preferred to watch Singing in the Rain.
  19. What does Picayune mean? Rock Hudson's character worked at the New Orleans Picayune is this word another word for paper or information?? Also was wondering if the book tells what happens eventually to Jiggs who was wonderfully played by Jack Carson. The movies tells what happens to Laverne and Jack but doesn't tell what happens to Jiggs except maybe that he might have went mad-the last we see is Jiggs calling for Roger or did he go to work as a mechanic for someone else?
  20. I have two questions the first is any info about Joe Luft and for that matter how is Sid Luft. Wondering about Joe I hope he was able to continue in his photography work. Well the I have 3 questions then. I was watching My Favorite Wife being advertised and I saw a famaliar scene. Anyway to find out if Dennis Quaid copied or was inspired by the elevator scene in Wife to do a take similiar to it in the remake of The Parent Trap? The reactions are so similiar I just wondered. Quaid sees his ex-wife who he thought was in England as the elevator closes and lunges over with the closing of the door sort of like Grant does in Wife. I also recall (it has been awhile since I saw Parent Trap) the 2 wifes also doing the same wave at the surprised men. Just Wondering...thanks Mongo "I suspect you are treasure"
  21. I sent you a message and this may be the one given you problems I was wondering if you were the same person as the one who had the Moria in front of their username? I was moving into my new home and you had moved to a new place of your own. We also had soe communication about old TV shows. You also posted about your pet. I didn't know if you were the one and the same since it said you had 22 posts at that time any way- I just wanted to say HELLO if it was you,,,gwtwbooklover
  22. Well I can't post and this is the 3rd time and I'm upset. My posting disappeared when I tried to send it the post message mode this happened at approx.11:09. My first message was accepted in the ask Mongo thread and in the other words Trivia thread but not my 2 cents to DOSFAN1 that was lost. I didn't think to write down what does appear I will next time but I do know I can't go back to the posting when I push back it just sends me to the Forum Home. Hope you all can work this out soon....gwtwbooklover
