  1. What is Atlas Shrugged about fellas?
  2. I'll take a wrong guess she travels with him.
  3. Thank you very much for the info and kind words. I have a few more questions. How long did the hour long shows with the 2 original couples air. I remember while still in the country the Ricardos had another couple they ran around with for some reason I want to say it was a band leader and his wife. Harry James and Betty Grable perhaps??-I am probably way off base. On TVLand they have started at 11:30amCST the whole I Love Lucy episodes again from the beginning. Did I Love Lucy suffer in the ratings?? is this the reason they started showing it once a month for an hour? Or did something else happen?
  4. Curses! So I am lying in bed and I realize that Tonya is not the person I mean that they leave you on tenderhooks about....so... the girl Alec Guiness is talking to and the person he thinks he has found this is the part where you wonder is his search over??? I have to tell you one part about Dr. Zhivago that tickles me is when Tonya suggests to the good doctor that he make a trip into town where unbeknowst to Tonya Lara is...you and I know and Yuri knows..... just the shot of the music and the look of Yuri's eyes..priceless. I mean after all Tonya suggested it didn't she?? Julie Christie is so beautiful also but I liked her better in Farenhuit 450.
  5. I have a TV question Mongo I hope it is welcome. I am going to assume that on I Love Lucy that when Lucy and Ricky moved to the country it was toward the end of the run of the original show. My question is how much longer after the move to the country did I Love Lucy stay on the air? Thank You in advance. I think of so many questions to ask you and then I forget them when it is my turn at the computer. I'm going to try to write them down. Can you believe it the questions I've forgotten are movie questions....gwtwbooklover
  6. JonParker have you seen Abbot and Costello meet Frankenstein?? It is very funny. We read the Who's on First routine in our literature book when I was in High School.
  7. well call me TYPO I meant it.... is better than the book... and.... to me it is...sorry about my typing
  8. Oh yes they show it from time to time-I love this movie. To mean it is better than the big it was culled from the book is a little different. I watch it and I love how it leaves you on tenderhooks as to (is she or is she not) Tonya I mean. What agony. Then I love Omar's eyes oh what beautiful eyes. I also admire the butt kicking performance give by Rod Steiger. I didn't like that character one little inch but Steiger was wonderful. Oh and the music tinkling like a music box. I saw it for sale once at Hastings if there is one near you.
  9. What is a truncheon? and if you don't mind my asking how did you run across it and the sword(you lucky dog) was it an auction? do you have any other articles you'd wish to tell about. TCM shows the 72 releasing of the props and costumes that MGM had in storage boy I wish I could have been there and with some money. I have the cards baseball style type cards that were giving out at the theatre when Bull Durham came out this is the extent of my collections....
  10. Well they had an episode of Three's Company that was similiar to that plot line but of course that doesn't answer your question. Where was Dick Sargent in That Touch of Mink? At the credit card company? gmabfd J. Fiedler played the man at the end that was having his honeymoon spoliled by interruptions from Young and Grant and he has a hilarious conversation with his mother.
  11. Well, someone mentioned the first one to come to my mind and that's the Ralph Bellamy line said by Cary Grant. However, I can recall one from TV from the show Family Ties and Meredith Baxter Birney saying when she's visiting someone and they have twins she says "twins I don't know what I would do if I ever had twins" and of course she had given birth to twins in real life. It got a big laugh from the audience. Then there is the Nanny don't know if you all saw that show but the person playing CC Babcock was extemely pregnant and they did not breathe one word about just left it out of the script. This woman was as big as a house bless her heart and they had her carrying big handbags but it was so obvious and sometimes they didn't cover her up at all but like I said it was left out of the script. So the character of CC brings up the subject of other TV shows trying to disguise pregnancies and what a bad jpb they were doing and how they tried to cover it up. Then CC turns around with one of the posters from a Broadway show and it says BABY in pink and the audience just roars.
  12. I liked the scenes or stills or even better the dialogue added to the Garland version of A Star is Born. I could understand it better it flowed better for me.
  13. Posting about Academy Awards and disgust with the cutting off of speeches in general makes me wonder about Greer Garson. I have read that for Mrs. Miniver she had a long acceptance speech. Is this true? How long was it? Who gave the longest acceptance speech and I assume the reson they cut them short now is because the shows run over because of long acceptance speeches? Anyway of finding out who said what in their acceptance speeches short of running down the telecasts? Do they have a link for that at the Academy website is there an Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences website at all. If so I wonder if they have Brando's "acceptance speech" for when he won for the Godfather? Off to bed with me. Thanks Mongo I hope I'm not to much of a bother..gwtwbooklover.
  14. I like that idea of pairing younger Hollywood with older Hollywood that would be cool I think. I enjoyed the pics of Jane-YOU GO GIRL! I was surprised at the win of Its Hard Out Here for a Pimp since I thought it didn't have a snowball's chance. Let me say also I haven't seen Hustle and Flow but maybe it stuck closer to the movie I mean the song matched the movie? And therefore a better choice? I couldn't understand the singing by the lady for the Crash song I could grasp a word or two but it was boring and like I said muddled.... Same goes for Dolly's song it was no 9 to 5 which I love and it totally fits the movie to a "T" but this song Traveling Through hated it it was blase. However, the camera went to Felicity Huffman while Dolly was singing and Felicity was singing the words with Dolly and I thought that was sweet. Didn't Eminen win for 8MIle well the song from that movie am I remembering that correctly? See that song fit that movie and as much as I hate to admit it that was a good movie. I also enjoyed It's Hard.. writers accepting their award it was refreshing and truly exuburent(MSP-sorry)
  15. thanks mongo for the info on who else was nominated with Liz when she was for BF8
  16. What I was wondering about Jones though is why he is listed as Tom Lee Jones in the credits and why he is now Tommy Lee Jones. I mean is Tommy Lee his real name or did he add it for whatever reason? And How long did he go by Tom Lee before he switched to Tommy Lee? I knew Tommy Lee went to school with Gore I heard him mention it on an interview- I hate to admit it I thought man he's been around a long, long time. I
  17. Fred you have me giggling with Our American Cousin post how funny and Ralph correcting you Yes that would be the Tonys- you both are a riot! I'm off to bed with mirth in my heart. Good Night TCMers.
  18. This is cool but I couldn't guess correctly I never could do word games or puzzles. I read your posts and it reminds me of the word play ?s on Jeopardy and I never get those. It use to make me sick when Ken Jennings just zipped through those ?s during his run on Jeopardy.
  19. I have another ? When the credits ran for Love Story it listed Tom Lee Jones for the actor we all know as Tommy Lee Jones-how long did he go by Tom Lee? Wondered what made him go by Tommy Lee other than it rolls off the tongue better or maybe I'm use to it and the other seems foreign? Is Tommy Lee Jones his real name and he just went back to it?
  20. 1st of all what does treacle mean? I'm assuming it is bad. Now boy there was a lot of cursing in this movie which made me wince I mean they peppered it with foul language. Aside from this and including the performances of Milland and Marley I thought it was a good movie. The photography was great like you say but I thouhgt Ali McGraw really nailed Jenny and I guess O'Neal was the go to guy for guy parts back then but I thought it was a good movie. About the cameras-so if the scene is a walking scene and the camera with the antivibration is filming it would show the scene straight? even if the scene was someone filming someone walking on a trampoline and the camera man is on said trampoline?
  21. well I'll be a monkey's uncle I always had it in my little pea head that she didn't win-go figure....thanks for the info so Butterfield 8 was released after Cat on a Hot Tin Roof? and this is where Liz felt she got the sympathy Oscar so I have another ? which year did Liz win for BF8 and who else were running against Liz. I almost bought the Kitty Kelly book about Liz The Last Star but changed my mind. But I did find a hardcover of GWTW my other hardcopy was old and it fell apart and then I bought a paperback but found one today for $3.00 YIPPEE!
  22. Guys I was thrilled to see Lauren she was a shot in the arm to my TV watching. I did wince with the fumbling of her words but I believe it was a teleprompter problem and possibly she needed her glasses?? I don't know but I was so glad to see her and she was first class and went on with the show even if she was left dangling by the prompter. What was with that damn music while the winners were doing their acceptance speech or atleast the "minor awards" now that was the height of rudeness. They were playing the music even before the people got there and I couldn't hear the speeches. And I know KNOW Witherspoon and Hoofman went over their limit and Clooney. Who's fool idea was it to play this music it was just wrong!!!
  23. I don't but what a movie-have you seen it already? Feel assured TCM will show it again they repeat offerings sometimes to often but I love TCM so I forgive them that is till they show a movie I want to see in the middle of the night-CURSES!
  24. Mongo-who else was up for the Oscar the year Susan Hayward was nominated for I Want to Live? thanks in advance.
  25. Bless your heart maddening isn't it? I missed the last 30 minutes of The Romance of Rosy Ridge and was just sick. Wasn't Susan Hayward wonderful in her portrayl of Barbara Graham. I have never seen this movie all the way through but I have seen the end. They put cyanide eggs in a pot and this is what kills her but she fights it as long as she can. Hayward went through the emotions of one trying to live despite the poison that was coming. Her face when she hears the 1st egg fall and I believe there were 2 or 3 but Hayward holds to the arms of the chair and she tries not to breathe and then she has to it is very powerful. Try to catch it when it comes back on again. Isn't it something how the press labeled her and condemned her much like things happen today. However, it is to that one newsman credit that he tries to listen to Babs story. Who else was nominated the year Susan Hayward was? She was soooo good in that role and I thought beautiful. It hard to believe she didn't win since this movie delved into the seedy business of small time croocks, loose women and immorality alot deeper that another movie I think up to that point and not to many after that for that matter.
