  1. Slappy just wanted to thank you for the title of the book Hud was based on-I have great intentions to get to the library to check it out. I have read Lonesome Dove and I loved it. I didn't know he wrote non-westerns either you learn something new everyday-huh?

  2. A thought provoking and good question coffeedan1927 because they worked their hearts out on those black and white films. I mean since it was in black and white the costumes were no less dramatic or beautiful and I'm sure the burning of Atlanta, the sword fights, the world's fair exhibits, and the characters of Oz would have been carried out as well as humanely possible whether it was in black or white or color. Good Question.

  3. Guys I love Judy Garland but for some reason when I first sat down to watch the Wizard of Oz-I couldn't. It was to far fetched the whole concept but I made myself watch it. I cried like a baby at the end and still do. Which leads to the ending of Meet Me in ST. Louise-I couldn't watch this right off I found it boring. Again I watched it after about 3 false starts and I ball at the end of it also. Both have good endings.

  4. Here, here, here edge I didn't even think of that a star commentaring on their movie how grand. They do that now with new movies on DVD-I didn't even think about older movies with commentary-a great idea.

  5. No I haven't see Torch Song or the parody by the Carol Burnett Show but I have seen the parody of Mildred Pierce and will watch Mildred Pierce the movie any chance I get-a great movie. What I remember of the parody is Carol is at the police station and the cop says start from the beginning and she says "Well, I was born.." and the cop says maybe not that far back...

  6. Wondering if this has ever happened to anyone else-you are in the middle of a movie and you don't get to see the end. It first happened to me when a was in the 5th grade. Our teacher brought the TV in one day and we got to see A Raisin in the Sun with Sidney Poiter and then the next day she couldn't get the TV again and we never saw the end. I've always wanted to see it even at this late date and of course I won't be going to New York to see it so I'll have to wait. Kudos to Mrs. Rashad for her win for Raisin BTW. And then it happened again TCM advertised The Romance of Rosy Ridge and I made plans to watch it and with 45 minutes to go my neighbor came over and said in a teary voiced"I'm getting a divorce" and of course that was the end of the movie watching. I did catch the end of Rosy Ridge but it was some time later. It was just at that point where one is about to learn about Leigh's brother-oh the humanity.

  7. I haven't seen Shakespere in Love but I have seen Paltrow in other roles and she's very convincing like in the movie Jefferson in Paris and for the life of me can't think of another title. However, I think Paltrow woudn't take on the role if she couldn't do it some justice. With her background in the entertainment industry, I mean her roots with her father and mother's background I don't think, I hope, that'ld she'd tackle it. And hopefully Blythe Danner would talk her out of it if it was ill-advised.

  8. That's true I'd want someone to shoot me if I spent 300.00 on bedclothes what I was meaning is these auctions they have today. People willing to bid so much money on a star's address book and their other personal belongings-like pieces of hair or eyelashes. What people are willing to buy amazes me. I'm cheap too once I was in Disney World in FL. and this lady in front of me at a snack stand was discussing buying water. We brought our own-lugged it everywhere-I was thinking lady if you want to buy bottle water for 2.00 I'll sell you a bottle of water. I didn't but I wanted to.

  9. I saw the new version of the Haunting my friend and I watched it on video. One day I was watching TCM it was Halloween time and I watched this movie the Haunting. It sounded very famaliar as I watched it and then I thought the other must be a remake boy did they mess it up. The up shot to this is it came on again and my friend saw it and she liked it better than the remake also. I felt with the remake they got to the end and didn't know how to end it and concotted a stupid, stupid ending. Also do you guys remember when Ted Turner had that weak moment and thought about colorizing movies like the Maltese Falcon which took advantage of black and white tell me did they end up colorizing it? I hope not.

  10. A saw a commercial for this movie which says it is a movie based on Cole Porter. I believe Kevin Kline will play Porter. I only saw the commercial once but I saw the costumes they look real pretty. Also some singers of today are in it like Alannis Morisette and I'm assuming she'll be singing a Porter song wonder how that will sound?

  11. Hey didn't you guys see the golf balls sailing of the tub in Ensign Pulver and one hit me in the head? I mean to correct myself Jack Nicholson in my last post not the golfer I'm always getting those 2 names mixed up. Back to IMDB I go.

  12. Can't believe I never noticed the logo coming off during commercials. I'm with ML I've never noticed the logo when I'm watching TCM being so entranced with the movie. I thought about posting to Haterlogo be one with the logo but thought better of it since there are some people who have certain pet peeves. Thank goodness TCM doesn't have commercials. Maybe like someone else posted they are leaving it there to keep bootleg copies of movies being made-what will people think of next.

  13. I'd like to post on a continuation of a story or movie like the movie Ensign Pulver which to me was a lousy movie if there ever was one. What were they thinking? I have a question-was this movie well received? I'm thinking it was not. It is painful to watch I couldn't get into it-to me it made mince meat out of the Pulver character and to me was an ill-advised project. I have seen Robert Walker, Burl Ives, and Walter Matthau in a lot better roles and movies. One time it was on primetime if you will and the only selling point that Robert could make for it to me was the spotting of a young Jack Nicholous and some others I can't remember right now.

  14. Just posted in the greatest insults thread and realized I remember another scene that I don't know counts as a insult it certainly is a reaction but to me it is a great scene. Oh, there are so many from one of my favorite movies Mr. Roberts-saw it with my parents on TV. The scene where Roberts is calling for the ship's doctor for the captain and he does this twice and then the next scene shows the doc coming like he has all the time in the world. I laughed and laughed esp. about the smoking and the non chalance of this being no big deal. I also have to get back to the insult thread thanks Slappy for jogging my memory.
