  1. > HI ....I believe the movie where the children were > orphaned was ALL MINE TO GIVE... Glenys Johns played > the mother, cant recall who played the Dad. An Irish > couple with a large family .Dad died after kissing > his son who was suffering from diptheria., after > going to see the boy who was in isolation with his > mother, so the other children would not catch it .The > boy survived, and the mother supported the children > by sewing.after the Dad died. The eldest boy worked > in a mill after leaving school early to help with > finances .. Eventually The Mum got ill , but before > she died , she makes the eldest son promise to find > homes for all the children. I think there was 7 > alltogether.. He does, but.goes on to work in the > mill.,ironically. no home for him..I recall Patty > McCormick who was in The Bad Seed playing one of the > daughters I think the fatrher was played by William Shatner if I have the right movie. I can remember one of the neighbors being jealous of the husband's thoughtfullness to make a device to get water or pump water to her and the oldest son making sure not to give any of the children to this lady. Also the father worked at the mill and the oldest boy went with him and then he went by himself at the end. Alan Hale Jr. played the mill manager?? and he and Shatner got into fiticuffs and because of that Shatner gains Hale's respect. A scene that especially sticks with me is the gift of yeast from a neighbor who tells the mother to take care of it and it will last for years. In this disposable society and when I throw something away or when I wish I could cook this crosses my mind from time to time. Also I have to admit that it was strange to see Shatner in this movie at first I thought hey that's William Shatner...and waited for the enterprise to show up.....just kidding..seriously sometimes it is hard to seperate acters roles from a more famous role.....
  2. I own A VHS copy of Pillowtalk thanks to my friend who gave it to me..thanks again...Rock Hudson and Doris Day are talking about families and the comment is made that people don't have big families anymore. Doris says maybe it is economics that people can't afford big families anymore. Rock says it is because of the late late show at night and then Dave Caraway in the morning. My ? is who is Dave Caraway? A New York personality or as my son guessed a morning show personality as the likes of Harry Smith or Regis? Thanks for the info.
  3. I love Objective Burma I sit on the edge of my seat whenever I watch it and other than the slanted history what a movie!
  4. Thank You so much for all the info everyone who chipped in with the info about The Godfather very illuminating. Yes, Jennifer Grant does look alot like her mother when she was younger. I should know I just recently watched Bob, Carol, Ted and Alice. Thanks for the pic.
  5. WOW Drum boogie indeed-did I mention I love that dress. It is so glittery I can't take my eyes off of it. Wonder if it was about of the MGM studio sell off in the 70s or this movie is probably not affiliated with mgm.
  6. Anyone know the fate of the costume wore by Barbara Stanwyk in ball of fire? The one she wore at the nightclub and of course to the foundation. What a beautiful dress I think whener I see it in all its glitter. Who designed it? and is it still around? Thank you for any info...btw boy do I wish I had a figure like Stanwyk did then she was and still is lovely to look at.....
  7. Howdy! mongo long time no see! I've missed you guys. I have a ? probably a silly one but one I've wondered about for awhile. Let me state that I have never seen The Godfather movies but I have seen parts of it and parodies of the scenes in the movie. That being said i was wondering about the scene involving the daughter's wedding where apparently if you ask for it it shall be done. Is this based on fact? Is this a tradition carried out when the higher mob bosses married off their children? Does the book explain why the people were granted favors? Thank You. I was also wondering about Cary Grant's daughter with Dyan Cannon what was her name and do you know anything about her? I mean how she is doing now. Was she born in the 1960s? Thanks again.
  8. > True. I've been meaning to see "Citizen Kane", "The > Maltese Falcon", the entirety of "Now, Voyager", the > films of The Marx Brothers...Of course, TCM runs > these all the time and I do work part-time, so I > should probably take the opportunity to sit down and > watch the network every so often. Caps-Now Voyager oh there is a movie to savor over and over again. I never get tired of seeing it. I watched it instead of the last American Idle final show although I had seen most of it by then. I didn't get to see all of it the first few times I've seen it like you. Like you also I've been not to the site in sooo long or watching TCM as much as I like to-I'd watch all the time if I could!
  9. My apologies I meant CinesageJr. who referred to me finding water.....my apologies to Fred
  10. Mongo were would I find your post announcing your retirement from the Happy Birthday forum I hunted and I can't find it. Just tell me the day and I'll find it. Thank You so much for your work on the Birthday forum I loved it. Plus you did and do a fantastic job! Give yourself a pat on the back. Like someone else posted I don't think anyone could have given such loving details as you a lesser person would have not been able to keep up the work. I also need to give out thank yous to you and Larry and vallo for the birthday wishes...bless your hearts I am so sorry I havent't acknowledged them sooner. I am ashamed to admit I didn't even know they were there till I was searching for what I mentioned above. Many thanks again for remembering me. Like I said before I pay the internet and frankly I have to make an appointment to get on....seriously the kids discovered Conquer and then they IM- boy they are computer literate and I am a dunce. Today the oldest went to his friend's house and the youngest has company and is playing video games so here I am. YIPPPY! I will miss the forum but so glad you will be sticking around I have some ?s for you in the Ask Mongo forum be seeing you...
  11. As for looking for my own info well I have to admit I never thought of this as a matter of fact like Fred said I sounded like someone who had been use to muddy water and discovered clear drinking water(when I said I never would have watch Scarface-the one with Al Pacino if it wasn't for the back info the scrolling at the bottom) but I liken my discovery to when I discovered TCM so many years ago. It made me happy. Like when I discovred Jack Benny and the older programs when I was a teenager. Like when I discovered old time rock-n-roll and how happy it made me. Like when I discoverd Judy Garland and how her movies and her music makes me happy. Did I sound like I found something wonderous I felt I had. I still do. I would love to see TCM copy AMC lead and scroll info at the bottom of the movie. I welcome more info behind the scenes before the movie like they already do after the movie, inbetween the movies...anywhere. I also felt happy when I discovered TCM.com I still feel it is a wonderous discovery though what I find happiness in also hurts at times.
  12. I reread my original post and I have to say what I posted and what you people inferred is amazing. I never mentioned commercials or pop-ups-never. I would be so disappointed if commercials aired on TCM. I do stand on my appeal to TCM to follow the lead of ACM of scrolling at the bottom stories about the movie if you don't agree then that is your right as well as it is mine to express my wishes. I totally agree with the poster who wrote on the 458 showing of Father Goose info about it would be refreshing. It just would to me and probably others who are out there. Aren't you fellas that watch silents( which I don't care for) already reading those scrolls or pop ups you disdain? Yes I know this is the only way these movies could be shown this is the way they were filmed but if you can do that then maybe you could be open to this idea. I am unashamed to admit I watch ACM I wish there were less commercials but they do show movies you don't see on TCM and some variety is welcomed by this viewer. I also do not wish to get rid of RO or BM. I talk back to Robert all the time when he says good evening I say it back to him and I delight in his presence I don't know what TCM would do without him. I also feel that the programmers at TCM would find us top-notch info to scroll on these films not trivial things and perhaps only insider things that they would or could get access to show. I will post my message now and continue ....
  13. bradtexasranger-Ted Turner bought most of the MGM catalogue...ain't he lucky? I have appealed to Ted since it is over with Jane that I was available to run barefoot through his movie collection. Unless it is differnet ol' Ted OWNS! the print for GWTW and lots others..he may even own the home movies I have shot on a camcorder I once rented a long time ago. As a matter of fact the kids were watching one and I think I owe Ted a commission or needed to get his permission to watch them on my TV. Can you imagine owning movie after movie WOW. Lucky Ted.
  14. I appreciated Dean's intelligence-his responses to questions, his ideas, the thoughts recorded that I have read showed he was more than a pretty face. I'll have to step out of the acting ? since I have only seen Rebel Without a Cause. I can't get through GIANT and this is before Dean even shows up on screen and I've only seen bits and pieces of East of Eden.
  15. Let's see shall I comment on the attack of my intelligence and another comment by another poster for the type of people who come up with these ideas (which I feel was not directed toward me)-not really, I think. I did see that I left out a letter here and there and I apologize. But not to you Sergei you can jump in a lake or better yet skip over my posts- and then it starts the bashing back and forth.....I normally don't like this but feel I shouldn't let this attack on my person pass. Everone else understood the post but not only do you have to disagree with me which is fine but you have to attack me personally? Let me be the first to tell you that these mistakes will happen again you know since I am human. I still stand by my first post. I also find it hard to believe I am the only one in the minority here. Plus, guys my DVDs of older movies have NO extras, no commentary and I was wondering if TCM could borrow this idea from ACM. I don't think TCM would tell about where the statistics you find trivial but boy what they could reveal. I for one would welcome it. I do think that if you don't want to watch then don't just like I don't watch the movies I don't want to see.
  16. Let's see I find it hard to believe that no on would be hungry for info about the movies they watch. I also find it hard to believe that the info that TCM presents before and after the movie is not repeatitive to you. No offese to Robert and his staff but the same old lead in info and after info is boring. Plus like I said wouldn't you like to know more info?? I would and that is why I thought woudn't it be cool if TCM did this... I could name a few movies that TCM can start off with since we've seen them already time and again on TCM anyway like GWTW, Coal Miner's Daughter, Shop Around the Corner, Rocky,Sunset Boulevard and any of the other repeats. Myself once I got use to it enjoyed the writing immensly. Also, as the saying goes you don't have to watch if you don't want to...and I also didn't suggest TCM turn into ACM just to borrow this idea. Plus since I am here and obviously a pariah for my suggestion I wish the TCM underground would come on a wee sooner than it does-it ain't bad and non-invasive just ont to darn late.
  17. I am probably the the last to know but I have a ? are you a texasranger or a texasranger baseball player? I have wondered since I saw your username...gwtwbooklover
  18. It's not invasive they show the movie first without the info and then repeat it with the details. I am sorry I left out that detail. They have also did this with one of the Back to the Future movies and Jaws which I would love to see but keep missing. So if TCM did it imagine what wealth of info they could share.
  19. > We give and I am unanimous in that. DITTO man this is the 1st one I have ever seen go to 21 questions.......put us out of our misery....,................
  20. > Sammy's career suffered after the picture of him > hugging Presidential Candidate Richard Nixon was > published in all major newspapers. Was this during his campaign against Kennedy or his 70s run for president? Probably a silly ? since I know Davis stumped for Kennedy but I'm curious. I enjoyed seeing Davis on All in the Family.
  21. Let's see I have watched to movies recently on AMC that I would never have watched if it wasn't for the extras AMC added to the movie. The info about the movie that is at the bottom of the movie while you watch it. Trust me I would never watch Scarface the one with Al Pacino but I watched and read completely fascinated with the backstory. Have you all seens these? I hate to admit it but I watched the Basic Instinct one and like I said I fouind the story about the movie so fascinting. Like I said I never would have watched it again-I saw it at the theater and was soooooo lost. These movies tell about the sets, actors, the writers...anything and everything. So after the Basic Instinct movie or during it I thought boy wouldn't it be wonderful if TCM did this?? So can you guys check into this TCMPROGRAMER?
  22. I like the Good Morning number from Singin in the Rain. I like the way Debbie Reynolds says Good Morning...and what a good morning it is.....good morning she says it in such a peculiar way atleast to these ears
