Well I can tell you that the new DVD isn't available on the Netflix site I looked last night when I saw in the Parade magazine that it was coming out....I would like to see it to. I just received and watched Madame X and all it has is the trailor oh if only they would ask John Forsythe or the kid who played the son both ages if they are both available to commentary or Cheryl Crane....surely Cheryl has a favorite of her mother's movies she could commentary on for us....lord I am selfish....but hopeful. The film print of Madame X was excellent the trailor was awful dark and just awful looking boy was I relieved when the film was clear.

  2. I went to the imbd and there on the page was breaking news Paul Newman 1925-2008 and it followed to every page I went on imdb.com. I bet TCM never thought of posting an online tribute to him or any star. They haven't in all the time I've posted here is it over due perhaps but not deliberate that there isn't one. However, the TCM remembers is always so beautiful and thoughtful and to put this together you think in a hurry? is just not so TCM always again as long as I can remember has had the TCM remembers respectfully playing after any actors or actresses death in a timely matter. The technology that was posted earlier is perhaps the reason for no online tribute at the TCM website or where we post. Remember the website belongs to us to communicate to those like us or to wander around the other places on TCM,com provided to us by TCM. Perhaps if we ask it will be provided, perhaps they have never thought of it, and perhaps(and I don't think Mr. Newman would mind) perhaps you guys who were asking TCM if they were hiring for the website could inquire again? I think Mr. Newman enjoyed one taking the bull by the horn. Just don't ask on this thread....

  3. oh when Tom Cruise was took under the wing of Paul Newman and the Dustin Hoffman I would like to tell oldschoolfan welcome to the site and I am honored to share the love of Paul Newman with you and all of TCM I have Rachel, Rachel on my list on netflix it's not available yet and A new kind of Love I believe that is it I'm ready to see these Newman movies I've never seen before and hope to read all the new(and old) incoming posts.....thanks again Mr. Newman for the memories.

  4. Bless your heart, yes, one has to post those thoughts as they come or they fly out the window. I have heard the duet of The Little Drummer Boy with Crosby and Bowie it is very beautiful. I didn't know there was another song- did they sing this on the TV program also? We are not able to youtube on our computer we have dial up slow dial up but that is life. I esp. liked the pairing of Loretta Lynn and Jack White or the white Stripes a few years ago. I've not seen any Will Roger films but what witticisms, recently while watching TCM Judy Garland was singing a song I'll venture was titled Old Friend and it was about Will Rogers have you seen it? It was a between the movies filler.

  5. What I mean is recently I was watching Your Cheating Heart with my friend and I said to her I wonder if this is on DVD and if so is there a special feature of George Hamilton talking about this film(and if not then get it done) but back to my question. I can't rent them all and believe me with this netflix account I have I give it quite the try. Which classic movies have special features that really enhance the viewing? For example A Face in the Crowd with it on DVD does Andy Griffith and Patricia Neal talk about the filming of this movie???? Please direct me to movies you have seen that have these wonderful features. I will share the ones I know of: Leave her to Heaven has the actor who played the little brother with the hurt foot speaking of the movie and a film critic it wasn't very enlightening to me but it might be to you, Bob, Carol, Ted and Alice which has all the major stars except Natalie Wood of course speaking about the movie, A Star Is Born Barbara gives commentary I enjoyed very much, and one I know has no special features The World of Suzie Wong which I hoped would since I thought Nancy Kwan was still alive. BTW does anyone knows how to see at the netflix site to see if these movies have special features is it there and I am not seeing it?

  6. I love Paul Newman's blue eyes and when he and Steve McQueen were in the Towering Inferno oh what a blue heaven I was in.....Thank You Mr. Newman for the fine work and for the work you have done to make the world a better place...my condolences to his daughters and Joanne

  7. I finally watched On the Waterfront yesterday I had seen it but not from first to last. It was a good movie. I was going to lay down for awhile when the documentary Brando was on but I couldn't turn off the TV. It was very interesting. He was multifaceted. Plus he was multifaced if you will. I would like to see The Missouri Breaks. I like amend that I love the movie Sayanora and I am so disappointed I missed the section of Brando if they talked about it on there. Bless his heart I agreed with him wholeheartedly when he was asked about Last Tango in Paris and he said I still don't know what that movie was about- Welcome to the club. I really like the scene from Guys and Dolls when he sings Luck be a Lady. Back to Sayanora I like how humbling he is and how he thinks he knows himself and learns he doesn't and he falls in love he falls to the japanese traditions. However, it took me awhile to understand his speech.

  8. Howdy Mongo!!!!! I hope all is well with you. My question is about Sammy Davis Jr. I just recently finished reading Why Me? and he describes his deal with Altovise they marry because he wants a wife that he can share his life and lifestyle with which was a bone of contention (of many) with May Britt. However, he tells Altovise he wants no more children and she relunctantly agrees. Anyway after reading the book I go to Sammy's website and read a Larry King interview and this intertwines interviews with Sammy and Altovise talking about Sammy after his death. Anyway Larry says and you 2 have a son and she says yes. Well did they adopt him or was he born to Altovise and Sammy? I can't remember his name. Please enlighten me. Plus what of the children he had with May..Tracy who was born to May and the 2 boys they adopted...

  9. Dudes Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein now that is hilarious dead bodies and all. The scenes of Costello reacting to the museum surroundings are priceless I die laughing all the time. Little Miss Sunshine Comes to mind also.

  10. Oh I have so much to be happy about my 2 children my boys aged 18 and 16 and the 18 year old will be leaving the nest and I am so proud of the young man he is turning out to be and my youngest is growing like a weed and his heart is like a sponge of love and happiness that he gives out freely. My parents are in good health and my 2 brothers and 1 sister are fine and my nephews are good also. But one a smaller happiness scale I am on the website which I think of often but alas there is so much more to do to call my attention....I am reading the last of the trilogy of books that I when I started didn't think I would since I didn't have the 3rd but luckily I found...my tomatoes plants are growing..thanks for letting me share

  12. Is mamma mia loosely based on the movie Buona Sera Mrs. Campbell? because when I first saw the TV spots for the movie I thought of Buona Sera of course I have no idea where Mamma Mia is supposed to take place what country but The 3 fathers arriving and the search for who just might be the father is similar plot lines between these two movies. Just saying....BTW our copy of The Devil Wears Prada from Netflix arrived and we loved it. Meryl Streep was fabulous. If you haven't seen it you'll love it just for her performance alone.

  13. When this movie showed on TCM a couple of months ago I was hooked. I stayed up horribly late that sunday on the edge of my bed. I loved it. I would love to see the restoration esp. for the Lang's even if they aren't here to see it - it being restored would balm the heartbreak I am sure they felt when it was butchered. I, also if TCM can get it, suggest they show it at an earlier time. Or even better yet until that happens show the version they got again...This movie has been copied, has inspired, has raised the bar for sci fi movies even to today. I saw scenes from Star Wars in it esp. the capital city of the Jedi Council with the flying airplanes just that in Star Wars it is space crafts. I told my son he has to watch it and I peaked his interest. Intending to check on Netflix if it is available.

  14. I just responded to the thread in Hot Topics on Cyd but I have to post here since we had a fine report reprinted by edonline from Bob Thomas. Thanks ed for the info. It has just sunk in that Cyd was from Texas and as it says the studio took her and worked her over new name, new voice, so much so that I am loathe to admit out loud but I will I for one thought Cyd was a European beauty. Boy that studio I bet if they got a hold of me they'ld make me into something my own Momma wouldn't recognize. All kidding aside I honestly thought she was an import to Hollywood an exotic foreign born beauty. Isn't that something?

  15. My Dad LOVED Cyd's legs he thought she had the sexiest legs in the world. He commented so when I was first introduced to Cyd during a Oscar telecast in the late 80s. She danced so well and showed she still had it. I can't believe she has gone RIP and thank you for the great work and memories. I don't know either if Robert had done a Private Screenings with Cyd or not but she talks on TCM from time to time about when she felt her leg go during a dancing number in a movie scene and what a trooper she finishes the number. Oh I can just see her flipping that coin.....and the vision in white with Gene oh that long flowing cape how beautiful...thanks again Cyd and my condolences to her family.

  16. Oh I remember that book they ran bits of it in Star magazine or The National Enquirer one of those anyway I remember the headline..The time I made Rock Hudson forget he was gay....of course the way I first heard of Mamie was when she was dubbed The poor man's Marilyn Monroe..I heard it on TV I believe....

  17. Well you guys are funning and I have a serious remake in mind. I can't remember if I have mentioned before that I think an all black casting of Born Yesterday would be a go to me. I can see this movie modernized and still just as charming as the original if handled correctly. However, Madonna in a remake of Casablanca! well that is just wrong. Madonna is well she stinky in movies except for the Seeking Susan movie she is box office poison IMHO. She is in it it flops. Except for her 1st one and the concert films she sucks. For god sakes don't do it Madonna you can't. Trust me. BTW LOVED the Harvey lines with Arnold how hilarious.

  18. Dudes you forgot the dudes....please tell me Van Johnson is still sexy and sizzling...oh I have a weakness for that man him in all his blondness, shirtless, with his style of speaking, his forehead before or after that big man.....I saw someone had mentioned Mickey Rooney but the other dudes are missing. Oh I've got to post what another had posted don't know who think it was Mongo but maybe not...anyway the poster let us in on a quip by Bob Hope calling Van Johnson a pumped up version of Mickey Rooney which probably wasn't considered funny by Van. Come on baby give.....

  19. Let's see I am having to get off the computer so I would like to make a comment or two. Hollywood..or stars...I am 38 years old and remember when one had one TV no remote and 3 channels. Oh we thought HBO would be manna from heaven and we were so so excited when we got it. We were poor and Christmas was tight always with the 6 of us anyway try or remember splitting the TV veiwing between 6 people one 1 TV set. My parents wishes always trumped the kiddies and then my brothers got heir wishes and then me and my sister. What I am getting at is Hollywood..stars...I am so glad that I saw eventhough they were much older then when I first "met" Dean Martin, Bob Hope Lucille Ball, Frank Sinatra, Jerry Lewis that I did see them thanks to my parents who revered them and didn't miss them. Like Johnny Carson and Johnny Cash and Rock Hudson so many of these people are gone now well must of them and I am so glad I was exposed to them. However with that being said Ava Gardner who said that they the stars were the only merchandise let out of the store at night. How sad. They LIED and the stars let the lies perpetuate or had no choice in the matter about where they came from who they grew up with. I for one couldn't stand for it. However no one pays to see me. I like things real. Not negative but real. De Palma the people you lament the majority of glamorpusses didn't dress themselves, went where they were told, spoke how the studios wanted them to speak and were unglamorous off the studio lot. I like realism in a person and applaud the iron clad hands of the studio that are missing and hey most of those stars do to..like they can eat now and go where they want and make a living without being heavy reprimanded. Anyway got to go.
