  1. Happy or Hoppy Easter to everyone in TCM land. Hope your day is wonderful and your baskets are filled to the brim. BTW remember me when you bite into your bunny when I went to Wal-mart last night ALL the chocolate bunnies were gone! I LOVED the little cartoons esp. the 2 bunnies where one says Happy Easter classic oh I loved so hard. So jealous of you guys who can do this.

  2. See this is where we differ I think Kris was okay I mean who else could she have gotten..that sounds mean but I can't think of anyone else. Anyway Kris is so wooden and that singing..Now In Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore he did fine in it he was still slightly wooden but better than it than ASIB in my opinion. Back to Elvis of course this role would have been hitting close to home to him perhaps to darn close. At that time Elvis' private life was still somewhat private though things were leaking out and he was flawed or doomed like Johnny which became obvious in hindsight. I remember reading that people were shocked to find out Elvis was on drugs and for how long and when I became an Elvis fan well it couldn't be true. Of course with age comes wisdom ain't it great! I just couldn't find the attraction other than physical for Esther to fall in love with or lament about losing. I cringe when Esther is in the studio recording and then Johnny chimes in singing with her how terrible and I have to say Kris doesn't look to happy to be doing it,. However, the surprise of this movie to me is Gary Busey I didn't know he was in it until he was on the TV screen. Gary did a bang up job here totally believable as the weary manager.

  3. Thanks guys for the info I really appreciate it. So jealous of you who have seen it. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof was recently near me as well as Chicago which is coming soon but money is tight. Hairspray sprayed its way in not to long ago. Anyway I appreciate the answers to my ? Cannot at this time see the video, we have slow internet will try to see it on a friend's computer. Thanks again.

  4. I rented this from Netflix and when I can I watch the special features and if it is tolerable I'll listen to the running commentary while the film is showing. Barbara does the honors and a fine job of the commentary. I don't know if any of you ever have done this listened to the voice over sometimes it is just silly and does not advance the movie, enrich the movie and takes away from the movie. However, she makes some comments that I disagree with like she was glad to get Kris for the lead man role though she pursued Elvis Presley first. Apart from the fact that simply Elvis didn't star in it for whatever reason it is to me a pity. I would have loved to seen Elvis in this role. I couldn't buy Kris in this role. Now I know the world knows Kris isn't a singer but he ain't and this distracted me. Therefore I saw no talent to lament of or attract Esther to in Johnny. It isn't there.....I think if and if is a big word here if Elvis had starred in this it would have been a fine movie or a different movie. Oh to have seen Elvis spread his wings in this part if it had been allowed and him brave enough to say Yes to the part all things be damned I think... well it is a PITY- what he could have done with this part. I became tickled when Barbara came to credits and wondered what all the hub bub was about crediting her clothes or her wardrobe to Miss Streisand's closet. Now here I go would love to see the much discussed turn of affairs where the women is the failing star and the man is the rising. Plus, perhaps an all star black cast in a remake.

  5. I love The Wizard of Oz I came upon it, to love it, slowly but surely. I hated it thought it was boring esp. with the talking trees and flying monkeys I was a child then. I finally watched it and I cry every time it ends. It is one of the movies I would take to a desert island with me. Some of the best lines in any movie are spoken in this movie. CelluloidKid thanks for the photos of Judy and the pic of the poster. Wizard of Oz one of movies sweet wonders.

  6. I have got to see this movie from beginning to end. Wasn't Claudette in Cry Havoc or am I wrong will imdb in a second that movie had me biting my nails and this one did also. Funny I thought about her hair also sooo perfect. Sort of like Nicole Kidman all perfect and fresh as a daisy during Cold Mountain.... Okay here I go- I can't picture Claudette playing Margo Channing. Boy did Claudette have amazing face structure those beautiful cheeks.

  7. Please excuse the intrusion since I am from Arkansas I have to put in Steel Magnolias which was filmed in Arkansas. Lord Georgia I am hard pressed to come up with a movie filmed do they have to be filmed there? or based there? Designing Women was based in Georgia....but that is a TV show. Oh oh I have one for Florida an Elvis Presley movie filmed in parts of Florida dern the name thank you imdb Follow that Dream. Looking at my DVDs didn't Diner take place in Delaware?? Seems it did to me.

  9. lzcutter I waited with baited breath to see this film and was not disappointed. I loved it. I agree would have loved to seen more of Ritter. I made a special point to see this film. I loved Bette's hair. The script was so intelligently written. I loved it so much more than A Star is Born though coming about a discovery at different angles I feel this movie so deserves the hoopla A Star is Born receives. A Star is Born is so sappy both versions. I never wanted this to end and I held on to the edge of my seat. Thanks if I could send out my special thank you to TCM and to you lzcutter for the thread.

  10. Thanks everyone for the info-So it is Lyle Lovett singing it well I knew it couldn't be Darin's voice. Just wondering does Darin's son sing? I am a little familiar with Lovett I wish I could hear a song of his he sang with the paraphrased lines as follows...God may forgive you and that's the difference between him and me......

  11. At the end of Quiz Show the credits roll and Mack the knife is playing a slower version than the one that was put out by Bobby Darin that went on the Billboard chats. So I wonder who is singing this version and it lists that Darin is singing Mack the Knife and I don't think so....am I mistaken?

  12. Sandy Casablanca is an excellent film to watch with a dude. I want to ask you about that film also so watch it. Of course I watch it whenever I can and well after seeing it so many times I began to wonder a couple of things.. Now Voyager is an excellent movie you will LOVE it. I haven't seen A Splendor in the Grass or Splendor in the Grass anyway with Wood and Beaty, Shampoo, and Bonnie and Clyde, Giant, East of Eden, Deer Hunter, Patton and tons more.
