I was watching this movie late one Sunday night....It was a foreign film, in black and white, with sub-titles. In the beginning of the movie this older man pays this young girl's family money so that he can take her away as his "helper" to perform these side shows in different towns. At some point early in the movie, the young girl gets fed up with the man because she senses that he has been with other women. She runs away but he finds her. They get involved for a brief time with this traveling circus show....and it was at this point that I fell asleep!!! I never got to see how it ended. I remember the young girl was rather funny looking and there was one scene where a circus performer told her she looked like an artichoke.....Does anyone have any idea what the name of this movie is?
