Well, more power to them.

Anyway, to get back to the subject of this thread, here is another delightful vintage still from Yankee Clipper.

Turner Classic Movies is my favorite channel on TV!!

It's good. Mr. Shepard actually sent me a copy of that as a gift after he won one of my film contests. -
All those lovely freckles. Reminds me of Wesley Barry. Neither Jr. nor Wesley would probably be cast in films today, with all those freckles. They only seem to want kids with flawless clear skin in today's Hollywood.

Yeah, but 9.5 prints? Sounds like they would look pretty much like some of Grapevine's old quality.

I guess most filmgoers who love it are too busy noticing its "artistry" and avoiding noticing the nasty plot. LOL!!! -
*Yankee Clipper* is ok, storywise, but it's pretty much standard fare for the time. I still prefer *The Volga Boatman* by Cecil B. DeMille, which is a very intense romance and has the benefit of having gorgeous Victor Varconi in it. Sigh. What will be great about this release is to listen to the interview of silent child star (still alive) Frank Coghlan Jr. who was in the film with William and Elinor. I'd love to hear his memories of working with the two stars.

The print I have for Pandora's Box is from a rare broadcast of The Independent Film Channel about two years ago. It's a lustrous print. But even a great print can't warm you to a picture where you really don't care about the characters. -

This is the third time they've shown Faces of Children. Lovely silent, not to be missed. -

Showing it at a different frame rate could account for a time difference. Have you ever had any real confirmation that there are scenes missing? -
That's great they make the effort. Let us know what the film is about when you see it; if it's any good.

Me too. She has an effervescent glow about her. I am glad TCM is trying to make an effort to broadcast some more Nancy Carroll films. I'll be glad to get a decent copy of *Broken Lullaby*. My previous print was less than stellar. I wish they'd play her hybrid film *The Shopworn Angel* (1928) with Gary Cooper and Paul Lukas. My print for that is only so-so. I'd love a better one! Her performance in that film was even better than Margaret Sullavan's in the later talkie. She brought more sensitivity to the role. I think my favorite sentimental Nancy Carroll film however is the talkie she made with John Boles, *Child of Manhattan* (1933). It has a kind of ludicrous ending but the first half is bittersweet. My favorite scene is when they are at the piano and he's telling her he loves her. The piano roll playing is Victor Young's gorgeous song "Beautiful Love", one of the prettiest melodies ever written, and it adds so much to that scene. TCM has been playing that one occasionally already.
