  1. I think you folks are correct; it is difficult to get people interested in classic movies. For some reason it seems like they just can't handle black and white as opposed to color. More than once I have had people say they simply can't watch a movie because its B&W. I don't get it but that is what they say. I have managed to convert a few people over tho. I will ask them who their favorite film star is, and then suggest a movie starring the person they like. Like a friend who just loved Cary Grant. I suggested he watch Arsenic and Old Lace and he thought it was great! Then I suggested one or two more and now he is a big fan. Sometimes people need a little puch in the right direction.

  2. Yes, Happy Birthday to Pete and ML! Hope you had a great day! And how lucky to share your special day with Ann Rutherford and Alice Brady. Ann would be a great interview with Robert Osborne. Alice Brady was one of the funniest ladies on screen. She played the dizzy dame like no one else. Her scene at the scavenger hunt with the goat never fails to make me LOL. Again, Happy Birthday and many more!

  3. My choice is the almost always overlooked Howard Hawks. His career went from the silents-Road to Glory and The Cradle Snatchers- to the 30's and 40's - Dawn Patrol, Scarface, Twentieth Century, Barbary Coast, Ceiling Zero, Come and Get It, To Have and Have Not, The Big Sleep, and Red River - thru the 50's - The Big Sky, Monkey Business, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Rio Bravo- and onto the 60's -Hatari, Man's Favorite Sport and El Dorado - ending with Rio Lobo on 1970. But I am always amazed at the range of films he made he made from 1938 through 1941 - Bringing Up Baby (1938), Only Angels Have Wings (1939), His Girl Friday (1940), Sergeant York (1941), And Ball of Fire (1941). The movies he made throughout his career show a range and ability that truly makes him one of the greats.

  4. The character he played was Carlo, the protege, but I think cindbm means a gorilla, where he messes up his hair and walks around and jumps on the furniture. Remember he is supposed to be cheering up Irene but his heart wasn't in it.

  5. Yes, lux0786, thank you for clarifying your position. I agree that lately it seems as if some movies have been shown over and over again (for example, Rear Window and Singin' in the Rain). As they are both part of the Essentials, I am starting to question why TE are being shown on both Saturday nights at 8:00 P.M. (EST) and on Sunday afternoon at 6:00 P.M. (EST). Like many people I work during the week and my primary TCM viewing time is on the weekends. So it is a bit redundant to see the same movie on both Sat & Sun. While I support TCM wholeheartedly, there are some programming decisions I do question.
