Absolutely! A company that specializes strictly in classic black & white films. They can be either silent or with sound. I believe that both can be used effectively. But when I refer to sound I don't mean it in the obnoxious sense of how sound is used today. But rather, sound in the way it was used in the early 30's (sparingly!).
I wouldn't just limit the silent films to comedy though. I would like to include dramatic films as well like in the style of "M", "THE CROWD", "THE UNKNOWN", "SHADOWS", and also some of the better horror/sci-fi films like in the style of "NOSTERATU", "THE CABINET OF DR.CALIGARI", "METROPOLIS", "PHANTOM OF THE OPERA", etc.
I'd also like to do some gangster type of films like in the style of "LITTLE CAESAR", "PUBLIC ENEMY", "SMART MONEY", etc. (can't help it, I'm a big sucker for early Cagney & Edward G.)
In the comedy dept. I'd do ANYTHING in the style of Harold Lloyd, Keaton, Chaplin, early Laurel & Hardy, early Little Rascals. Heck, I even like Joe E. Brown! (Elmer The Great!)
Boy,I can go on and on! The key to such a company would be to keep the stories relatively simple (like in the early days) and rely heavily on character acting, makeup, and moody/nostalgic cinematography (with plenty of dramatic lighting) bathed in glorious black & white.
Money wouldn't be my biggest issue. That will come in time. For me, my first priority would be to find a dedicated & reliable staff of executive personnel to form the core of the company. From there, with everyone united passionately toward our goal, ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.
LETS KEEP THOSE VOTES COMING!
