Although I haven't seen nothing but the mainstream Hitchcock, I think this clip in particular references some of the earliest concepts marked by the Hitchcock-Truffaut book: the use of Kuleshov effect. Of course it contains some of the elements the man used in his 50-year career, I think we can se a rudimentary use of those techniques, in part limited by the technology in that time.
