  1. Decades ago, the networks showed Paramount's Henry Aldrich series quite frequently. Jimmie Lydon, a popular child star of the 30's and 40's (Life with Father),as Henry Aldrich, was my favorite teenager. These films of small-town life in America during the war years are precious. They provided me with a picture of how my parents lived during that time, the way they dressed, the music they danced to, the way they talked ("Golly Moses"). "Henry and Dizzy", "Henry Aldrich for President", "Henry Aldrich Swings It", Henry Aldrich's Little Secret", and "Henry Aldrich Haunts a House" are my favorites. Now those films have disappeared, maybe forever.
  2. I have just about given up any hope that any cable or network channel will broadcast the 1945 Republic firm "The Cheaters". Christmas is a few months away, but this movie is timeless, told with humor and warmth - and that cast: Joseph Schildkraut (The Shop Around the Corner), Eugene Pallette (Adv.of Robin Hood), and the always delightful Billie Burke (Wizard of Oz). Am I the only one who remembers this hidden gem from my childhood?
