  1. (*-will always indicate ACADEMY-(A.M.P.A.S.)-AWARD win/victory) I am posting this-(very first new topic with new handle-(P.S. to my pals, where ever you are. Please let me know how to just alter "Screen Name?" For those whom wonder what in the...it means Spencer Golden Age Maniac!-(it was too-long though. TCM editing team as well, let me know how to only change it?) I was just curious & on 1st note, a bit "STUNNED!?" Has either: *Audrey Hepburn-(AFI's #3 female) & or *Bing Crosby-(Box-0ffice Champ for a record 5yrs. consecutively!)-(Though I am not a fan) I know *Bing was not on either "Summer Under the Stars" However, & this was even more surprising-(considering her popularity) *A. Hepburn was also ignored both years???-(but we had: Esther Williams???) & *Audrey has been a "Star of the Mo." But *Crosby has not? It was just a bit bizarro & particularly with *Audrey-(after "AFI's 100yrs...100 Stars" '99) EVERYONE KNOWS ON HERE *Elmer Bernstein is gone & I wasn't able to say anything-(not that my view/input matters) But TCM is having another: "Young Film Composer's Comp"-(as most know *Elmer was a huge part of it) Man, man, 0, man what is is with the Summer?
  2. To me great friend classicsfan1119, I see what you mean??? However, I scrolled-down & saw the pivotal words GARBO! She's an acquired taste for many of course-(I AM CERTAINLY AMONG THAT GROPUING THAT TRULY RANK THIS WOMAN AS "THE GREATEST MOTION PICTURE ACTRESS I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!" Even OSCAR winning champion: *Katharine Hepburn-(1907-2003) said the same-(when she wasn't only praising *"The Great: Spencer Tracy"-(1900-67) I also believe it had to do with a couple things in regard to Garbo. She only made B & W pix. She quit early-(P.S. although she did attempt a late '40's comeback. I even have the footage of her lil' botched "Screen-Test!" However, it was in technicolor & her major worry, was her eyes showing age-(some of the reason for the ever present sunglasses later in life) Plus, she wanted to go the flea-markets,etc without fans bothering her-(most knew whom she was out in NYC's public, but gave her respect & left her alone) She woulda' & did ignore autograph seekers anyway. *Jimmy Stewart-(1908-97) was stunned by Garbo too! He even worked it into one of his J. Carson visit poems-his first encounter with her) & of all individuals Adolph Hitler was virtually in love with her. & nagged her to visit him in Berlin. NO CIGAR! Speaking of *Tracy & *Hepburn, she was among the few guests that would visit them-(not much, but once in awhile) "THE CAMERA WAS ALSO LITERALLY IN LOVE WITH THE FACE"-(her nickname) & *B. Wilder-(1906-2003) while trying to direct Marilyn in "Some Like It Hot"-(he had an easier experience with her 4yrs. earlier.) Said> "MM, had the most on-screen voltage in her face, since Garbo!" ANYWAY, you have my vote: Spencer Shanon
  3. This is my debut-(with new handle, etc & on that matter. I did have to totally re-register. However, how do I only ALTER this USER HANDLE???-(to sagebrush, classicsfan & bansi, please let me know!?) On "Ice Station Zebra" not exactly a heavyweight Are you speaking of it being Howard Hughes-(1905-760 favorite film? It was supposed to be. But we must remember that at that period-1968,69) Hughes, was not exactly clear in his mind-(that final plane crash directly into Beverly Hills >(July 7,1946 Hughes landed his Army experimental plane into>North Linden Drive! Was the final stroke. He still functioned, but he later went into a screening at what was still his studio-(RKO Radio)>later he gave up & sold it to Lucy & Desi!) But he went into a screening rm-(I was on RKO side of Paramount lot)>(they shared same lot & typically of Hollywood these days, only item left to remind film fans that: "Kane"/ "King Kong"/ "Bringing Up Baby"/Astaire & *Rogers flix & many other classics were actually shot on it's property. Is the famous RKO globe on corner of Melrose & Gower!-(on Paramount tour they pretend ony Par. owned the entire lot?) I went into a lil' & very musty screening rm Showing Paramount's history & it may have been same room that Hughes went into & stayed! It was like a couple of months, literally!-(he'd only send out for bizarre foods, etc) by the time he came out, his clothes were virtually rags,etc-(I know you true-blue cinephiles don't review many new flix, but watch for Scorsese's upcoming epic bio "The Aviator" Based on of course: H. Hughes! Thanks
