An incredible performance in an incredible show. I remember going to see the movie, and wishing that Pleshette was in it. Of course, Anne Bancroft is superb, so there was nothing to fear. The first professional musical I saw, was the London production of *My Fair Lady*, with Julie Andrews and Alec Clunes. Between that show and The Miracle Worker, they pretty much ruined everything else I ever saw, on stage. Almost nothing could live up to those two. I'm thrilled that I saw them, though. Two live events!

Thanks for Suzanne! Not only was she incredible to look at, she could really act. The very first non-musical show I saw on Broadway, was with her, and she was just mesmerizing in it.

The above statement is completely false. A reason why you shouldn't trust anything you read on Wiki. The scene played in theaters, exactly as it currently exists on DVD.

Perhaps, but is Tilda Swinton the "right leading lady"? I'm not so sure that *Auntie Mame* can succeed as an updated work. The character was something different, in the time it was created. Today, everybody is Auntie Mame. Without her class, of course.

I can think of only two films that I feel are superior to the novels on which they are based. *Carrie* and *Jaws*.

No thanks to Keira, but YES, to Anne Hathaway (who's mother I worked with about 40 years ago!) I'll take anybody in it, as long as they remake it.

In 1996, the project was given the green light with Julie Andrews (Herman's personal choice), as Mame. Rob Marshall was to direct. Then she underwent throat surgery, and the project was cancelled. Over the years, Midler (horribly wrong) and Cher (could work with the right director) were attached. Then there was talk of Michele Lee producing and starring in it (perfection!). Nothing happened. At one point, Streisand was named as producer and Cher as Mame. To date, there have been no takers, for any of these ladies.
Tilda Swinton isn't proposing to remake *Mame*, but *Auntie Mame.*

I don't count *What Price Hollywood*, as it's not called *A Star is Born*. But, I like it better than the 2 latter versions of ASIB.

The problem with the ill-fated revival, was the fact that they tried to do it as a scaled-back, cheap production. Nobody was interested. The original production of the musical, remains one of the top 5 best shows, I've ever seen.

I'm not anti-remake. My favorite film of the entire 1990s, is *The Mummy*. In fact, there are many films I would love to see remade. *My Fair Lady* tops my list. The list above, is still a matter of opinion. While I'll give you *The Wizard of Oz* and, just barely, *The Maltese Falcon* (which wins for style over substance), I detest both the 1954 and 1976 versions of *A Star is Born*. The original required no remake, imo. I'm all for a remake, if I find the original film, inferior. Either in talent, or in use of the medium. But, it's a matter of personal taste and opinion.

Well, I'll pass. And I most certainly will pass on the Suspiria remake, as well. It's not a great film, but it is unique. Since what makes it unique is impossible to recapture, a remake is utterly pointless.

I have difficulty trying to conjure up anyone who I would find more ill-suited to the role of Auntie Mame, than Tilda Swinton. Who do you get for Gooch, a former circus freak? Can you imagine how humorless it would be? Dear lord! It takes someone with an incredible amount of arrogance to believe they have something to bring to a role that has already been played to peerless perfection.

Just for the record, The Cinerama Dome in LA, is probably the worst venue for viewing (and listening) to Cinerama. Given the deplorable lack of venues, I suppose it's better than nothing, but not much better

Then I am sure that because you have cultivated a nice, warm relationship with the new moderators, your desire wold then to be to get these posters eliminated from the boards.
Not a bad strategy Holly. Or should I say Film_Fatale.....or Cinemascope.....or who the heck cares.
I'm sort of looking forward to coming back as some cutesy, contrived name. I think I'll be someone suffering gender identity issues, with oppositional defiant disorder (ODD). That might be fun. How about DefiantlyConfusedAtTiffanys?

Then consider yourself extremely lucky. But please don't, for a single moment, pretend you have the solution to this problem. Your post, although meant in the best possible way, is rather insulting to those of us who have tried what you have suggested, and more, over years. Your post implies that we haven't. And that if we just ignore this person, everything is fine. You can't even begin to imagine the thread destruction that cannot be "ignored", that this individual has caused. They have been banned, more than once, for their controlling and destructive behavior. It is insulting to those of us who have had to endure this repugnant creature, that they have been allowed to return, and dominate these boards. And worse, be protected by the Admins, as if they were some sort of victim! They should all be ashamed of themselves!

To TCMWebAdmin,
I am very sorry to see the turn that this thread has taken, in regards to personal attacks and harassing posts. I would not have imagined anyone would react that way, and it surely was not my intention to cause such a reaction. In addition to removing posts that might violate the Code of Conduct, please feel free to lock the thread if you deem it necessary, or to pull it altogether.
Really? "(You) would not have imagined"??? That proves you don't have Asperger's, because they are very astute to cause and effect. All of your nonsense has elicited this exact same reaction. When you were banned as Cinemascope, and when you were banned as Film Fatale, and when you created all those other usernames, the reaction has always been the same. In fact, the very reason you posted it as a thread and not as a PM, was to get this exact reaction. You've confused having Asperger's with being a liar. They're not the same thing. Of course, since you don't have Asperger's you wouldn't know that.

Here's one of many similar threads, when it was Cinemascope, and the cross it was bearing was lesbianism, and the life-altering trauma of being called a b*tch and a wh*re.

> There have been a few times when I have felt I have been targeted for ridicule or mockery in these forums, although sometimes expressed in cleverly concealed ways, or simply indirectly. Sadly, this is not a new experience for me. I am afflicted with a mild form of Asperger's Syndrome, and ever since I can remember, this has led to some people mocking me, ridiculing me, or trying to make me the butt of their jokes, sometimes with great cruelty. Never mind that adults with Asperger's almost always are highly intelligent and perfectly able to function in every day situations. Sometimes there are mean people who like to poke fun at those they perceive as acting even slightly differently from what they consider normal. Though not nearly as disabling as other conditions in the autism spectrum, some of which have been portrayed in contemporary movies, this condition is nonetheless a real disability, in the same way as any other disability that would be covered, for example, by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
>
> It is sad that some people choose to make mean-spirited remarks or otherwise target people with disabilities. And I am sure that just by coming out about it, there will no doubt be a few "clever" comments here designed to poke fun either at me personally or at anybody who might suffer from a similar disability. Sadly, people who don't suffer from any disability are sometimes very cruel and insensitive towards the rest of us. But, luckily, the vast majority of Americans are not like that. They are tolerant and open-minded and not likely to be swayed by any kind of prejudice, or by nasty rumors or idle gossip that is designed to turn people against those who have disabilities.
>
> The truth of the matter is that these kinds of insensitive remarks and attitudes that sometimes rear their ugly head are not nearly as dangerous as those that involve physical attacks in real life. There have been times when I have had to plea for help from the police and even the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which investigates civil rights complaints, in order to prevent further abuse and to seek the prosecution of those who assaulted me or sought to violate my civil rights.

Where's the educational information about Asperger's in the above post?

I don't know the exact number of people worldwide who may suffer from this and related conditions, but if there is anything someone can do to try to educate others a little about it, perhaps it is worth the effort.
So what, exactly, about your post, educates others about Asperger's?

So, why is this a thread?

Please don't make this about you. This is about the poor, put upon, saintly HollyGoFilmFatleCinemascopeGildaHayworthFordyGuns.
Does anyone else remember when Cinemascope had that conversation with GildaHayworth about Rita Hayworth. Priceless. Thanks, TCMAdmin, for that!

Believe me, as someone who has both lived with, and dedicated the last 30 years to working with people with disabilities (along with my wife and 2 of my sons), with emphasis on the Autism Spectrum, I can assure you that someone with a mild case of Asperger's is a dime a dozen, and requires no sympathy or special consideration from anyone here. I guarantee you, there are a number of people who post here who are on the spectrum.
The question isn't why it came forward with this information now, the question is why it didn't just send a PM to TCMWebAdmin? Why is this a thread?

I remember when you were Cinemascope and a lesbian.

Catherine Zeta Jones is easily the most beautiful women in films, today. I don't get the obsession with blondes.
