  1. JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH has a sequence in Atlantis. One of my favorite books is called "They Found Atlantis", unfortunately, they never made it into a film. Too bad, because it is written is such a cinematic way. You can picture a movie, the entire time you're reading it.
  2. The Courship of Eddie's Father, Dear Heart, Fate Is The Hunter, Experiment In Terror, A Pocketful of Miracles, Ransom!
  3. One other thing, Sue, I think that Cinemascope is sick. She stalks me and posts a response, no matter how inane, to every single post I make. She's a sorry little psycho-troll and an attention ****. You may or may not agree with me on that.
  4. I met Tom Tryon once. Very briefly, back in the mid-70s, at the NY apartment of a dancer/choreographer acquaintance of mine, and friend of my wife's. I told him how much I liked THE CARDINAL, and he grimaced. I was not in his company long enough to pursue the look; but, I later found out he hated every second of his experience on that film, and despised Otto Preminger. A fact, I believe, that is fairly well-known these days.
  5. Right. I was referring to how I felt, not how she felt.
  6. So, I'm the only one who admires THE CARDINAL, huh?
  7. Even though he would seem to be miscast, and the film is void of location settings, I still really like BLACK HAND. It does nothing to romanticize the mob, like so many films (i.e., THE GODFATHER) have done, and presents the story, with stark, engrossing realism. I would rank it as his most underrated film. Gene is very good in his role and, along with FOR ME AND MY GAL, it is a favorite of mine.
  8. I too agree that she is great, and wish she had a more fruitful career. Although, her career isn't bad, at all.
  9. I think who is the better dancer, is like comparing apples and oranges. Both were superb dancers. Although, I would rather watch a number with Astaire, than Kelly; and, both were far too gimmicky for my taste. Neither is my favorite dancer on film.
  10. I've always had the sense that it was fall, as well; but, there is no season indicated in the film, at any time. It is Friday, when it begins; but it is definitely not Labor Day Weekend, as the children are all in school, on Monday (which would have been the actual holiday).
  11. There is a television film from the late 70s, called CHILD OF GLASS, from Disney, that sounds like what you describe except, of course, for it being a film from the 1940s or '50s. It is excellent, and I'd love to see it, again.

  13. My favorites that have a war as part of their plot, in no particular order: Tora! Tora! Tora! Away All Boats The Great Escape The Americanization of Emily Zulu The Fighting Sullivans The Search Battle of Britain El Cid Gone With The Wind

  15. That would be THE MONSTER THAT CHALLENGED THE WORLD. I'm not sending an email, so I hope you come back and check your thread.
  16. I would agree with many of those listed here. I would add THAT HAGEN GIRL and ROPE to the list.
  17. I always felt that from the perspective of pure ability, nobody touches her.
  18. -Doris Day's "Que Sera, Sera" in "The Man Who Knew Too Much". Not a dance number. If we change the thread to favorite numbers from film musicals, my choices would most likely be quite different. Do you like any other Doris Day numbers?
  19. And Kathering Hepbum was nixed for Scarlett Nor, for the same reason, was Paulette Goddard offered up the plum of Scarlett... Thank God!!!
  20. Strictly from a process perspective, of all the 3D films I've ever seen (I would say I've seen most of the more famous ones, including the softcore film THE STEWARDESSES, which is the most finacially successful 3D of all ), I would rank DIAL M FOR MURDER as the best, then HOUSE OF WAX , FRIDAY THE 13TH, PART 3, and KISS ME KATE, in that order. In fact, the only time I ever enjoyed KISS ME KATE, was when I saw it in 3D! ROBOT MONSTER and JAWS 3D are, easily, the worst.
