  1. Not such a tremendous fan of Kaye's, although, I did like his television show. Of his films, I really like him in WHITE CHRISTMAS and HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN. I just don't tend to like frenetic comedians. The more "normal" he is, the more I like him.
  2. I see your point, and I don't disagree. Of course, if filmed as written, then I would have preferred to see Marilyn Monroe as Holly.
  3. I wasn't sure where to post this, so I apologize for a new thread: To my knowledge, this person is the only individual to have a Number 1 single on the American Top 40 record charts, who portrayed another real-life person in a film, who also had a Number 1 single on the American Top 40 record charts. So, to break this down: Person A has Number 1 hit on American Top 40 Record Charts Person B has Number 1 hit on American Top 40 Record Charts Person A portrays Person B in film. Who is Person A? What is Person A's hit record? Who is Person B? What is Person B's hit record?
  4. Audrey Hepburn is lovely in everythng she's in. Sometimes, as in the case of MY FAIR LADY, lovely isn't enough. BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S, is the definitive Audrey Hepburn role, however. As for comparing movies and books, it's a waste of time. Movies should stand on their own, without comparison. I guarantee you if they remake BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S, and keep to the story and characterizations, as Capote had written them, it will not be anywhere near as popular as the classic that Blake Edward's made. More than Hepburn or anyone elses presence in the film, it is Henry Mancini's score that cements BAT'S enduring appeal, imo.
  5. I can't imagine anyone thinking Debbie Reynolds being miscast in SITR! I wouldn't recast it, with anyone.
  6. So many great dance numbers in musical films. You might like it because of the dancers, or the choreography, or both! What are you ten favorite musical numbers, involving dancing? For me, in no particular order: 1. He's My Friend - THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN 2. Dancing - HELLO, DOLLY! 3. Begin the Beguine - BROADWAY MELODY OF 1940 4. Abraham - WHITE CHRISTMAS 5. A Lot of Livin' To Do - BYE BYE BIRDIE 6. Not Since Ninevah - KISMET 7. Prologue - WEST SIDE STORY 8. Marion - THE MUSIC MAN 9. Chop Suey - FLOWER DRUM SONG 10. Barn Raising - 7 BRIDES FOR 7 BROTHERS

    Porgy & Bess

The Gershwin Estate has every reason to hate the film. It stinks!
  8. Well, you don't have to explain musicals to me. I spent the years between ages 9 and 31, as a professional stage actor, mostly, in musicals. I just hate that number. I think it detracts from the film (it's very much a Kelly ego-piece); and, I skip right over it, whenever I'm in the mood to watch the film.
  9. I sort of agree with you. Also, I think they should have "guest hosts", from the everyday viewers, not celebrities.
  10. I have this awful feeling that this comeback Broadway star may very well be a figment of daneldorado's imagination! :-)
  11. Well, I know that Kitty Carlisle doesn't fit, because of the TV involvement; but I keep thinking it's her, so I'll post this, and get it out of my system!
  12. I particularly like Vilmos Zsigmond, Ernie Haller and Ted McCord, among others.
  13. I didn't watch, or set my Tivo (stupd me); but, which version did they show? I'm only interested in the complete version.
  14. I'm new here, so I don't know how you run your trivia games; but, are we going to get anymore hints? I'm completely frustrated by this question. Mostly, because I've been an avid theater-goer, since 1959. My guess is I may have actually seen this person. Can we get a timeframe of this person's stage stardom, either pre or post Hollywood?
  15. You just reminded me of what I disliked the most about the film. Its soundtrack. I hate films that use pop tunes as their soundtrack, in favor of orchestral scores (which is my favorite style of music). SPTO, do tell.
  16. I'm not such a tremendous fan of Sci-Fi; but, THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, is one of my favorite films, of any genre.
  17. Well, I appreciate the responses, and your opinions; but, I'd cut it, in a second!
  18. I don't like REBECCA. My dislike of the film is not limited to Joan Fontaine; but, I've never liked her in anything, ever. She may very well be superb in the role. I cannot be objective, I just don't like her screen presence, or lack thereof.
  19. As someone of the 60s generation, I preferred Gladys Knight and The Pips version of "Grapevine" better.
  20. Hard to say. I saw it when it was originally in theaters, and hated every single character in it. Now, that was a long time ago, and I've seen films that I'm sure are far worse, since; but, I'm not sure I would go as far a liking it, if I ever saw it again.
  21. Just goes to prove you can't trust GOOGLE! It may very well be the song they are dancing to; but it is not from that film, it is from GOING MY WAY, and won the Oscar for Best Song of 1944.
  22. Oh, but to me, there is an enormous difference between LM's over-exhuberant, know-it-all demeanor, and RO's genial, knowledgeable host. But, that's my perception. I would actually stop watching TCM movie intros, if LM were hosting them.
  23. "Swinging on a Star" is from GOING MY WAY. It did win Best Song Oscar, though.
