I knew it was something like that. I thought I had mixed up one of the titles. Thanks. -

THE BIG HOUSE MONTE CARLO THE BIG TRAIL LOVE IN THE ROUGH FOLLOW THRU RAIN OR SHINE LADIES OF LEISURE Are all good 1930 releases. -
I believe that TCMPROGRAMMER posted ahile back that it indeed does exist in a foreign archive, and that they were in negotiations with said archive to get a copy of the film. How long that may take is anyone's guess, as that sometimes can be tricky. My hope is that they are able to get a copy of this film soon so that we all can enjoy it as it was originally meant to be seen.

I don't believe that anyone is still arguing about the cuts made to the aforementioned films. What is in dispute is wheter or not TCM made the cuts or were they given prints that were already altered. When lzcutter asked you who at TCM had you asked that told you that TCM indeed made the edits, you never answered the question, instead remarked about the 2004 airing of said Chaplin titles. So the question still remains, who at TCM confirmed that somone at TCM _did_ make the cuts to these films? It makes your posting sound more like a wild accusation instead of the passionate statement of frustration that I believe it was. I'm not taking sides on this, I too was curious who you souce at TCM was and what their expalanation was about these versins of the Chaplin shorts.

Nice lobby cards! Love the graphics from this time period.

When UNFORGIVEN came out in 1992, I was so impressed with his take on the old west. It was a more realistic look at the characters that populated the old west in the late 1800s. It is one of my favorite western films.

I bought the Olive Thomas dvd a while back, and enjoyed the doc very much. THE FLAPPER is also a delight.

THREE STRANGERS is my favorite Lorre/Greenstreet colaboration.

molo14, I agree. BLONDE CRAZY is among my favorites. The chemistry between Blondell and Cagney, is terrific. I read on the boards somewhere that TCM is negotiating with Universal for some upcoming titles. I hope that means that TCM will be able to tap into Universal's pre-codes and the pre 1948 Paramount films. Maybe we'll be able to see Mae West films like NIGHT AFTER NIGHT (1932), I'M NO ANGEL (1933) and some of the Marlene Dietrich films like DISHONORED (1931), SHANGHAI EXPRESS (1932), BLONDE VENUS (1932), or even the Lubitsch Paramount precodes BROKEN LULLABY (1932), ONE HOUR WITH YOU (1932).
-
Some other pre-codes that aren't "women's pictures" would be BLONDE CRAZY (1931), FIVE STAR FINAL (1931), BY WHOSE HAND? (1932), THE SECRET SIX (1932), SKYSCRAPER SOULS (1932), TWO SECONDS (1932), IS MY FACE RED (1932), THE NUISANCE (1933), CLEAR ALL WIRES (1933), LADY KILLER (1933). All of these have been shown on TCM at one time or another. Hopefully they will be shown in the near future.
-
I hope TCM will continue to show more of the pre-codes There are many in their library that they have not shown in quite a while, movies like BAD COMPANY (1931), TWO SECONDS (1932), IS MY FACE RED (1932), BLESSED EVENT (1932), I'VE GOT YOUR NUMBER (1934), among others.

"I got you confused with Scottman." Should I be insulted or flattered ? ;-)

Jeff, The Vitaphone Project was started in part to preserve as many of the early Vitaphone shorts that still survive as possible. The fact that they only have that many left to preserve and that Time Warner is still keeping to their commitment is commendable. Yes, that means that SYNTHETIC SIN and WHY BE GOOD will have to wait another year or two, but I believe that it will still be worth the wait. I (for one), am glad that Time Warner is bothering to preserve the short films, as they are as much an important historical document of late 1920s vaudeville and dance band entertainment as a feature film, and would otherwise have been lost. As for the poor sales of dvd sets like THE JAZZ SINGER, the thing to remember is the more of us that purchase the set instead of taping or copying to a DVR, the more likely it is that future sets will come out. Time Warner (like any other business) is in this for as much $$ as they can make. If there's no money in it, they will not produce more of it.

Eddie G, star of the month! That would be great. Maybe TCM would trot out TWO SECONDS (1932), one of my favorite early Edward G. Robinson films. They haven't shown it in quite a while. -
Neat stuff!

Yep, DEVIL'S CABERET, starring Eddie Buzzell. It's a fun short film with a great pun ending.
