  1. Classic: tie between Orson Wells and Vincente Minelli. Contemporary: M. Night Shyamylan, Sofia Coppola, and Quentin Tarentino
  2. two words: The Tingler. Scares me every time! add: The Bad Seed. I still get nightmares. Patty McCormack was sooooo convincing. Too convincing.
  3. I love them because my mom loved them. She showed me my first classic film when I was 3, it was "Bright Eyes" with Shirley Temple. As I grew up my mom and I always watched our favorites together, usually the ones she loved when she was growing up in the 60's. I have my own preferences now of course, but I like to watch my mom's favorites because they remind me of her. I'm now 21 and living away from home, so watching classic films is a comfort for me.
  4. I am now watching "Dracula" for the first time on TCM, and I am hysterical laughing that they would use the theme from Swan Lake, the most famous and revered ballet ever (in my dancer's opinion) as the opening credits. There's nothing wrong with that, but putting the two together makes me picture Bella in a white tutu and pointe shoes doing releve and grand jete's all over the dungeon, with his minions as back up dancers.
  5. Thanks for your replies everyone. I always liked any intro to a movie just to get another little bit of trivia, it's never mattered to me very much who says it or how much they really know about the film and old Hollywood in general. Yet, I see where most of you are coming from in your support for Osbourne. I've had this idea in my head for a long time now that TCM should do a "guest host" contest where viewers and classic film fans can send in tapes of themselves talking about their love for and knowledge of classic film, and then picking a few winners to come do a guest intro to their
  6. Holy cow! Another reason to love TCM even more, right now they are airing a deleted musical number from The Harvey Girls! I am a very happy girl right now.
  7. > Be sure to watch "Meet Me in St. Louis" tonight at 8 > - actually in an hour! It's one of the GREATEST > movies of all time! werd.
  8. I am all about Judy. Now she was a triple threat. I also enjoy: Carey Grant Julie Andrews June Harver Alice Faye Jimmy Stewart Natalie Wood Maureen O'Hara Feed Ataire Gene Kelly Bette Davis Vivien Leigh
  9. Ok, which movie intro guy do you prefer? Robert Osbourne from TCM, or Nick Clooney from AMC (back in the day before it sold out)? My vote goes to Robert.
  10. Hi! Many great classic films are also plays like "The Philadelphia Story," "The Women" and "Of Mice and Men." There are lots of great monologues out there from movies and since they are also in play form should be readily available. Good luck and let us know which one you chose!
  11. yes, I am so excited for today's lineup! and we got Zigfield Girl last night!
  12. Thanks for the welcomes everyone! Since there doesn't seem to be an FAQ, I have some questions about these forums that hopefully you all can answer for me. I belong to another board that is heavily moderated and there are a lot of rules about posting, etc. What kinds of restrictions, if any, are here? Any rules against flaming, harassment, trolling, spamming, etc? How "off topic" is too off topic? Things like that. Thank you!
  13. Hi everyone, I thought I would introduce myself. My name is Nikki, I'm a college senior from upstate NY and die hard classic movie fan. I guess it all started when I saw my first Shirley Temple movies when I was a little girl. From there it grew to a love of all classic film as I got older. It is a passion I share with my mom and grandmother, something that brings us together when there's a really good one on. I also like contemporary film, but at the end of the day i'm drawn back to the classics. Some of my favorites include: Hitchcock, Vincent Price, Rogers and Hammerstein, big budg
