That all happened way back in ancient times, before any of us could remember it. I don't. My father was born in 1944 and my mother was born in 1946, so they have no memory at all of those times. They were way too young to remember any of it.

I used to be the guitarist in a band in the '80s. My sister was the group's lead singer, and all five bandmembers got attention.
I hate to break it to you, but big band, the '40s and B&W movies SUCK!!!!!!!!!!

You are definitely out of place slcsjjb. You remind me of a girl in my 7th grade class. It was the spring of 1978, and the teacher said we could bring in 8-tracks to listen to. Not surprisingly, every one (including me) brought in the hits of the day: Hall & Oates, KISS, Steve Miller Band, Fleetwood Mac, Styx, Queen, etc. This girl brought in Glenn Miller.

i think that you guys (and dolls) are putting too much into this. A music video is not unlike a section of film explaining the emotion of the intended moment. A film just carries a lot more dialog to explain the intended circumstance. If you pull out a three minute montage from a Fred E. Ginger R. film it would not be much different than a lot of todays videos (other than the fact that todays videos SUCK) Just a different time I suppose.
W-R-O-N-G! Those segments don't even LOOK like a music video! Like I said, there are lots of idiots on here that actually think that a musical number, when standing alone, is a video. NO! A music video is intentionally designed for television with only one thing in mind: to promote the record.
Also, this whole board is terrible. Its time that everyone here gives up their love of the '30s and '40s (the two worst decades in everyway imaginable) and realize that the '80s was not a terrible decade. Now the '90s and today, on the other hand...

I am not a fan of today's crap either. I like the '80s.
Also, the music of the pre-1960s (especially from the silent era through World War II) is among the worst ever cut (even worst that today's rap/crap, and that's saying something!)
And I certainly think that people (like harlowkeatongirl, msladysoul, stoneyburke666) around here are overestimating stupid B-movies and B-actors and trying to say they are better than big stars.
They remind me of a guy in a newsgroup who pushes these ultra-obscure records and tries to elevate them over obviously more well known ones and claims these obscure acts were more influential than big stars of the day.

Man, I can't believe how freakin' square you guys are! People who were born in the '60s, '70s and even the '80s who actually like the crap movies of crap actors who have been dead for 30 and 40+ years now. That stupid Jean Harlow has been dead for 67 years, and harlowkeatongirl thinks she was the world's greatest actress. Then there are those who think black & white is better than color, those who despite new stuff, those who regard the stupid big band sound as the best in the world...and there are some real idiots on this board who regard musical numbers as music videos.
My favorite classic actor? NONE. My favorite classic movie? Only have one: The Wizard of Oz.
Sorry for the somewhat "offensive" outbursts, but I am an '80s who loves watching old MTV tapes (even though its now THE worst station on television) and watching '80s movies. I came here because my girlfriend is a huge fan of Natalie Wood, and I am considering breaking up thanks to her interests.

I didn't ask if the whole musical qualifies, just a certain number. Even though I vehemently disagree with both that and the short films of bands, I guess you could say that. I think the first music video was Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody from 1975.

I graduated from high school in 1983, and I am a HUGE fan of classic music videos. I think the first ones came in the 70s before MTV hit, but I know some of the people on this forum think that the first videos are actually musical numbers, but that is something I'll never know why. Anyway, how many of you think that classic musicals qualify as videos?
