  1. Yea! Finally! I've already requested Sept. 18 off from work just in case TCM decides to celebrate Garbo's 100th b-day. I am definitely going to purchase her box set. Thank you so much for the great news!
  2. Ain't that the truth, Mongo! The only place where I read that was in Garbo: Her Story, by Anton Gronowicz (1990). That book was full of illusions, lies, less than half truths. Mr. Gronowicz had a fixation on Garbo. The book was not published until after his death, and also Garbo's. It was trashed by the critics and by representatives of Garbo's estate. If anyone has the time, I suggest you pick up a copy at your local library and read it. It is ludicrous and you will see where I am coming from after you read it. Please, don't misunderstand me. I'm not bashing Mr. Gronowicz because Garbo is my all-time favorite actress. The stories he tells about her are ridiculous! And as for her being bisexual, who wasn't?! It was the "in" thing during the 20's and 30's. It was the Jazz Age and everybody was trying everything.
  3. I would also like to see a biopic of Garbo. In the early 80's, "Movie-ola" made a film about the love affair between Garbo and Gilbert. It was absolutely awful. The only thing that the movie got correct was that Garbo was from Sweden, Stiller was her mentor, and Gilbert was in love with her. I don't know who I would like to see play Garbo. There is no one in today's Hollywood, in my opinion, that can pull her off. I would also like to see a biopic of Rita Hayworth, Clara Bow, Tyrone Power, and Spencer Tracy.
  4. I haven't checked the schedule yet, but I was wondering if TCM will show "A Christmas Story". God that movie is hilarious!
  5. I have received "combined gifts", coffeedan, being that my b-day is on Christmas. But it's the thought that counts. My friends have tried celebrating it on a different day, but it doesn't feel the same. I would not have my b-day on any other day. OH! I forgot! Francis Albert Sinatra's B-day is 12/12. I started a Sinatra fan club at work and every year we go out and have a few martinis for him.
  6. Hey, gingerrogers25! I couldn't view your movie, but I voted for you anyway. Good luck!
  7. Happy Bithday, December Babies! My b-day is 12/25/70 Great idea to have this thread!
  8. I don't know if she would be classified as a **** or tramp, but I love Rita Hayworth's character in Gilda. WOW! She was awesome in that role! I know this has been mentioned before, but I have to say it agian. Bette Davis in Of Human Bondage. LOL I had to do that scene where she's telling Leslie Howard she wiped her mouth after his kisses in my high school drama class. Needless to say I didn't come close to Bette, but it was fun.
  9. I just want to wish everyone a very happy and safe Thanksgiving. Even though I have been a member of TCM's message board for only one month, I feel that I have learned soooooo much from all of you and that I feel comfortable to talk about my love of classic films. Finally, I have found a place where I can talk and share some knowledge of legendary Hollywood.
  10. A couple of characters to mind.. Sarah Jane and her mother Annie from Imitation of Life (I've seen both versions several times and bawl everytime) Oscar Schindler from Schindler's List Garbo in Camille
  11. Oops! My apologies, Mongo. My speed reading skills are not up to par:)
  12. I don't mean to sound like the Scrooge, but this re-make of The Women is a HUGE MISTAKE. Why can't Hollywood leave the best alone? I have the same questions that everyone has asked-Who will play Shearer's, Crawford's, Russell's, Goddard's parts? Who can fill those shoes today? NO ONE! I get so ticked off at today's Hollywood for messing with the classics. That's the reason why they are classics. BECAUSE THEY ARE DAMN GOOD! If this re-make turns out to be a bomb, that should be a wake up call for Hollywood. Get some damn talent over there. Get some creativity. If it comes in pill form, take it. There maybe some of you out there that disagree with me. That's OK. I just needed to get this off of my chest.
  13. I've read through some of this thread and I didn't see IMITATION OF LIVE mentioned. I've seen that countless of times and I still bawl my eyes out! There are couple of more I can mention: Camille The Best Years Of Our Lives An Affair To Remember (both versions-Boyer&Dunne and Grant&Kerr) Dr. Zhivago It's healthy to have a good cry. Especially if you are watching TCM:)
  14. My sentiments, exactly (e.g. The Women. I mean, come on!)
  15. My Mother and I have been racking our brains for the title of this movie...It was made during WWII and I believed it starred Ginger Rogers. She opens her house for women whose husbands were off fighting in the war. There is this one lady who does all the cooking for them. The only thing my Mother and I can remember is that she always cooks stuffed cabbage. It's considered a tearjerker, so I'm hoping that TCM will show it one Tuesday this month. If anybody out there who knows what I'm talking about, please reply. I really do appreciate it!

  22. Welcome aboard, therealfuster! I've only been a member here myself since late October, so I kinda know how you feel. I'm kind of shy by nature, so what I did was go into a live chat room. I got over the shyness somewhat b/c the people there were rude. I don't let my being shy let people get away with being rude to me. Anyway, what I learned was to just jump in and talk (or type). From what I gather, the people who are members of this message board are really cool. I've learned a lot from what I read in here. And I thought I was an aficionado on this stuff. Please don't be discouraged. I live in Florida and the only time I get to check out the threads is when I get home from work, which is around 5:30-6:00. Hang in there!!!
  23. I'm clapping my hands as I type, therealfuster!! Yes, I've notice some repeats, but who gives a damn?! I stayed up until 11:30 last night watching the Treasures and I was absolutely mesmerized. (11:30 may not be late for a lot of you, but I get up at 4am). I had to do without TCM while I was at FSU. I went through withdraws. So TCM can repeat all they want. They will not hear of one complaint from me.
  24. I think Myrna Loy would fit in this catagory. Along with Priscilla Lane, Joan Fontain, Ginger Rogers, Irenne Dunn, Garbo (of course!), and Greer Garson.
