I really really appreciate all of you guys voting for me - I knew I could count on the TCM Forum people to vote for me. However, they're still winning. I don't know if they live in Fraternities or something, but they have an advantage over us still. If you could PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE rally some other people into voting (except for Mongo ;-) ) because you liked my movie, I'd be so grateful. I'd hate for all your efforts earlier to go for nothing. Thanks more than I can write, everyone.

Stage acting is great fun, too. I'm in plays at my high school and they are pretty awesome. I'd rather make a movie, though. ;-) Film study is so much fun. I took a Film Theory class this summer - we watched what my teacher considered the essentials. We watched Great Train Robbery, Nanook of the North, The Wild One, Paranoiac, The Red Balloon, Vincent Price movies, Abbott and Costello, Zero for Conduct, and a lot of rarer ones he owned himself. It was the most fun I've ever had in a summer - and that's saying a lot!

I can't believe how you guys rallied for me! I was expecting my post to get erased by the administration for being unrelated or solicitous or something. I just want to say thank you to all of you that are voting for me! I wish I could buy you all Cary Grant's Biography or something. Your votes really pulled me ahead. Thanks super much! I'm glad you liked it. I like mine better too but prehaps I'm duly biased. I'm bright eye productions because I have particularily light green eyes. I figured that if I could draw attention to my eyes, people'd remember me better. Also, play on the words 'Bright Idea'. Dr. Darcy came from this little discussion with myself. "Hm. Need an alias. What to pick. Well, if I had to change my last name, what would I pick. Well, I will when I get married. Damn, I'd love to marry Mr. Darcy [from Pride and Prejudice]. Then I'd be Mrs. Darcy. or DR. Okay, I am calling on my fellow TCMers for help. My brother and I have recently made a film for the University of Nebraska's "Real Nebraska Video Contest" and have made it to the finals. Too exciting. The grand prize is $1,000 and we'd dearly like to win. This is where you all come in. You get a chance to vote online for whichever video you like best (mine, of course). We're under the title of 'Bright Eye Productions' and are against a group called 'Incognito'. Right now they are winning and their video is really not all that fantastic - they just have a lot of friends. So I have to rely on my friends here. This IS related to old films because there is stock footage of Eisenhower and the United Nations in the 1950s, deliberating on important issues. If you don't have time to make an educated decision by actually watching them both, stick to old loyalties and vote for me anyway. Our movie is 5 minutes long and a satirical comedy of sorts. I once won (back when they had TCM merchendice) a TCM gangster sweater. I wore it every day for three years until it got a slice in it from getting caught in something. Its lying in my drawers now, in humble retirement 'til I summon the energy to go ALL the way to Hobby Lobby. Funny thing is is that I won it during the Antrax scare. So I get this huge package in the mail from TCM - Simply tooooo good to be true. I was so afraid of opening it :-p

Believe me, my dear Jonathan, that your post, so far from doing you any disservice, rather adds to your other perfections. You would have been less amiable in my eyes had there not been this little rebuff of the 1940s version; but allow me to assure you, that I have the respected TCM's permission for this address. You can hardly doubt the purpose of my post, however your natural delicacy may lead you to dissemble; my love of the A&E version has been too marked to be mistaken. Almost as soon as I entered the 'General Discussions', I singled you out as the post of my future opinion. But before I am run away with by my feelings on this subject, perhaps it will be advisable for me to state my reasons for loving the A&E version -- and, moreover, for coming into this post with the design of telling you of my Austinian love, as I certainly will. I love Mr. Collin's proposal. It can be applied to anything. I need to buy another Pride and Prejudice because the one I have I watch (all the way through) at least once a month and it is awfully scratched. I can barely get through Netherfield ball without it jumping about. I was not overly impressed with the 1940s version because of one reason - Mary was too pretty. Her point in the book is NOT to be pretty. But that's just me. But, as you state, as a die hard Austen fan I did not approve of those more slight details. However, A & E knows that nothing is too slight to count as negligable.

I wasn't aware there was another Godfather! Way too cool! Will ask for for Christmas. My Christmas list is insane - I had about 30 DVD's down when I realized that they might just pick randomly from the list. So I decided to bold the ones I really want - and I still had about 20 bolded.

Say, Kimbo, if it isn't prying into your 'secret identity', what college did you go to? At the University of Nebraska (god, I hate saying that) they have it under english, like you said, but allow you to call it your major, so its a half and half. What do you plan on being when you grow up? (as this is a teenage forum, I think I can use the phrase)

I personally am going to go to the University of Nebraska for a year (as I live here) and then transfer to New York University. They have an excellent film school. Quite frankly, most places on the east and west coast have film schools. States that come to mind are New York, South Carolina, Florida, and California. What kind do you want to study? Film Studies or Film Production? Film studies is criticism and history and theory (way too interesting stuff, I've taken a theory class) OR you can go the 'dangerous route' and go into Film Production in hopes of becoming a Director/Producer/Editor/Etc.. There are only two books in this world that dont live up to the movies. Funnily enough, it replies to all three posts posted here. Gone with the Wind and The Godfather. I suggest, ljenson71, that you read the Godfather - you'll love it even more. It gets kinda nasty at parts (who'd think that that Wolfe guy was a disgusting pedophile?) And to kimbo3200, DO watch the A&E five hour one. I own it and its by far the most watched DVD in my collection. I adore Mr. Darcy more in that movie than the Olivier version. Seriously, my absolute favorite miniseries. I also plan on majoring in Film Production and Film Studies. I dont want to work for TCM - I want them to play my movies in 20 years :-D Thank god people replied to my post. I was beginning to feel like, as one post-person called me once, "a yung-un".

I know that all sorts of ages come to these TCM forums, from kids that have yet to see all Hitchcock movies to those that went to go see Gone with the Wind premier. However, as a 16 year old myself, I just want to 'shout out' to other teenage or lesser TCM fans that might come to this forum. My question is - How did you get into the whole classic film thing? God knows its not the most common thing to get into for teenagers. My Story: So, as a avid reader, I'm reading this one World War II book called "Coming Home" by Rosamund Piltcher (side note: They later made this into a movie with Peter O'Toole, for you O'Toole fans). Anyroad, at one point she goes to see 'Top Hat' at her local theatre, yada yada yada. Anyway, so I'm reading this and I set it down to watch TV for a bit. The TV Guide channel says, lo and behold, that Top Hat is on the old movie channel. So I flip to it and settle down, prepared to be bored but at least more knowledgeable. I was 12. By jove. Top Hat always remains quite firm in my head as what a classic film means to me. It was lively - colorful in a black and white way - catchy - had great songs - beautiful women with plumed dresses - funny circumstances - and tap dancing. Hence the screen name Gingerrogers25. My little tribute to my introduction. Naturally, I watched almost all of Fred Astaire's movies, then all Ginger Roger movies. Then, one day, after Going Down to Rio, the movie 'Pal Joey' was on, so I decided to watch it. Thus began my obsession with Frankie. and so on, and so on. Tell me your story, teenagers and younger, how you got into this special little clique that is the classic movie fan.

I actually do own the DVD and recommend it to all. The behind the scenes is short but endearing. Besides, you can listen to Auld Lange Syne all you want.

Fear not. If TCM doesn't show it, it'll be on some other channel like ABC or CBS or whatever. It's the essential Christmas movie - they show it over and over again. That and Miracle on 34th street. Trust me, I once was able to watch MO34thS 3 times in a row due to it being so 'in demand.' Fear not. You'll get your Auld Lang Syne, one way or another.

I was reading my answer when I was actually quite ashamed of myself: Greta Garbo. Possibly the closest thing humans will get to perfection. I'm so glad they kept her after sound hit hollywood, accent and all. She makes us Swedes oh-so-proud. Her and Ingred Bergman. But Garbo - by jove, I'd give quite a bit to look like her. Like my Godfather poster. Or even cable (god forbid).

Who would Meg Ryan play? Certainly not Norma Shearers' part? She's far too un-timid to be bullied around by catty women.

I'd have to say the most beautiful women of hollywood, who could act with any man, pull off any scene and steal any film would have to be Grace Kelly and Joan Crawford. I swear, in color or in silver, they were so gorgeous and so perfect in their own ways. Grace kelly is especially beautiful in 'Rear Window' when she leans in to kiss Jimmy Stewart. Makes me rather disdainful of my brown curly hair and tanned skin. Speaking of which - does anyone know of any actresses that had naturally curly hair? I've been trying to see if there were any, but they all either straighten it or they simply never made it to hollywood. I'm talk about classic actresses, naturally. Nowadays we've got Meg Ryan and such. (Shirley Temple didn't, get over it.)

I don't get 100% of my film discussion gratification from these forums - I've got a couple of friends that are as head first in classic films as I am so I only come here for creative posting, not necessarily discussion. I hate to disappoint, dontchaknow. Maybe TCM should hit the refresh button every 3 months or so and clear the forum topics (saving the responses in your own profile deal, same as watches) and start afresh. I don't much go back 4 or 5 pages to see discussions of yore. By the by, what is meant by "I am rather obnoxious, being that I am a female, and do have that effect on people." I do hope it was sarcasm or, as Miss Bingley once remarked "You are so severe upon your own sex."
