  1. Hello moviejoe79, beastooge & bansi4, Thank you for the info and your thoughts regarding the April broadcasts and the new Hallmark DVD release. I'm just hoping there will be lots more to come, but even if there isn't, I plan to have all 3 of my VCR's going full tilt on April 1. Now if they could only find a print of THE ROGUE'S SONG... HEAVY SIGH. C. Panella
  2. Hi, I stupidly broke a prized TCM coffee mug which wasn't mine. Is anybody prepared to sell me one?.....Please?
  3. I Hate it! I used to love the way your network had that vintage look and feel to it. Everytime a short interview would come on you would play a clip of a movie projector flickering on the TCM logo in an old movie palace, now you show a black screen with a TCM logo, that says original production while some guy is plucking strings on a bass. When you showed the list of upcoming films, you played classic jazz with a poster montage in the backgroung, now we get some crappy North by Northwest rip off with cheesy computer effects and some synthetic sounds in the background. Even your comecials and advertisements looked like something out of an old film noir, and fit the channel perfectly. Now the look of your channel seems extremely out of place, when compared to 70% of the films you show on the station. Why did you feel the need to update your channel? Was it to make it hip and fresh for younger viewers? if so I, myself am a younger viewer my self and would much rather have the vintage look back. that's what attracted me to the channel in the first place. Im not bashing the channel, because I LOVE it! You have the greatest library of films on tv, and it's good to know where there's a channel that plays great classics, rare hard to find gems, and vintage goodies uncut and commercial-free! Thanks TCM! But please go back to your channel's classic look and feel. Even though it's the films themselves that should be taken into consideration (I still love 'em, and will keep on watching just because of them) The network's look still feels out of place and is a bit distracting. Does anyone else feel this way at all?
  4. I have been searching for lyrics to the songs sung by a group of four young girls in the 1930 film short "Gus Edwards' Kiddie Revue". It's such a cute song. I've been searching for a few years now. There seems to be no record of the cast for this movie. I know all lyrics were written by Will Cobb and George Waggner. I can't seem to locate any music from this movie. If anyone out there has any idea how to get the music or happens to know the name of the song please let me know. Thanks a million.
  5. the movie you are thinking of is one of my favorites. It is called it happend in brooklyn, and stars Frank Sinatra, Peter Lawford, Jimmy Durante and Kathrn Grayson
  6. will tcm be running her films i found stella parish and little big shot anytime soon?
  7. no my friend talked to them last yr. he asked them to release it they said as usual no! screw no.
  8. I'm a brand new member of TCM, and just had to join when I saw that the April schedule included so many wonderful Laurel and Hardy films. I don't know if this is how to go about asking, but could you tell me if TCM will be broadcasting newly restored prints of these films or not. I also understand that Hallmark is releasing a second L&H volume on DVD in March. Do you have any information about this new release, as well? I know that Hallmark didn't do any restoration for the first DVD volume and the quality wasn't as good as I'd hoped. I have many L&H sound shorts and features on VHS, but would love to get them on DVD, as long as the quality is superior. Thank you for any information that you can provide regarding these broadcasts and DVD releases.
  9. i wonder why they told my friend they own it then last year? i wonder what their problem is with not releaseing this on dvd or letting you run it? call them and tell them it's time to quit saying no. we are sick of their saying no. it will the big dumb twits best release it.
  10. Hello, Regarding your search for a Maureen O'Hara fan club, your best bet would be to go to www.moharamagazine.com I don't know if you can actually get a letter directly to Miss O'Hara herself, but this website is the only one that she has officially authorized to represent her. The website is run by June Beck. There are picture galleries, and updates on her current activites. There is also a guestbook and forum/message board for registered members. If you are a fan, this would be THE PLACE to go. Good Luck.
  11. And I believe the woman's character was named Anne or Annie.
  12. Samuel Marx is dead (1992, must have been soon after he was filmed for THE LION ROARS). Roger Mayer is receiving the Hersholt Award. He worked at MGM, Turuner, now Warners and is responsible for much of the restortion done on the films in the library. Very deserved.
  13. As noted below, these questions are the annual "what happened to Silent Sundays, Syncopation Station, etc." that come around every Oscar month.
  14. The Bond films are still owned by MGM, not part of the sale to Turner.
  15. I believe Robert Osborne lives in NYC. Not sure where they tape the intros - I would presume there for convenience. His column in the Reporter regularly covers the theater beat, so it makes sense for him to be based there. I think that the clips of stars reminiscing are filmed in batches at Warners in Burbank.
  16. I believe Warner Home Video is planning a box set of Garbo DVD releases to coincide with her centenial.
  17. I don't think this is in the TCM library. They'd have to license it.
  18. When I lived in San Francisco, the pre-code films always were the most popular selling of the festivals. It would be a great idea for TCM to schedule a month of them. I really enjoyed the "Complicated Women" doc of 2 years ago and the films shown during that month. TCM has a great library of such films, and also occasionally licenses some of them from other studios, e.g. SIGN OF THE CROSS (from Paramount, whose '30s output is owned by Universal).
  19. Shearer is more fun in her pre-Codes than in the "great lady" of the screen phase. However I agree that she is good in MARIE ANTOINETTE, far more so in the latter portions. I find the first few scenes when she's supposed to be a teenager to be painfully overacted and precious. Much better when she's trying to save her kids from the chopping block.
  20. Hello, I am new to the TCM discussion group, but had to join when I saw that the April schedule included these wonderful Laurel and Hardy films. I was wondering if anyone knows if TCM will be broadcasting newly restored prints or not. I also understand that Hallmark is releasing a second L&H volume on DVD in March. Does anyone have any information about this new release, as well? I know that Hallmark didn't do any restoration for the first DVD volume and the quality wasn't very good. I currently have all the L&H sound shorts and features on VHS, but would love to get them on DVD, as long as the quality is superior. Thank you for any information that TCM members can provide.
  21. I was watching a movie a few years back and never got to see the ending. Wondering what the outcome was has been bugging me ever since! From what I remember, the main character was a woman who worked on broadway (she was some sort of an actor) and she had a husband who was overseas (a solider) and presumed dead. She was dating a fellow actor when her husband returns for her(come to find out he never died). The plot of the movie, basically, is to find out who she chooses as they both compete for her affection. The movie was a light hearted romantic comedy made back in the 1950's or 60's. Thanks for any help you can provide!!
  22. Slapping forehead! Not Going My way, I Know Where I'm Going. Ebay has it! Thanks again.
  23. Hello, I once saw this great grade b HORROR film that i have always wanted to see again and know the name of. All i can remember is.... this severed hand starts crawling up the back seat and almost gets the driver with it's long needles that would come out of its finger tips and inject large amounts of alcohol enough to KILL. the hand once got a hold of a cow but you only saw it really drunk! ANybody know the name if this movie? ALso has anyone seen the killer shrews? or the flesh eaters? THX
  24. I'm looking for the name of a movie I saw on TCM a month or so ago, I think. I only caught pieces of it... There were two men, one of them was British. I think the character's name was Jamie. And he was friends with the other man who was dating this woman. And Jamie was in love with her. And there was something about this boy who was a really good piano player, and they had a benefit concert to get this special school to take him even though he was young. I know it's vague, but does anyone know what movie I'm talking about?
