I love that movie.

Rudy was played by character actor Charles Smith (1920-1988). A good resource for questions such as this is the Internet Movie Database, imdb.com. They list the complete casts of nearly every movie you can think of.

Does anyone know who the guy was that played "Rudy" (the second errand boy) in The Shop Around the Corner? I know I've seen him in something else, but can't think of what it is...............thanks

Hi Johnny - Thank you for the nice welcome! Okay, my Lucy story - but first a little backround - Always being an avid film and theatre buff and back then an aspiring actress (call it my "That Girl" years!) in the late eighties I worked several awards shows. I was in my early tweties and looked an awful lot like Ann Margret circa "bye Bye Birdie" - I can say that now wistfully having just turned 40!! I used to be an "escort" - NOT THAT kind - example that night it was the (1988?) Comedy Hall of Fame Awards - I was Jack Lemmons (that's a whole other story!) escort - meaning I attended all of the rehearsals beforehand to find out where he would dress, where he would be seated, when he would have to go backstage, where he would talk to Entertainment Tonight, etc... So when "Jack" (Lol) would arrive that evening he would have to rely on me to escort him to where he needed to be ..... The escorts had to dress in evening attire incase we got caught on camera - that night I wore a little spaghetti strap cocktail dress... By the time Jack Lemmon was waiting in the wings, I waited in the green room - FREEZING! My nose was running and had goosebumps all over. Suddenly from behind me someone came up behind me and started rubbing their hands up and down my bare goosebumped arms - I heard a gravelly voice say - "Oh honey, you're frozen - that's one nice thing about getting old - you don't have to show skin anymore!" I turned around and LUCILLE BALL was warming me up!!!! I couldn't believe it! Then SHE asked ME if she could wait with me because she was so uncomfortable at these things - Okay guys - I know know every EVERYTHING about this woman, her shows, her life - I was SPEECHLESS!!!!Why was Lucille Ball ALONE - NO ONE was around for her - I managed to sputter that I loved her drunk Lazy Susan scene from "Yours, Mine and Ours" - She got lost in thought for a second and looked at the floor and then started to act it out!! I SWEAR I'm telling the truth - then she teared up and squeezed my hand and said "I haven't thought about that in years - thank you - you've just brought back some very happy memories!" .... Next her "escort" for the evening came and led her away. She passed away about a year later - but wow - those few minutes were so special to me. I LOVE LUCY!!

Hi Everybody - It's high time I participated! This is the 4th time I've tried this message but I couldn't get through - it was much better the the first time but now I'm frazzled!! Lol! After "lurking" here for over a year I fell like I already know you all! Hi Mongo - I have questions stored up for you! Larry - wow - what a life!! Katyscarlett - I'm sure you didn't mean to offend with the "J" word - Sabrinafair - I love Audrey, too - Leo - I'd love to read your book! Coffeedan, Myidolspencer and Brackene - your movie knowledge is awesome! Hi Sue - the object on the screen is a building ... you were tired of the old intros - at least we have a new one! Lol! and hi to everyone that I have missed! The reason that I have finally come out of hiding - over the last few months a few people have shared their dissapointment with encounters with Lucille Ball - well about a year before she died I had the great goodfortune to have a very sweet personal experience with her that I have always treasured .... I tried to post in on the "Lucy's Mean Streak" thread - but after three tries I gave up .... and now I'm going to see if this post goes through before I proceed ... Like I said - I feel like I know you all already - fingers crossed that this message goes through - Madge

No, sorry. Clue #2 - A banker.

Ah, to all of the naysayers disappointed with this year's line-up on SUMMER OF THE STARS, you should all be heartened by the poster below who had never heard of Irene Dunne and had never seen an Astaire / Rogers film - she's now hooked. That my friends is how you turn youngsters on to the classics that many of us have seen often. Add to the warhorses, a nice blend of the offbeat choices - Basil Rathbone, Joel McCrae, the afore-mentioned Dunne, Constance Bennett and you have one happy viewer!

During TCM's recent comedy classics month they aired a Chaplin film featuring a gag involving Charlie trying ,unsuccessfully, to catch a streetcar. It was hilarious. I was in a hurry to get to work and failed to jot the title of the film down. Can anyone give me the name of this film? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance. Daniel Brown

Do any of you know how many hits Frank Sinatra has? I checked on bunches of different sites and haven't found an answer. If any of you know, please let me know.

OK, here goes! Clue #1 - A wedding that doesn't happen

Marlon Brando is featured today - Aug. 19th - on TCM. They will show 10 of his movies. I wish they would have included The Fugitive Kind, Sayonara, One-Eyed Jacks, Bedtime Story, The Young Lions and Viva Zapata. But I appreciate what is being shown today. I'm so happy that they are finally featuring a day to the greatest actor - Brando. What are your favorite Marlon Brando films? Mine are - The Godfather, Streetcar Named Desire, On the Waterfront, Sayonara, One-Eyed Jacks, The Young Lions and Mutiny on the Bounty.

They all portrayed real-life entertainers: Keefe Brasselle as Eddie Cantor Barbra Streisand as Fanny Brice Larry Parks as Al Jolson

There is an actress appearing near the end of the Turner Classis Movies commercial that I cannot identify. She is young and pretty, wearing a bathing suit and a hat. Sort of laying on her side but propped up on her elbow I believe. Anyone know who I am talking about?

Alrighty, today I was completely delighted by this short with a small role by Irene Dunne. It was about a little boy who was a king of a country called Alvania. He loves cowboys and is overcome with excitement when some friendly buckaroos throw a rodeo in his courtyard. Watching this movie made me feel like a kid again. It was shown today (8/18) at 8:30, between Theodora and A Guy Named Joe. For some reason, it is not on any of the schedules and googling some lyrics of the musicals isn't turning up results. I would love it if anyone remembered the title.

Because it has been such a long time since we saw it, we don't remember much about it, but Mr. Connor's character and his family live in a small town, when the West was still young. His family is murdered, and he is beaten and left for dead, but survives and goes after the murderers. RESURRECTION might be another possibility for the title of the movie, but even that doesn't show up on any of the filmographies I accessed. I do know the title is one word and begins with the letter R. Thanks for trying to help.

Thank you so much for responding & trying to help, but I have accessed 2 or 3 of the Filmographies, and cannot find the movie on any of them. Since it's been so long ago that we saw the movie (we were still dating and caught it as a SNEAK preview), I really can't remember much about it, except that it takes place in a small town; Mr. Connor's wife & son are killed and I believe he is beaten and left for dead, but survives and hunts down the murderers. The movie might have been titled RESURRECTION, but even that doesn't show up on the filmographies. I do sooo appreciate your input. Guess I'll just keep researching. Thanks again.

Ok, I dont know any of the actors in the movie or the director, I saw this movie yrs ago and for the life of me cant remember the title of this flick. Its Black and White and there are 2 main characters, a sort of romantic drama that involves an woman "gypsy orphan" that in reality had been raised by the wealthy family in a region in England. Seems she falls in love with the new clergyman that moves in. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It probably isnt even on DVD, i dont think it was that popular a movie. Thanks again.

does TCM have future plans to offer its library to on demand tv for a monthly fee. sort of like IPOD i guess.

Perhaps you're right. I found out that there is an out of print Japanese DVD with Italian dialog. That's the only thing I could think of that would have a picture that good commercially. Hm, I dunno I just wish someone would get off their **** and release a DVD of it already >:|

Anyone have any clue as to what transfer TCM used for the dubbed version of "The Conformist" (Il Conformista) a while back? I was only half watching the movie cause it was dubbed, but it seems there's no other version out there right now. TCM's version seemed like it was DVD sharp yet there is no DVD, any clues?

I agree! Is this the first year they've had Summer Under the Stars? I've watched TCM for a while but it's always hard to keep up with all the different films and cast since the earliest movies I remember watching in theatres are things like "ET" or "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles". I've been stuck to the tv being blown away by the actors/actresses that I've always heard about. This part of film history does not get the fanfare it deserves. I hadn't even heard of Irene Dunne until today, unfortunately. Monday was the first time I watched a Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers film. Then I watched 4 more. Will TCM do similar showcases for directors? Or are director marathons limited to their birthdays? I would really enjoy a retrospective of Billy Wilder's early comedies. And to sum up, Summer Under the Stars is the greatest thing I've ever seen on television. The fun is being had.

I prefer Kelly but I love Fred Astaire too! I have seen more Gene Kelly films and have more of his dvds, he was incredibly sexy and talented. But I love the way Fred Astaire comes across too. I just bought the Astaire/Rogers collection and I can't get enough of it. I am happy to say this thread is asking "who your favorite is" instead of "who was the better dancer" considering there has been way too many discussions about who was better. For me I think it is impossible to compare the two! I don't mean to use an old cliche' but all I can say is Apples and Oranges! I love Kelly's boundless energy and combination of ballet, jazz, and Tap. Fred Astaire is incredibly graceful and floats on air! In the end I have come to the conclusion that there is no need to compare them but to embrace them both for what they had to offer and how they revolutionized the movie musical!
