Because it has been such a long time since we saw it, we don't remember much about it, but Mr. Connor's character and his family live in a small town, when the West was still young. His family is murdered, and he is beaten and left for dead, but survives and goes after the murderers. RESURRECTION might be another possibility for the title of the movie, but even that doesn't show up on any of the filmographies I accessed. I do know the title is one word and begins with the letter R. Thanks for trying to help.

Thank you so much for responding & trying to help, but I have accessed 2 or 3 of the Filmographies, and cannot find the movie on any of them. Since it's been so long ago that we saw the movie (we were still dating and caught it as a SNEAK preview), I really can't remember much about it, except that it takes place in a small town; Mr. Connor's wife & son are killed and I believe he is beaten and left for dead, but survives and hunts down the murderers. The movie might have been titled RESURRECTION, but even that doesn't show up on the filmographies. I do sooo appreciate your input. Guess I'll just keep researching. Thanks again.

Ok, I dont know any of the actors in the movie or the director, I saw this movie yrs ago and for the life of me cant remember the title of this flick. Its Black and White and there are 2 main characters, a sort of romantic drama that involves an woman "gypsy orphan" that in reality had been raised by the wealthy family in a region in England. Seems she falls in love with the new clergyman that moves in. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It probably isnt even on DVD, i dont think it was that popular a movie. Thanks again.

Perhaps you're right. I found out that there is an out of print Japanese DVD with Italian dialog. That's the only thing I could think of that would have a picture that good commercially. Hm, I dunno I just wish someone would get off their **** and release a DVD of it already >:|

Anyone have any clue as to what transfer TCM used for the dubbed version of "The Conformist" (Il Conformista) a while back? I was only half watching the movie cause it was dubbed, but it seems there's no other version out there right now. TCM's version seemed like it was DVD sharp yet there is no DVD, any clues?

I agree! Is this the first year they've had Summer Under the Stars?
I've watched TCM for a while but it's always hard to keep up with all the different films and cast since the earliest movies I remember watching in theatres are things like "ET" or "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles".
I've been stuck to the tv being blown away by the actors/actresses that I've always heard about. This part of film history does not get the fanfare it deserves. I hadn't even heard of Irene Dunne until today, unfortunately. Monday was the first time I watched a Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers film. Then I watched 4 more.
Will TCM do similar showcases for directors? Or are director marathons limited to their birthdays? I would really enjoy a retrospective of Billy Wilder's early comedies.
And to sum up, Summer Under the Stars is the greatest thing I've ever seen on television. The fun is being had.

I prefer Kelly but I love Fred Astaire too! I have seen more Gene Kelly films and have more of his dvds, he was incredibly sexy and talented. But I love the way Fred Astaire comes across too. I just bought the Astaire/Rogers collection and I can't get enough of it. I am happy to say this thread is asking "who your favorite is" instead of "who was the better dancer" considering there has been way too many discussions about who was better. For me I think it is impossible to compare the two! I don't mean to use an old cliche' but all I can say is Apples and Oranges! I love Kelly's boundless energy and combination of ballet, jazz, and Tap. Fred Astaire is incredibly graceful and floats on air!
In the end I have come to the conclusion that there is no need to compare them but to embrace them both for what they had to offer and how they revolutionized the movie musical!

Hi Mongo,
Now why didn't I know that YOU would know!
Thanks

I think Summer Under the Stars is terrific. I've really enjoyed watching showcases of various actors/actresses.
I'm especially happy that TCM has a day devoted to Marlon Brando on Aug. 19th. He is the greatest actor I've ever seen and if you just catch him in "Streetcar Named Desire" and "On The Waterfront" and "Julius Caesar", you will see why. He is absolutely spectacular in these movies from the early 1950's.

I like the TCM Summer Under the Stars. It's a nice selection of actors/actresses that are featured.
To Classicsfan 40: Hello!!! Glad you enjoyed "Streetcar Named Desire". Marlon Brando's other films are great as well and he will be featured on Friday, Aug. 19th on TCM.
Thanks TCM for doing such a great job.

All Hail Mongo!
The Movie Trivia Guru of the TCM Forums!
YES, YES, YES!!
That was it Mongo, "The Mayor of 44th Street"
I can't thank you enough for answering my question and naming that movie on the nose. You are to be commended for your dedication to movie trivia and helping us forgetful people out in our time of need.
Thanks again Mongo! (and Sue who led me to you)

Well, when will we see "The Americanization of Emily" again? Thanks!
Sorry, but I'm watching "Victor/Victoria." 1982 . . .is this the last movie Julie Andrews actually sang more than one song, usually a ballad opening number song? What a voice!
But James Garner and Robert Preston. What hotties, for a now middle aged woman like me, they were/are.
Still, when will y'all show "Emily?"

The Joan Crawford slap ("I do that in all my movies") is in "It's a Great Feeling" (1949), a Doris Day film.
-
The film you're trying to remember is "The Mayor of 44th Street" (1942) starring George Murphy, Anne Shirley, and Richard Barthelmess.

Dear TCM, my husband and I remember a movie Chuck Connors did in the mid 60's or early 70's, but is not listed on ANY of his filmographies. We believe the name of the movie is REDEMPTION...can you please help??!

What ever happened to Mamie Van Doren? Does anyone know?
A "B" movie platinum blonde actress from the 50's, she was known as the poor man's Marilyn Monroe.

Just watched "36 Hours" with, summer star of the day, James Garner. Was disappointed that this film had absolutely NO mention in the preceding interview. Have never seen this film discussed by anyone. Would love to have some background info on it. Saw it for the first time several years ago and found it to be very well done and suspenseful...so how come nobody seems to have heard of it???
-
I love them both, but the majority of my love leans closer to Kelly. I just can't get enough of him. He simply tickles me to death. I love him.

For some reason the only great slap I think of at the moment is in "Some Like It Hot," where Jack Lemmon, in the hotel elevator, shouts "What kind of a girl do you think I am, Mr. Fielding?!" and he slaps Fielding across the face. Lol. I'm sure there are slaps I like but that's all I can think of for now.

Title of Cowboy Short shown 8/18 at 8:30
in Information, Please!

Alrighty, today I was completely delighted by this short with a small role by Irene Dunne. It was about a little boy who was a king of a country called Alvania. He loves cowboys and is overcome with excitement when some friendly buckaroos throw a rodeo in his courtyard.
Watching this movie made me feel like a kid again. It was shown today (8/18) at 8:30, between Theodora and A Guy Named Joe. For some reason, it is not on any of the schedules and googling some lyrics of the musicals isn't turning up results. I would love it if anyone remembered the title.
