This movie was directed by John Sturges. It stars Michael Duane, Gloria Henry and Harry Davenport to name a few, if that helps. Does anyone know if this movie was ever released on video? And if so, where could I find it? I haven't been able to come up with much on the internet. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Here is the imdb link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0039526/ Mandy J

TBYOOL is definitely one of my all time faves. Another example of age-inappropriate casting was Carrol Baker semi-opposite James Dean in Giant. Dean's character is supposed to be Baker's parents' generation when in fact, he's only four months older than she is.

What rarely shown movies would you like TCM to play???
bhryun replied to bhryun's topic in General Discussions
There's a movie starring Doris Day and Danny Thomas called I'll See You In My Dreams. the movie's about the composer Gus Kahn ( Danny Thomas ). It's a great movie. It played on TCM a while ago. Maybe a few years back. But I liked it a lot. -
The ability to take their part and make it theirs. There are rare instances where actors actually put some effort into their roles. It's not totally unheard of, I've seen some where they really give it some "oomph". but it's all pretty much now about the paycheck, not about the craft. It's sad really.

Well in Bob's defense The Trouble With Harry could be classified a dark comedy, after all it still dealt with murder, and a dead body. Wheras Mr. and Mrs. Smith was without a doubt the only time Hitchcock did stray away from his normal intrigue and suspense, as well a dark plotlines. So this could be what Bob meant by this comment, after all when you think about it Mr. and Mrs. Smith didn't look like any of Hitchcocks other works, even The Trouble with Harry had the same feel, of Hitchcock, this film didn't.

You're right, I don't know how I could have forgotten Ralph Fiennes. Whenever I think of his performance in Shindler's List I can't believe how an actor could have made me feel hate, hope, pity and loathing all at once. I hope he continues (or returns to) getting projects like that. I like to put Maid in Manhattan far, far out of my mind!

Since "Tell It to the Marines" with Lon Chaney apparently exists in it's complete form, does anyone know if and when it will ever be released on video or DVD? Thanks.

Yeah, I knew Kate got a nomination, but I meant for Best Picture...I guess I should have clarified that.

One of my all time favorite movies is Gigi (1958), and I was wondering what other movies Louis Jourdan can be seen in. What a doll he was! Thanks for any info you might have!

This is for Mr. Osborne, if possible. In the movie "Two Girls and A Sailor" with June Allyson, Van Johnson and Gloria DeHaven- In the very LAST scene, as they are singing the very LAST note of the song in the movie, you see June Allyson, Harry James and Gloria DeHaven, and out of the clear blue, there's some guy standing right behind Mr. James singing the last note. This guy NEVER appeared Anywhere in the movie but all of a sudden for the last 30 seconds or so, he shows up out of no where. WHO is he and WHY was his "mug" inserted in the last 30 seconds?? Did someone owe him a "favor"?, or was he the Director's "Brother-in-law"??? chrltm

Since Lauren Bacall was talking about legends and how Nicole Kidman isn't one (and won't ever be one IMHO), I was thinking....which young actors today do you think may become legends in their old age? I had to think hard about this and strip away the media hype, their current popularity and focus on their diverse acting ability and those special qualities that actors like Bogart, Bergman, Becall and the like had/have. I think these people have a good shot at it: Cate Blanchett Hillary Swank Emma Thompson Wow, this was a lot harder than I thought and this is all I could come up with. I'd also like to add Russell Crowe to this list, however, I think he'll end up more of an loser than a legend! Anyone else?

Leslie Caron is another good one. And I love to hear her speak.

I can't believe no one's mentioned Audrey Hepburn or Natalie Wood! They're two of my absolute favorites!! I also love Grace Kelly and Eva Marie Saint. Marilyn Monroe was gorgeous also.

Hi eveyone: I just got through watching The Duke is Tops with Ralph Cooper and Lena Horne and was curious as to what else the director William L. Nolte did. Also where he is (if he is still alive). Can't seem to find any information on him on the net. Does anyone know anything? Thanks. Also who are those three African-Amerian tap dancers that danced in "Panama Hattie" at the very beginning of the movie? Thanks folks.

First: As a huge old movie and TCM fan, I understand that yes there are many stars and movies that don't have the same glow that those from the Golden Age did. However, as someone who also watches and enjoys modern movies there is some incredible work out there. And there are modern movies that are much better than the old ones and viceversa. We can't rule out new movies just because we're fans of the old ones. Second: as a note to wojo2110, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind did actually pick up one Oscar nom: Kate Winslet was nominated for Best Actress.

I have been watching this post and agree thoroughly. The fall of the studio system has a major part. And I just have to say, when it was stated that, "If it isn't black and white, I dont watch it." or something along those lines...I felt like it had come out of my own mouth! This is a great era and I am so glad to have found all of you to share in the experience and joy of these classic movies.... Tabitha

If I remember correctly, I think Hitchcock makes his cameo walking past the phone booth in the final part of the movie when Jack makes a phone call. Tabitha

In which movie did Judy Garland wear this dress?
bhryun replied to bhryun's topic in Information, Please!
That is most definately the dress!! Thank you, thank you!! Underneath those chiffon scarves, it was actually a bodysuit with snaps (thank goodness!) It was quite difficult to get on, and getting it off was even worse!! When Helen Rose died, she left many of the costumes she created to a woman in the Palm Springs area (for her privacy, I won't mention her name) who held fashion shows at several of the big hotels in the desert. I modeled for her at one of these shows as none of her regular models fit into this dress. I'm sure the dress was much longer on Judy Garland, but because of the uneven length, it looked fine even though I'm 5'10". -

GLAMOUR! Then, women where glamorous, alluring and yes sexy without showing off their boobs and belly-buttons. The men well dressed and groomed. Woman where ladies and men treated them as such. It was a different world in those days morally and socially, on the screen and off. The best movies where always made from good to great novels and the movie studios had a stable of fine actors and actresses to play their respective roles. That's exactly why those movies and actors will live on forever in our memories. The art of movie making has deteriorated rapidly in the last fourty years. Most of the garbage that passes itself off for a movie today is easily forgotten as well as the actors staring in them.
