  1. In second grade, I wrote a crayon filled letter to Angela Lansbury. Three weeks later I got an autograph back and took it to show and tell. A couple of years ago, I wrote to Doris Day and got a personalized autograph. I also have Joan Fontaine, Lana Turner, and esther williams! I would love to get Claudette Colbert, Jean Arthur, Dorothy McGuire, Lucille Ball, Myrna Loy, and William Powell ~Tabitha
  2. I agree....With her being the Star of the Month, I would like a mixture of movies shown and not just the Fred and Ginger ones. I am a huge fan of the Fred and Ginger movies, but there are so many more that show her versatility as an actress! I love "Black Widow," and the scene where she kills the young girl, it is great and you are actually cheering for her because I couldn't stand that girl- or at least I was! ~Tabitha
  3. TCM is one of the few reasons I pay for basic cable. Not only do I get to see tons of my favorites, but I also get to watch all the ones I missed. And all the in-between movie stuff (From the Vault, One-Reel Wonders, etc.) is entertaining also, even the commercials. Its the only station where I don't always hit 'Mute' when the ads come on.
  4. Does anybody suspect that Olivia DeHavilland most likely finished her manuscript YEARS ago and is waiting to release the book only upon her death ala Loretta Young who finally admitted that her daughter was indeed Gable's in a book designed to be released on her death. If the book has some bombshells in it, and no doubt there will be some about her sister at the very least, she will likely wait to speak from the grave as her last words on the subject? Olivia is now approaching 90 years (at the least assuming what we believe to be her birthdate) I think any touring is out of the question.
  5. Thanks for the tip jdhale, I havn't seen that one. Its on at 1:45AM here in NY, so I may record it and watch tomorrow.
  6. I like Cagney in "Shake Hands With The Devil". Be sure to watch that one. Excellent flick
  7. It depends on what I'm watching. Now I'm watching 'White Heat' so thats my favorite now, but this morning I was loving 'Yankee Doodle Dandy'.
  8. I am new to forums...so, if I rattle on please let me know. Science Fiction was the first genre I read as a child. Growing up, most movies shown on local tv stations late Friday nights or on the weekends were either horror or science fiction. Watching 50's sf is one of my cherished childhood memories - still watch whenever the chance presents itself. As for the best...it's really subjective isn't it? But if locked in a room without Scotch or cigarettes, these are a few of the movies that would help me get through the days: The Thing From Another World [Howard Hawks may have been credited as producer, but if he didn't direct he sure had a lot of input]; Invasion of the Body Snatchers; The Day the Earth Stood Still; Forbidden Planet; Them; Earth vs. the Martians; and too many more to list.
  9. i dont know why people like that movie. because i hate it. but i know it is just me because its one of the most popular films. mmm. this gum sure is good. what kind is it? ooh yeah...wait........no. forgot what its called. all i remember is i bought it from wal mart a couple of hours ago. i hate wal mart. too many happy lovy-dovy stuff like "have a nice day" with a big dumb smile. they just say that to every customer. there grocery bags stink. yesterday, my milk fell Right out. Stupid bag. Ooh?.here comes my bos?????ok. That was close. Wait let me spit a spit wad at jhonson??hahaha! Right on his tie. Man this office is boring. Oops. I forgot I was typing on singin in the rain. Excuse me for my daydreaming. I got bored cause there is not much I do at the office. How much does harris pay me for this stupid job??
  10. Jeffrey Hunter had outstanding good looks. No one could match those blue eyes back in the fifties!
  11. Welcome Jasminegirl. Im not really new, but Ive been away for a couple of months. Hope you enjoy it here. Aside from my friends next door, the people here are the only ones I know that can understand a love/obsession with classic films, and can answer almost any question on the subject! My favorites are the old horror films, silent films, and comedies.
  12. Wow! I didn't think people actually did that chain letter crap anymore. And do we really believe that this guy was a lawyer?! It would be insulting if it wasn't so laughable!
  13. I think Burton wanted to do something that was closer to the book than the original film. People who haven't read the book(s) just think of the first film version as the story, but the story was changed a lot to make it the lighter, more fun and child-like movie most of us love. Dahl's books are very funny and strange, and sometimes a bit creepy, and so is Burton, so maybe its a good combination!
  14. Thanks for the reminder. I caught it at 11PM and then stayed up for my favorite Bacall film "To Have and Have Not". I watch it every time it runs on TCM.
  15. I stumbled upon an an e-article completely unrelated about some ODD jobs people have had and this columnist who is now a writer mentioned that she had a job in the early 90's signing all of Esther Williams fan mail and that was her job. I had to email this person and she said most likely it was her signature from that period, not Esther's. Anybody know?
  16. Oh one more thing that is kinda strange, I recall now that I had actually sent 2 photos to Dehavilland...one for me and one to be signed for my Sister who was actually the real big Olivia/Errol fan. Both photos were inscribed separately as I has asked. It was a big thrill for my sister.
  17. Ok, I pulled the autograph off the shelf: Olivia inscribed the photo: "For Craig, Every Good Wish, Olivia DeHavilland" Very tight looking little letters, and the De looks like a big B. Some others: Mamie Van Doren: Very extravagant signature with xx. James Stewart, Kim Novak, Lauren Bacall, Lillian Gish- all just signed the photo Douglas Fairbanks Jr wrote: "To Craig, Happy 1993." Hedy Lamarr wrote " For Craig, Best Wishes" John Justin from Thief of Baghdad-I was saddened to learn tonight that he passed away in 1992- wrote out lines from the movie onto the stills! On another one he wrote " To Craig with good wishes across the years. Your Friend, John Justin." I really liked that one.
  18. I am shocked to hear that Olivia DeHavilland no longer signs autographs!!! Back in 1990 I had sent a photo to her in France to be signed. She DID sign it along with a little card saying "With my thanks for your kind note" or something like that with another little signature. She was the only star to do something like that. I also particularly remember my exchange with Joan Fontaine who wrote on the back of the photo I sent " YES, that IS my signature!" The two sisters have similar writing. I got a lot of photos from Marlene Dietrich who was kind enougn to send along several of her own photos (which I didn't particularly care for but I thought was very nice of her). BTW, I came across an aticle once where this woman told how she was hired as a PA by Esther Williams to sign a lot her fan mail in the early 90's and she can tell by looking if it was one of her signatures. So who knows!
  19. Got to thinking about it some more..... There is this couple at church that reminds me of Betty White and an older Gregory Peck (when he had white hair and those dark eyebrows) My sister also reminded me that the last time we went shopping at Barnes and Noble- I was looking for a Catherine Deneuve video, and the lady said that I looked like her as well.. I have also said that I resemble Doris Day. It must be the blonde hair! Tabitha
  20. I have been told that I look like Jean Arthur when my hair is curled. What a compliment! And my seventh grade science teacher, Mrs. Buell, lookid like Angela Lansbury!
  21. This too is one of my favorite movies of Ginger. This was actually the first movie that I had seen of hers that did not involve dancing and singing, which she is remembered most for. I then realized how much depth and versatility she had, and that is why she has remained one of my favorite actresses. Tabitha in tucson
  22. What is the name of the movie that starred Cornel Wilde, Gene Tierney, and Jeanne Crain, made between 1949 and 1953. I would like to have it very much, but I can't remember the name of it. Thank you, and oh, I didn't know where else to go to ask this question.
  23. Ooops! I forgot Kevin Hooks and John Howard Davies.
  24. Tommy Rettig and Brandon DeWilde.
  25. After Miss Davis, Audrey Hepburn is my favorite. I can always access her vulnerability and humanity and she, mine. I often think how ironic it is that after spending months on the continent of Africa for The Nun's Story (1959, I believe) that she returned to that continent many years later to minister to its citizens in a different way. What a marvelous actor and person!
