  2. My favorite Disney movie.... It was Aurora! And personally I preferred her in pink....the scene with her fairy godmothers making her dress still makes me laugh! Tabitha in tucson
  3. After posting this independently, I'll post it where it belongs. Sorry everyone. I've spent the last 2 hours totally enthralled by this thread. What an incredible life you've lived Larry. And we only know the very tip of the iceberg. It's so great to (as someone else put it) sit at your feet and learn of these wonderful things. Please keep them coming. You did mention a while back that you were going to tell us about the men of Hollywood - and I'm waiting impatiently. hehe You obviously have very strong American roots, were you born in Canada or did you move here at some later time in life? It's great to have you "just up the road" from me. :-) I'm the one from Lethbridge. As well as the last post from someone who just vacationed in Vancouver and enjoyed it. As Canadians, I'm sure you know what I mean when I say that not 'everything' happens in Toronto. lol Katyscarlett

    WOW!

Oh Oh!!! I screwed up royally on that one. This is in response to Larry's List. I guess I clicked on Post New Topic instead of Post Response. So sorry. Just leave this post and hopefully it will "die away". I'll repost this where it belongs. :-(

  6. I never understood Harlow being sexy either. I like her and thought she was "cute" but I never did get the sexy part. But IMO William Powell thought so, and that's good enough for me. hehe
  7. I think a distinction should be made between actors/actresses who were supposed to be sexy - or even remotely attractive and actors/actresses who were not playing sexy or attractive people and were not supposed to be thought of that way. Yes, many people have been named on here who are not sexy - but that goes without saying - they never played sexy roles or were supposed to be thought of in that manner. Compared to someone like Jayne Mansfield who was supposed to have been sexy - and I thought she looked like a glorified streetwalker. IMO she was as sleazy as they come - and not even the least bit pretty. I never did "get it". Now please don't flame me - I am talking about the "on screen" Jayne - not her private life of which I know (or care) little. ON SCREEN I thought she was really sleazy.
  8. There were just SO many, weren't there?! I agree with ALL choices. Beauty was so much a part of Hollywood in the 30s and 40s - not so much in the 50s and later, IMO.
  9. Currently, I don't have a movie in mind that I'd like to see so that is not my object in this question. But - - Have you guys ever exchanged - or copied - old movies for each other that are very hard to find and people maybe have not seen? Copied, of course, meaning something you have taped off TV. I'm not talking about illegal copying. Maybe people could get the chance to see movies they have never watched. On DVD, VHS or whatever. Maybe not even in "keepable" condition - but just so they can at least watch something they may not be able to otherwise see. Maybe this is not the place for that - but couldn't an email group or something be set up for an exchange like that? Just a thought that may help some people out a lot. Whatcha think? :-)
  10. ttoons4, I think that's because compared to the 30s and 40s there were so FEW beautiful women in the 50s. Just my opinion.
  11. Definitely "beauty is in the eye . . . ." Regardless of differing opinions about MM - I really like her - to me she was beautiful. Even before all the "fakeness" - just as Norma Jean, I think she was a beauty. Liz Taylor? To me she's never been beautiful. I've never ever understood the fanfare. Pretty? Maybe, on a good day. She's got good skin. Personally, I think she could very easily get lost in a crowd. Of course, I've always thought that the best thing about Liz Taylor was Richard Burton - but - - to each his own.
  12. I should have asked this in the previous email, sorry for taking up so much space. What IS the status of Mr. Moto movies. I haven't seen any for eons. Are they ever shown - anywhere?
  13. Too funny! I often get people to ask me questions out of the Silver Screen edition of Trivial Pursuit - keeps me on my toes and also lets me know what movies I need to see. :-)I don't play the game, I just answer the questions. hehe Anyway, last night I was stumped on one about Boston ****. My mom was surprised that I'd never heard of him. She says he was quite well known and quite good. Today I log on and find this thread. lol I guess I'll have to look into this. Does TCM ever show ANY of these movies?
  14. Hi Lux0786...ohhhhhh thank you soooo much...this has been bugging me for years!!!! So it is Lydia..wonderful. I need to find this movie right away..now you have got me curious on the incorrect part!!! Thank you so much again and i wish the best to you!! Cyndi
  15. Hi Bggalaxy....thank you for your suggestion..it sounds wonderful and something that would appeal to me. Thanks a bunch!!! Cyndi
  16. I shouldn't, but I will: Flora Robson as Queen Elizabeth I (off camera), after the defeat of the Spanish Armada. "Fire Over England", 1937. Sorry. Reginna
  17. I've always loved June Vincent. She was a B-Picture babe and villain during the 1940s. In the 50s and 60s she played in various TV dramas (most notably a few stints with Raymond Burr on his Perry Mason series). Other blonds I like are Dorothy Malone and Veda Ann Borg.
  18. Barbara O'Neil was only about six or seven years older than Vivien Leigh in GONE WITH THE WIND. In ISLAND IN THE SUN (1957), Joan Fontaine's character tells Harry Belafonte how she remembers him working for her family as a young man when she was a little girl. Joan certainly didn't look bad (she turned 40 that year), but she was nearly ten years older than the boyish-looking Belafonte. This one is TV-related, but I always found it interesting that on the series GOOD TIMES John Amos was 18 years younger than his TV wife Esther Rolle (who hid her years nicely) and seven years older than his TV son, Jimmie Walker. Sherman Helmsley of The Jeffersons was also about 20 years younger than TV wife Isabel Sanford. BLU
  19. Cleopatra (ultimately filmed with Elizabeth Taylor.) BLU
  20. "Undeniably ELIZABETH TAYLOR, one of the most haunting beauties ever. Second runner-up: the regal, delicate and gorgeous GRACE KELLY." Ditto. And I'll add a third, Dorothy Dandridge. BLU
  21. I STILL WANT TO SEE SOME OSMOND MOVIES GOIN COCONUTS/W DONNY AND MARIE I MARRIED WYATT EARP/W MARIE OSMOND WILD WOMEN OF CHASITY GULCH
  22. Sandykaypax, it's your turn to to start a new game.
  23. Hello...when i was a kid i watched a movie that left a haunting memory on me ever since. I only remember bits and pieces. I believe it was made in the 40"s or so. A beautiful woman, has three gentleman in love with her. Later in the movie she marries one of them. He must have been a sailor. THey lived near the ocean and a lighthouse. He left to go to sea..and never came back. What i remember is her painful watch for him...everyday she walks to the shore with it's torrent waters to look for him. I do remember one of the charactors, the older woman who was the old spinster that was jilted on her wedding day in the old classic Great Expectations. That is about all i remmeber, it was a hauntingly beautiful story. Does the ring a bell w/anyone? For some reason I am thinking the actress could have been Merle Oberion or Barbara Stanwick? Thanks a bunch to anyone who can shed some light on this?
  24. Ava Gardner (b.1922) played Lorne Greene's (b.1915) daughter in "Earthquake."
  25. I love the Boston **** movies and haven't seen them in ages. Columbia/Sony is notorious for their poorly run home video division. Currently they're discontinuing many of their widescreen DVDs in favor of pan & scan versions while the Sony TV division is pushing widescreen TV-go figure. George Feltenstein is truly a wise man. He has a good sense of the marketplace and gets out what he can. Time Warner also blows away the competition regarding publicizing upcoming releases. Fox puts out a fair number of classics but they don't clean them up as well as Time Warner or stick to any kind of release schedule. Movies are announced, preorders taken, then they yank it from release with no reason given or no new release date. Also-Warner showcases their new DVD releases on TCM, even Fox releases, but Fox Movie Channel uses their time to flog trash like "Fever Pitch" in between Loretta Young movies.
