Favorite foreign film (influenced by nickdimeo's topic) :)
bhryun replied to kimbo3200's topic in Your Favorites
I agree with all the films in kimbo's first post as well as The Umbrellas of Cherbourg. Amelie is another of my absolute favorites...Jean-Pierre Jeunet is brilliant. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was another more recent one that I really enjoyed. -

I would like to see some of the less serious Sydney Poitier movies on TCM. Ex. "Uptown Saturday Night", "A Piece of the Action", and "Let's Do It Again". They all are hilarious. Sydney P. and Bill Cosby made an excellent pair. I would also like to see the comedies he has directed like "Stir Crazy". Is there a reason why TCM has avoided these movies? -
Thanks very much for the info, you guys. I'll be checking out all of this and seeing what I come up with. :-)

Another example of age-inappropriate casting is Jessie Royce Landis as Cary Grant's mother in "North by Northwest." According to imdb, they were both born in the same year, and Grant was actually several months older than she.

I believe that it was intended for Rita Hayworth and I believe that he paid $1 million dollars but was forced to shelve the project because of her marriage to Aly Khan. Am I right? Tabitha in tucson

I agree to the pairing of Loy and Grant! Too bad there wasnt more movies that they could have been paired up in. I also thought Gable and Loy had some good chemistry in "Tales of Manhattan"

Right after I had posted the response with Myrna Loy, I immediately thought about Angela Llansbury from the Manchurina candidate. For another example, in "A Place in the Sun" wasn't Liz Taylor 18? How old was Monty? Tabitha in tucson

Too bad...I have learned that a lot of the movies I would like to see are on FMC. Too bad...hopefully they will someday show movies because they are good and relate to the actor, not necessarily what studio produced them! Then the Dorothy McGuire day will be able to be seen, and those movies that arent always shown will be able to be enjoyed. I would love to see... Til the End of Time- great song in the movie A Summer Place Friendly Persuasion- my favorite Trial- which is being shown on TCM sometime in September!

I would like to see and/or purchase the movie "The Cheaters", (1945) staring; Joseph Shildkraut, Eugene Pallette, and Billie Burke. Directed by Joseph Kane. One of the great underrated Christmas movies of all time which is in great danger of dissapearing into oblivion. -
I don't really remember a specific time I started watching the classics. They're pretty much all I remember from when I was young. I always had a thing for Cary Grant...I would watch His Girl Friday and An Affair to Remember again and again. I also loved the Bob Hope movie My Favorite Brunette. And my Grandma and I always watched The Sound of Music together. The only movie I remember watching that actually came out when I was a kid is The Goonies, which I still love to this day, haha.
