Sorry Mongo for not fully reading the replies. I am in agreement with you! HEDY LAMARR has always been number one my list of beauties.
-
I don't recall asking Mongo to say anything. The question was not directed to him! I'm interested in what everyone has to say!
-
I am in complete agreement will all of the respondents choices. Couldn't have put it better myself! I am surprised that no one mention ARLENE DAHL. I though she made a few movies in the late forties but perhaps it was the early fifties.

What rarely shown movies would you like TCM to play???
bhryun replied to bhryun's topic in General Discussions
The Pajama Game (I swear I've posted this twice already but it never shows up . . . did I say a dirty word?) BLU -
I got it from the library on Saturday. I'm probably going to watch it tonight. I may watch some of Footlight Parade first, but I'm probably going to watch Mildred Pierce first. It does look pretty good. Can't wait to watch it.

"how closed minded it is to refuse a movie the title of classic just because it is younger than you are." Well said! I also agree with Johnny, who said that the great majority of films shown on TCM aren't classics, just old. You can be one without being the other. I don't think it's fair to expect any one person to love every movie TCM shows. I guess they're doing a good job of presenting something for everyone. Silents, newer films, sci-fi, Westerns, epics, mysteries, series, the list goes on and on. My advice would be to enjoy when they show your favorites or new discoveries, and watch something else when they're not. BLU

Hedy Lamarr Gene Tierney Ava Gardner and others . . . Ingrid Bergman (a little less dramatic-looking than the others; she probably had her own category, to include the more fresh-faced beauties like Donna Reed, Paulette Goddard, Jeanne Crain) Linda Darnell Lena Horne Lana Turner (Grace Kelly was prettier but she didn't show up til the 50s) Brenda Marshall I'm sure I forgot some, but these come to mind right away. Laurie, I completely agree with you on this subject. I don't know about anyone else on here who's around my age, but I have certain restrictions on what I'm allowed to watch. That includes TV shows as well. I remember the days when I could flip the channel to AMC and watch whatever that was being shown. Because the films were all "the stuff we love." All of those wonderful, innocent oldies. I can't tell you the last time I watched anything on AMC. It really makes me sad. I hate it. American Movie Classics. If they are going to continue to fill AMC with "The Mask," "Moonstruck," and all of those films, then I agree that they strictly keep them to AMC and any other channel but TCM. I seriously think I'll cry if I begin to see more made-in-the-80s-and-90s films creep into the TCM schedule. I love "true" classic films with a passion, and you can only find so many certain oldies at your local libraries. Believe me, I know. I go to the library every single week for a bag-full of classics. I'm not kidding. Can't we just leave TCM filled with the beautiful Golden Age?

yes, it is crazy. drew barrymore gets on my nerves like no other. besudes i think it's hard to cast anyone as marilyn monroe. now maybe you'll think i'm crazy, but i think if anna nicole smith was a little shorter and didn't have those gigantic implants she'd be perfect for marilyn monroe.

Jennifer Lopez; now the highest pd. actress ever???
bhryun replied to spencerl964's topic in General Discussions
well j.lo makes that much because she thinks she's some kind of diva and for some reason a few poeple in hollywood agree. i don't know why they pay here so much, recently her films have been major disappointments and practically laughed out of the theaters. but remember, with or without all that money, she's just the same old jenny from the block, but with fur. -
i just finished reading some of the older posts and saw that getoverit was only 15 and was started on jerry lewis. so was i and i'm only 17. funny huh?
-
when i was little my grandma babysat me and after playing outside i'd watch old movies with her, mostly comedies. her favorite was jerry lewis movies, but i also remember marilyn monroe, cary grant, etc...
-
how could marilyn monroe be sleazy? she was sweet and generous and took her career seriously. she was hot so she was cast in sex symbol roles. just because someone's attractive, it doesn't mean they are sleazy. i would really like to know why you think she was.

Definitely Marlon Brando - best looking man I've ever seen in any movies. My other choices would be Paul Newman, James Dean, Cary Grant, Clark Gable, William Holden, Tab Hunter, Robert Montgomery, Alan Ladd, James Cagney, Robert Mitchum, Humphrey Bogart, Vic Morrow, Buster Crabbe, Kirk Douglas, Henry Fonda.

i am glad to join this forum, as i see that the people have a great taste for other generations. i love mostly the 1920's 1930's and 1940's. there is just something about the people, the places, and i dont know what it is. if i see an old picture i cannot pull away from it. there is just something different about the people that was so cool and they all were happy and they were stylish, wearing nice suits and hats. its just that people were awesome back then. they didnt know anything else than style, and class, and friendship. they did not hate like they do these days. i will never be able to discribe what was in those people. also, the wemen were hot back then. they all were. these days wemen look like trash in comparison to wemen back then. im in love with wemen of that time period. maybe im crazy, but maybe someone feels the same way i do.

Oh yes...Where HAVE all the cowboys gone? And the dashing debonair detectives? And the swashbuckling heroes? Oh, Errol. Sigh. And I could listen to Ronald Colman's voice forever. Cary Grant,Gary Cooper,Gregory Peck, Newman-those eyes are still blue. Oh well, life goes on. It just doesn't do it in the movies the way it used to.

When I was a young girl I remember watching a movie that just reached out and grabbed me and I have never forgotten it. This was the first time I saw a movie that made me cry. The problem is I can't remember the name of it, or the actors! This is what I remember of it: **This woman met this guy who was in town on leave from the war. They fell in love, and spent alot of time together. Before he went back to the war, they bought some type of necklace or medallion. *HE* wore it back to the war. Then she got word that he had been killed in the war. She freaks out and I think she gets real sick. One night (when it is raining, or snowing) she gets out of bed, runs down the street (maybe to the train or subway station??) And she sees her boyfriend that is dead. They talk and then he gives her the NECKLACE/MEDALLION. Well, you think that she is dreaming, but later when they find her passed out on the ground, SHE HAS THE NECKLACE/MEDALLION IN HER HAND. This is all I can remember of the movie. Does this sound familiar to anyone??
