Wow, I hadn't thought of it as a non-refugee from the "Isle of Lesbos" kind of thing . . .! Ha ha, but isn't she technically more of a friend of Michael Jackson's rather than Melissa Etheridge's?
Anyway, I just wanted to post that she looked great in that movie, and, frankly, was better than Van Johnson in it.
It's just that when I'm home during the day, and not checking either HGTV or the Food Network or CNN, I check out TCM and I've lately caught part of these old Liz Taylor movies that I've seen parts of when my mother watched them on the old Channel 9 in LA. Wow, she WAS beautiful! I am not a fan of early Elvis, but it's the same kind of "wow," how gorgeous is that!
But, I have caught most of "Who's Afraid . . ." over the years. That's not a film I really want to try to sit thru all at one time! Kind of like "War of the Roses." How angry can people get with each other?! Still, she was scarily good in it.
And, sorry, I guess I am overly-sentimental, but I do like watching a movie in which the song "The Last Time I Saw Paris" is playing through out it! And, yes, I will now admit it, don't tell my friends, but I like the commercial with the little elephant tap-dancing to "Singing In The Rain." Makes me giggle when I get in the shower in the morning! Tired of CNN! I need something nicer to watch before work! Ha ha ha . . . hi ho, hi ho, it's off to work I go . . .

I just caught this movie again. Is there, or was there, any woman more beautiful than Elizabeth Taylor, especially from "National Velvet" to the mid/late 60s?! In fact, the only other actor I really concentrated on and really enjoyed was Walter Pidgeon. Oh, by the way, isn't that George Dolenz, who played Claude, the husband of Donna Reed's character, the real-life father of Mickey Dolenz of the Monkees!? Yes, probably. And, yes, I did like the Monkees! (Still do!)

Because of a busy work schedule and college finals I haven't had much time to watch my favorite channel, TCM, as much in the last couple weeks. However, when I turned it on this morning I saw the familiar "feature presentation" opening but suddenly in got all shaky and I thought it was my cable, but then sci-fi images showed up and it says "The Future Is Comming Stay Tuned For Details". Im sorry if someone has already asked this quesiton or if there is other info about this on the site or on TCM...I looked and just can't seem to find it! Does anyone know what this means? I figured it meant that there is either going to be a marathon of sci-fi movies or that the movies will soon become more modern. I hope that it is the sci-fi thing...I would be very upset if TCM showed more modern movies. I love TCM because it shows pure classics...and I hope that is how it will always remain! Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

In my opinion, Ingrid Bergman was the most beautiful woman ever to have graced the screen with her presence. I'll never forget the first time I saw 'Casablanca.' The amazing thing is that she isn't meant to be centre of attention in that scene, and yet you can't take your eyes off her.
I think the other most beautiful ladies are:
~Shirley Jones
~Audrey Hepburn
~Greer Garson
~Katharine Hepburn
~Lauren Bacall
~Ginger Rogers
~Rita Hayworth

Well the great thing about TCM is there is something for everyone. I am not a real big fan of westerns, action movies, or silent films, but I'm sure there are those who love them, just like I love romance, comedy, drama and musicals. TCM offers it all, there was a time when I liked AMC but now it has more or less gone to pot, and definately doesn't live up to its name any longer IMO. The funny thing is I have always liked classic films, but I was not a regular viewer of TCM, mainly due to the fact that I use to have it on a channel with really bad reception, but recently it has become my favorite channel, and I find myself always looking at the daily schedule to see what was coming on that day. This hasn't been an easy year for me, and I have found that TCM has offered me a way to escape my troubles, and put my mind on something else. I'm glad that my cable company placed TCM on a better channel and that such a channel as TCM exist, I love their variety of films, and I love that they are commercial free. I hope they never change thier format the way that AMC did, if it isn't broke don't fix it, and TCM isn't broke.

There are so many actors and actress that I have been enjoying for so many years on TCM, but I believe I'd bring back Clark Gable, Errol Flynn, Benita Glanville, Priscilla Lane, and Jean Arthur. These are some of my favorites, and possibly John Wayne. As stated earlier, there are so many, the list would be to long and boring.
The main question would be, "If there was one thing you could change about your life, what would it be?" Gives some a chance to regenerate their life to try and live alittle longer.

I saw it on television many years ago and have not seen it since then. It's a comedy, maybe with Red Skelton or Bob Hope. At the end of the movie the hero and heroine are being chased by "bad guys" through a fun house or a series of rooms with inflatable rafts and all sorts of "fun stuff" they have to make it through. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Hi Mongo! I know that Stoneyburke mentioned his name once in this thread, but could you please tell us what you can about the unfortunately obscure Warren William? Was he unambitious? Did he drink? Why did his career decay? Thanks for any tidbits that you might throw my way!!

I watch TCM all the time. It is by far my favorite movie channel. I hate commercials. The only good thing about them is they make for a good time to take a potty break.
I just watched The Seventh Cross with Spencer Tracy, Hume Cronyn, Jessica Tandy, Signe Hasso and Agnes Moorehead to name a few actors in it. I really liked this film and it is a SPencer Tracy film I had never seen..but I have to say the cons to having TCM is I am late for work alot and I have been known to call in quite a bit (*COUGH*) **Hello...I won't be in today...I'm *COUGH* sick...*** Meanwhile I have TCM on and a big cup of hot chocolate. Hmmm wonder what's on today *grins*

I recently wrote to Betty Hutton telling her how much I enjoyed her performance in "Annie Get Your Gun". She receives mail at P.O. Box 3126, Palm Springs, CA 92263. I received a reply from her secretary as follows: "Thank you for your letter. I read it to Betty and she enjoyed it! She is fine and is 84 years old now. She sees very few people and show biz is not a part of her life anymore. Thank you again."

I'm new to this site, so bear with me if I am redundant. I saw the title 'favorites' and had to take this opportunity to mention a movie I really like because every time I've seen it I am captured by the characters and the loveliness of a time before tv when conversation was the entertainment of the day. The movie is, THE DEAD directed by John Huston and starring his daughter Angelica. If it is ever going to be scheduled on TCM I would love to get a heads up so I can copy it uninterrupted and it can entrance me again.

Oh dredagain, you've really got my curiosity up! I keep checking back on this thread to see if you've come to a conclusion. At least you've got it narrowed down! :-)
I may have to do some digging of my own!

I read online that she volunteered to take a pie in the face during the filming of Broadway Through A Keyhole (an early 30's uncredited role).
Off-hand I'm not sure of others as she was in oodles of films (many uncredited & only brief appearances) and willing to do what was called for (such as the pies) - it wouldn't surprise me to find there are more comedic physical incidents.

Yup that's it exactly. Now I remember where I saw him as well. Doctor Zhivago
Thanks a lot man. Appreciate it. -
Does anyone know the name of the latin background music that is playing during this months coming attractions?

Looking for the name of a movie. Alright I saw part of this movie on TCM maybe a month or two ago. Got 4 stars, came on at about 2am (central time). It seemed to be about (could be completely wrong) about a racist loan shark, or a banker, or a super, or a pawn shop owner. Something where he gets to see a lot of people. The lead was a white male I'd say about age 50 at this time, heavy set, intense eyes, balding on top. Crotchedy old man type character. Great actor, I've seen him in something else but I can't remember his name nor what I saw him in. The film is in black and white so I'm guessing 40s or 50s maybe MAYBE early 60s.
The only thing else I really tell you about is it might have been set in Russia or the lead was Russian or something but I remember the word Rubles being said though not sure by who. Of course it could've probly just been slang. Other than that I seem to remember it being a simple title like "The "whatever it is". Just think of good obscure movies about a racist old man and we'll start there lol.

I'm a sucker for 'con' movies. If a movie has these elements ... detective/heist/con-men/whatever.. I almost always will stop and watch it.
Lately that seems to be the theme of the movies I've rented and bought.
I also seem to like nuns/missionaries/priests as in.. The Inn of The Sixth Happiness, The Left Hand of God, The Keys To The Kingdom ,Lilly's of The Field, The Mission, Brother Orchid.
Not until your post did I relize the whole train thing but I relized too that alot of movies I enjoy also have a train scene. Funny.
Now my husband on the other hand will watch anything with a submarine in it. I think he has built in radar that knows when a movie will be on with subs in it!

i'm needing some info on a movie i watched some years ago. it was made in the 1940's or early 50's. it was about a man who had raised his two daughters on a south pacific island. i think he was some type of plantation owner. the setting was near the end of world war 11 with the japanese. the mans daughters had not had much contact with men and all the sudden a large navy vessel stops by this island in need of supplies. the ship was full of sailors who hadn't seen any women in a few months. it creates a unique situation for the man and his beautiful daughters. i cant remember the name of the movie, the actors,or how it ends. please help
