  1. Just for fun, I did a schedule search for Warren William and found that the following movies will be shown on TCM in the near future. Wish that "Employee Entrance", "The Match King" and "Skyscraper Souls" were among them, but these will do for now. BTW, William is the peppiest, and probably the shadiest Perry Mason ever--he had FUN playing the role. I don't know why TCM lists Errol Flynn as one of the costars of "The Case of the Curious Bride" since he was, I believe , a corpse in this, his first American film. I can't wait to see "Don't Bet on Blondes" or the intriguing sounding "The Mind Reader", both of which are new to me. Has anyone else seen these films? ________________________________________________________ Case of the Curious Bride, The / 1935 CAST: Warren William, Margaret Lindsay, Errol Flynn. 2. It would be great if TCM would do a series on this little giant that kept the British film industry going. It is best known for using the talents of PETER CUSHING and CHRISTOPHER LEE but had used such talent as BRIAN DONLEVY, BARBARA PAYTON, RAQUEL WELCH, DEAN JAGGER, ANDREW KEIR, HOWARD DUFF, FREDDIE FRANCIS, NIGEL STOCK, ERIC PORTER, HILDEGARD KNEF,JIMMY HANLEY, RICHARD MATHESON,RAY HARRYHAUSEN and many others. For Great Britan, this was a very important film company that generated not only $ but acclaim.
  3. Invasion Of The Body Snatchers: YOUR NEXT!!!!
  4. Another great movie was PROFESSIONAL SOLDIER with GLORIA STUART. Another little gem that was run on tv in the late 1950's-ealy 60's. I just got back from watching some scope 16mm prints through the kindness of a collector just to review the compositions. THE SKULL-Amicus/Paramount 1964-Directed by FREDDIE FRANCIS has NEVER been shown widescreen anywhere on tape or disc, is a visual treat. Great camera work-with a great shot of seeing the outside world through the eye-sockets of the skull as if we were looking out from within it. The film is totally about the widescreen format and not being able to see it this way is a real crime as many people have only seen P/S prints. For TCM to show this film from a great director like FREDDIE FRANCIS would be significant. Also on the program was rewatching PAUL WENDKOS's FEAR NO EVIL-Universal/MCA- a film originally shown on TV before getting a limited theatrical run. And also, BROTHERHOOD OF THE BELL-Warners- a paranoia filled plot as intense as the original INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS but based in reality. A powerhouse cast in both films containing LOUIS JOURDAN, GLEN FORD, LINDA DAY GEORGE, DEAN JAGGER, MAURICE EVANS, BRADFORD DILLMAN, WILL GEER among others and seeing them again just reinforces my opinion they should be shown again and PAUL WENDKOS should be given attention.
  5. Forrest Ackerman,I understand, also recieved word from another film goer who saw the scene. Ray Bradbury saw it as well. On a similar note, WPIX 11 I'm pretty sure it was, ran a print of RED RIVER that had almost no music cues. I irecall the climax with Wayne going to kill Cliff didn't have any music. This was in the early 1970's.
  6. Thank you very much. I really appreciate you taking the time to reply.
  7. YES!!! Thats it. Contratulations. I was beginning to think I'd have to give the answer myself. Have you seen this film? What did you think of it? I first saw it many years ago and never forgot it. I was finally able to purchase it online a while back. There's just something about this film that impressed me. I think its along the same lines as Random Harvest and Waterloo Bridge which were both previously mentioned and also happen to be favorites of mine. If you haven't seen this one I heartily recommend it. Well, now it's your turn. Thanks for hanging in there with me.
  8. OK, at first I was going to describe the film's ending, but decided against it, since I don't won't to ruin it for those who might want to view this movie later on. There are actually 2 stories being told in this film, one in the past and one in the present (which was during WW II). The heroine's name is LARK, who was orphaned as a child. The adult Lark is portrayed by Teresa Wright, a favorite of mine.
  9. Is anyone still playing the game out there? I really don't want to hold things up if no one wants to continue guessing. Please let me know if I should: A) Just Wait Provide one more clue? C) Provide the rest of the clues all together (because I'm just about out of them) D) Just give the answer
  10. In addition to the films already mentioned, (all great choices), try to catch THEM THAR HILLS and **** FOR TAT. They are 2 of their best shorts.
  11. Unfortunately, the producers are not concerned with the ratings numbers per se. Although viewership was slightly down, this broadcast was considered a big success by industry watchers. WHY? Because its all about the DEMOGRAPHICS. Commercial advertisers are not interested in attracting female viewers of any age. Nor are they interested in attracting the "older viewer", whether male or female. It's been well known for quite some time that producers and advertisers are seeking to increase viewership among the "younger adult male" audience members. So in this respect, they accomplished their goal very successfully. Viewership was markedly up in this coveted group of consumers. This is also why "reality TV" is so popular, and these shows just keep showing up all over the broadcast schedule. So don't be surprised if Chris Rock is back next year. Unfortunately, he accomplished everything he was supposed to do. I'm a realist and understand that this change will probably be permanent. By this, I mean that even if Chris Rock isn't the host next year, it won't matter because it will be someone else who is just as abrasive as he is. Controversy and cruelty is what our culture has come to admire, and there will be no going back to a kinder, gentler time. I sincerely hope that I'm mistaken in this, but truthfully I can only forsee the television landscape going from bad to worse. This is why I treasure TCM so much. I just pray they never change.

In case anyone is interested, there's a whole bunch of these books (RETURN ENGAGEMENT) for sale on HALF.COM.
  14. I don't think he sells on Ebay. And if I remember correctly, I was informed that he doesn't do business by computer or throught email. Hence, he only does business through regular mail or by telephone. By the way, I happen to have a copy of LETTY LYNTON, myself. It took me a long time to get and the picture quality is rather poor. Still, I was just thrilled to be able to see this film at all, because I had heard so much about it. If you're interested, I can make a copy but it will be a poor one. Maybe you should try this guy first to see if he has it, because the quality might be better than mine. If you do contact him, please let me know how it turns out. Good Luck, C. Panella
  15. I'm beginning to think that this movie hasn't been seen by many of you. If so, it's a real shame. I'll give a few more clues and then I'll give you the answer. CLUE #7 JEALOUS, MANIPULATIVE SISTER (the film's villan)
  16. Unfortunately, this film is not in the TCM library. I wish they would somehow find a way to license it, because I think it would be very much appreciated by viewers. I think I'm giving good clues, but I'll try to be more helpful. CLUE #6 ORPHAN
  17. Mongo, this is your best contribution to the boards yet! I've always wanted to know more about the lives of two actors who, sadly, seem unappreciated today...I've come across some pretty amusing references in some biographies to their attempts, (and successes?), at the game of love and the craft of acting, on the movie set and off. Myth or fact? Mongo, you probably know all... Here goes: What can you tell me about Fredric March? What can you tell me about Herbert Marshall, (aside from the wooden leg)? What's the scoop about Herb & Gloria Swanson? Thanks in advance--great thread, dude.
  18. Although I consider this one a great classic film, I'll admit that I haven't seen it broadcast in quite a while. One of my favorite actresses is in the cast. CLUE #5 TWO BROTHERS
  19. Ah, now THAT is a different topic - films in the TCM library that haven't been shown (or at least not in a while). I would like to see more of the early talkies and late silents - I know some are stinkers but I find the transition period from silent to sound fascinating. And how about some William Haines films - there was a Haines birthday celebration about 8 years ago, but my VCR was on the blink - they showed SPEEDWAY, NAVY BLUES, REMOTE CONTROL, WAY OUT WEST, several others. Does the print of SLIDE KELLY SLIDE have a musical track? TCM added a new score to WEST POINT and showed it as a premiere, so perhaps that would be an option as part of a baseball films theme.
  20. These are all favorite films of mine, but this one isn't it either. CLUE #4 AMBULANCE DRIVER
  21. Good to know about the Alpha disc. I saw this on a Fay Wray double feature cheapo DVD my friend had purchased and it was dreadful quality.
  22. Another good one, but no. Clue #3 ARMY OFFICER.
  23. Sorry, no. But a good guess. Clue #2 LOST LOVE.
  24. I also agree that Anton Walbrook is a fascinating actor and rare bird--though I kind of liked him in "The 49th Parallel". I've always wanted to see "Lola Montes" but I am very fond of memories of "Dangerous Moonlight" &, of course, "The Red Shoes". Regarding whether of not Nazis could speak English or travel around quite as easily as depicted in The 49th Parallel, well, you might file this under "truth is stranger than fiction." There were actually some forays onto American soil, (don't know about Canadian), during WWII by Nazis. One of the most memorable was the group who were dropped off on a Long Island, NY beach with explosives and a mission to cause as much sabotage as possible in America. They were composed of individuals who spoke English well and most had visited the US prior to this event. Additionally, since the largest number of immigrants to the US prior to WWII had come from Germany, it wasn't at all unusual to hear German-accented English spoken here and there were many Germantowns within American cities where these men could blend in at that time. There were, however, a few flaws in the Nazi plan--instead of following the master plan that they'd been given, a couple of the men tried to contact family, friends and old girlfriends upon their arrival and one guy thought he'd become an American hero by turning his compatriots into the FBI. To make a long story short, they were captured while seated in a Dinty Moore restaurant in NYC, tried, (largely in secret), and executed by the government--even the poor schmoo who thought he'd get a hardy handshake from J. Edgar. If you'd like to read some basic facts about this incident, you may want to check out the website at www.montauklife.com/history/history_night.
