I saw it in the movies in early 82, and thoroughly enjoyed it. But, definitely agree with Izcutter, they should have identified the speakers.
-
Unfortunately, PBS in my area pre-empted it to show a documentary on the Pope. So, I guess I'll have to catch it on DVD

I taped them, but haven't seen them yet. Will now be very interested in them, to see how I feel. The only thing I really know about him is the scandal that ended his career, and also feel that was a frame up.

I enjoy them immensely! The first ones I ever recall seeing where Orphans of the Storm w/Lillian and Dorothy Gish and Son of the Sheik w/Rudolph Valentino. They were shown on our local PBS station and I was hooked. I think part of the reason they don't get there due, is the change in acting styles. When people who haven't seen silent films, think of them, they see the over exaggerated movements and expressions. Also, with silent films you have to pay attention to what is going on. With sound films, you can step away for a few moments and still pretty much know what is going on. With silent films, you have to follow every step of the way. Quite the rewarding experience for those who chose to do so.

Thank you Mongo! I always liked her, and although happy for her, was sad for us fans that she decided to retire. Keith

Thanks. I was aware of that site, but actually didn't think to check to see if they had anything listed. There is also findagrave.com, which like it sounds would be for those who have already died.

Hi Mongo, Just wondering if you have any information on Jane Bryan, and what she may be up to today? Thank you for you help. Keith
-
Not sure if this should be in this section, or information please. I was just curious if anyone knows if Jane Bryan is still alive and what she may possibly be up to. I always enjoyed her work, especially the films she did with Bette Davis.

Thanks Stan "The Man". I'll be marking that on my calendar. Great price also! Keith

I love this movie. Has anyone heard of any possible DVD release?

I think Cary Grant would have been more believable in Sabrina and Love in the Afternoon, than Humprhey Bogart and Gary Cooper. We should count ourselves lucky that they made Charade together, as reportedly Cary Grant didn't want to do it, based on the age difference.

Since You Went Away

I think part of the reason people knock her and don't appreciate her is "She married the boss" and she didn't make that many films after Thalberg's death. Making people think she couldn't make it without him. What they seem to forget is her career did not begin with her marriage to Thalberg, and if she had listened to him, she never would have done The Divorcee, as he didn't think she was sexy enough. Odd, a husband not considering his wife sexy enough. But, she had the drive and ambition to have George Hurrell take the photos which convinced Thalberg she had what it takes. I really like her in Shinin' Through and Escape, even though she doesn't have a big part in it.

I'm confused as to what the fuss seems to be about. The inductees are all classic and worthy stars. The ones currently listed are just as worthy. So, who's doing all the complaining? Don't people realize anything that requires a group of people to vote is just the particular individuals preference. We all like/dislike different things. It's what makes the world go around. The only time I get annoyed is when people feel the need to knock someone, in order to try and show how great someone else is. The greats don't need anyone else knocked to prove their greatness.

Errol Flynn - In the Wake of the Bounty
kak122760 replied to kak122760's topic in Information, Please!
Thank you for your help. I checked and they don't have it listed under his name. Maybe one of these days they'll show it. Thanks again. Keith -
This film is listed as being shown on page 3 of April's Now Playing, but I can't find it actually listed in the schedule. Does anyone know if this is really being show in April, or how I could find out? Thank you. Keith

I definitely agree, Eleanor Parker deserves to be star of the month. A very under appreciated actress. She was also great in Pride of the Marines with John Garfield

Thanks Deborah. I'm going to keep looking, and when I find a copy ( and I know I will, sooner or later), it sounds like it will be well worth the wait. Keith
-
Thanks Deborah! I don't know how I missed it when it came out, but will still keep looking. Hopefully the other two books will be published. Keith

They're both great, but the winner is Bette Davis!

Jean Harlow and Clark Gable. As a movie team, I think they just oozed sex with a great sense of humor, without showing any more skin that was allowed.

Hedy Lamarr and a young Errol Flynn

Robert Osborne's book on the Oscars lists her as a nominee. I have a book from the early 70's where she is not listed. When I went to the Academy's website and did a search under her name nothing came up.

Has anyone read the biography of Joel McCrea by Tony Thomas? Sorry, I can't think of the title off the top of my head. I've been looking for a copy, and it's hard to find.
