*lynn, I don't want to wait for mere chance timing to see this* MsW, I can't find it in the Media Room but you don't have to count on chance. It's played at the beginning each time Ben M intros a film on the weekends.

Don't know how many have seen it but the new weekend open for Ben M is really, really cool. The technique used is eye-popping and the quote is terrific. Another great job by TCM's terrific On-Air Promo department. Combined with the new *Essentials* promo and open as well as the SOTM promo for Jean Harlow, they are really rocking as Markb likes to say. Props to Pola, Scott and everyone involved!

Kyle In Hollywood's CENSORED Poster Gallery
lzcutter replied to hlywdkjk's topic in Remembering Kyle in Hollywood
Chief, Thanks for the Randolph (cue chorus) Scott poster this morning. It brightened my cloudy day considerably. -
SB, You might want to check your DVR because *Riffi* aired as scheduled on Thursday evening, Mar. 17th.

Programming Suggestion: Clara Bow as Star of the Month
lzcutter replied to Jayo's topic in General Discussions
*Clara Bow was indeed a Redhead, but the film was called RED HAIR* Jeffrey, My apologies. By Sunday morning of the Festival, I was very tired and had gotten to the screening a few minutes late. I was taking notes in the dark and my penmanship gets worse as I get older. -
BRONXGIRL'S MOTHER, HENRY FONDA'S HIRSUTENESS, ETC.
lzcutter replied to Bronxgirl48's topic in Films and Filmmakers
According to my DVR, Tuesday morning 1:30 am! I've already got it programmed. I remember seeing it on its initial open back in December, 1974. We saw it on New Year's Eve at the old Fox Theater in Las Vegas. A few years before we had started a tradition of seeing films on NYE with *The Poseidon Adventure* in 1972 (also at the Fox) and *The Sting* (at the Red Rock) in 1973. We knew how to live back then, didn't we? -

*****?!?!?!?* Simple answer: *TCM Underground* Longer answer: It's part of *TCM Underground* which has been part of TCM programming for over five years now.

*What about Kubrick?* I like *Spartacus* which always strikes me as a film from the 1950s than the 1960s and *Strangelove* plenty but the other two, not so much. And while I love James Mason, I'm not a big fan of *Lolita* and I've never understood the appeal of *2001* though MrCutter likes it more than me.

*(I'm like **** Woody Allen in ANNIE HALL, if I miss even five seconds of a film's opening, I have to wait until I can see it again "from scratch", lol)* Barb, You aren't alone. I do the same thing. It's only on occasion I will watch a film that I come into after it's started and it's only if it's one I've seen before. I won't watch a film I haven't seen if I come into after the very beginning. *and there is Fred Astaire trying to impress Jennifer Jones: "The south of France is so dull -- swimming, yachting. I'm looking for reality in San Francisco".* There's reality here in the City by the Bay and not the South of France? Since when? The movies make it seem like the south of France is wonderful. By the way, *Towering Inferno* is one of my favorite guilty pleasures. I really like watching it with a bag of popcorn and a bottle of wine. -
Barb, I don't know what browser you are using but Firefox seems to work better for the problem you are having. Hope that helps!

*But I noticed that the listed capacity of The Music Box for tapings is only 450 people. Seems small and likely to fill to capacity early* I think Jon90027 is right about the projection equipment being removed from the venue since it moved from being a movie theater. No matter what event takes place at the Music Box, get in line early. That way you won't be disappointed.

Programming Suggestion: Clara Bow as Star of the Month
lzcutter replied to Jayo's topic in General Discussions
King, If I recall from almost a year ago, we saw the color footage of Clara Bow from *Red Head* as part of the *Fragments* presentation. Here's my recap from the Sunday screening of *Fragments* last year: Got there a bit late, having overslept, so I missed the opening remarks. But snippets I did see included two Clara Bow features: *Red Head* and *Three Week End* *Happiness Ahead* with Colleen Moore (can we get *Her Wild Oat* next year?) Ramon Navarro in a turban (giving Tyrone Power a run for his money) in *Love's Oath*. Ms. Guildon had received a reel of film as a Christmas gift. When she unspooled it, she discovered that there was a copy of a Hallmark Boys comedy on the end. *The Village* by John Ford included a partial reel of a disabled brother who crawls on his ends and knees to exact vengeance for his family. Trailers for Lost Films included *The Patriot* and *Beau Sabreur* starring an incredibly handsome and young Gary Cooper. -
From the sounds of the press release, it sounds like the interview with Peter O'Toole will take place at the Music Box.

Jon, I remember the Vagabond very well. La Fonda was just down the street and we'd stop there for dinner on our way to the theater. I spent more hours than I can count watching movies at the Vagabond, the Nuart, the New Beverly and the old Venice theaters back in the 1970s and the early 1980s. Between those theaters and the ones that we ran at USC as part of classes and as part of the film society, I was in classic film heaven.

*SUNSET BLVD (1950) and STALAG 17 (1953) are awfully good. But there's some weaker stuff in there as well. SABRINA, LOVE IN THE AFTERNOON and others.* Don't forget *Ace in the Hole* (aka *The Big Carnival* ) one of the most cynical films ever made. As for my pick of Mike Nichols, most directors in the 1960s (excluding foreign directors) only had one to three films making them worthy of being chosen as best for the decade.

*I'm beginning to wonder if the TCM staff ever even viewed "Suggest a Movie." And if it was so important, why was it omitted with this revised website?* Marie, Given the huge amount of baiting, snarky behavior and spamming that occurred on the *Suggest a Movie* site, I think the TCM Web staff is aware of *SaM*. They have been trying to battle the problem posters there for quite some time. There was a great deal of ridiculing of suggestions, in addition to bad manners, awful language and more that has plagued *SaM* over the last couple of years. For a time, a poster was using the *SaM* site to ridicule posters here at the Message Boards. Perhaps the *SaM* site is undergoing some sort of revision that allows people to post their suggestions but not get ridiculed for it.

*Robert Osbourne will also be interviewing O'Toole. I pray that interview makes it to the channel* K, According to the press release, it will be an extensive in-theater interview that will later be broadcast on TCM. http://news.turner.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=5588 Edited by: lzcutter for link

Hey guys, The pages are still there! I notified the WebAdmin about this problem (it's also in Movie Rambles and Kyle's Poster Gallery) last week. According to Dobbsy, to view those pages, look up at the URL at the top of the page, if the number is over 1,000 you have to remove the comma, hit the return button and the page(s) should display as always. Hopefully, the web team will fix this along with the other problems in a timely fashion. And there is a message board archive. Anytime you use the search function to find a post, you are in the archives! You can find posts that go back all the way to the very beginning of TCM City in 2001.

Ginger, Instead of starting a new thread every day about this subject, it might be worth you reading the comments people are leaving you in the other threads you started on this subject. You either have the SAP on your tv inadvertently turned on or your cable company is broadcasting the wrong channel. No one else is having this problem. Read here: http://forums.tcm.com/thread.jspa?threadID=158787&tstart=0 and here: http://forums.tcm.com/thread.jspa?threadID=158715&tstart=50

Pick a film that you actually fell asleep watching
lzcutter replied to Stephen444's topic in General Discussions
I paid full theater admission on its original release and fell asleep during the 1973 remake of *Lost Horizon* with Peter Finch and Liv Ullmann. I've never seen the film since. Movies I should have fallen asleep during: *Howard's End* and *The English Patient*. -

lzcutter replied to mdemoswirr's topic in PROBLEMS with the Message Boards
If you are referring to the spate of locked threads about problems with the upgrade, the Mods are doing that because there are existing threads already in General Discussions about the schedule problems. One of the things the Mods are trying to get people to do is post the problems they are encountering here in the Tech Thread, primarily in the "Problems with Upgrade" thread. They are asking that folks read the thread to see if their problems have been already been posted. If not, they want you to post in that thread so that they can keep track of the new problems people are encountering. As to why they lock other threads, I'll let them address that. -
JC, There are multiple threads on the subject and the mods likely locked it because they are trying to get people to read the Tech Forum where they are posting updates on the work that is being done to fix various problems with the recent upgrade. You are not alone in having problems with the daily/monthly schedule. Many people have posted about their dissatisfaction with the new schedule. To read the thread in the Tech Forum where TCMWebAdmin/Renee and the other mods are posting updates (and where you can post any other problems you are having with the upgrade) please go here: http://forums.tcm.com/thread.jspa?threadID=158621&tstart=0 Please note: Renee has asked that you (the universal you, not the personal one) read the thread first before posting. She is trying to avoid, as much as she can, having multiple posts on the same issue. Hope that helps!
