*"Limit one (1) entry per person, e-mail address or household."* Sounds like they only want you to enter once, which only seems fair. Stuffing the ballot box (so to speak) wouldn't be fair to those who only entered once.

Wouldbe, You should see *Pat Garrett* if only for the wonderful Slim Pickens and Katy Jurado. Kristofferson and James Coburn are very, very good but Slim and Katy are what I remember most. And the cinematography. Knocking on Heaven's Door is used very effectively.

Wouldbe, No problem. As you may have noticed, I answer to many different monikers (lzcutter, izcutter, on occasion FredC calls me izzy, and my personal favorite, TCM Apologist). I hope you like *The Missing*. As I said, it is a good update of the basic story of the *Searchers* and I thought it was really good. Eric Schweig (the younger brother in *The Last of the Mohicans* ) is terrific in the Scar-like role.

*So, who's Tom Brown, other than Ben's convertible buddy? I watch TCM faithfully, and I don't remember any Tom Brown* Ms. W, Watch the credits of the next *Private Screening* or any of the documentaries that air that TCM produces. You'll see his name.

Patti, Hello! The entire website got a major makeover and upgrade last Wednesday, March 9th. According to the Moderators, the "Suggest a Movie" is coming back. It may be undergoing a revamp of some sort because of all of the problems posters have had with it for the last year or so. So, stay tuned. It will return we are told!

PLEASE BRING OLD MONTHLY SCHEDULES BACK!
lzcutter replied to EagleMark's topic in General Discussions
Eagle Mark, According the Moderators (and as evidenced in this thread, the "Format" thread and various other threads in the Tech Forum), TCM is very aware of the dissatisfaction in the current presentation of the monthly schedule and how vocal posters and viewers have been about wanting the old format for the schedule back. According to the Moderators, TCM is working on restoring the three month schedule and making the current schedule more like the "classic" version that everyone loved and wants back. They have asked for a little patience on our part. The Mods have also asked that any problems, questions or requests about the Upgrade be directed to the Tech Forum (located below after the Film Festival Forum) and the thread "Problems with the Upgrade". That way they can track the problems in a more concise manner. -
*Mr. Osborne and the guy Ben's always riding around with in a convertible could come along as chaparones.* That would be TCM's own Tom Brown.

*FMC often seems to have exclusives on 20th Century Fox films like Mr. 880, Thieves' Highway, and I Wake Up Screaming, but in many cases I think it's just a matter of waiting before TCM shows them.* Fox (the studio) owns the FMC movie channel and programs films from their own film library to air on the channel. TCM has to rent all the films it shows. Since 2008, TCM and Fox worked together on the salute to *Ford at Fox* that ran on the channel that December (in conjunction with the Fox box set). Since then TCM has had a better relationship with Fox and Fox has been more open to renting films from its library to the channel.

*If I let Ben know how much I like All About Eve will I get my long-awaited date with him? I have to pass a skill-testing question first? Quote a line from All About Eve ? How about:* *"Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night !"* MsW, Concerning the date with Ben M, I suspect that MrsBen (Contessa Kellogg) may frown on that. They seem to be very happily married. Sorry.

New Format for Daily Schedule and Home Page etc.
lzcutter replied to arnie13's topic in General Discussions
*Don't work on it.* *Simply flip the BACK switch.* Considering how much of the overall website has been changed, flipping the BACK switch is likely not an option. We all hope that TCM Web is listening to our complaints and suggestions regarding the Schedule which has, by far, the most vocal group, followed by the Suggest a Movie fans. They say they are. Considering the time and effort involved in the upgrade, going back is likely not an option. But how TCM works with its fan base to improve the Schedule pages and "Suggest a Movie" as well as these message boards, is likely how TCM will move forward. So, giving TCM concrete examples of how they can improve not only the Schedule but the way you and everyone else interacts with the entire website would likely be very appreciated. Just a thought. I understand that people aren't happy and when you read the 11+ pages of this thread (plus the Tech forum threads), TCM Web has to be aware that people aren't happy. But at some point, can't we stop with the heaping on of meanness and madness and start concentrate on helping TCM Web fix the sections that matter to us most? Because the idea of week-end long ranting about subjects that have already been written about ad naseum and for some which TCM is currently working on, is just too scary and bone-weary to imagine. Edited by: lzcutter who will likely regret posting this -

From Renee aka TCMWebAdmin earlier this (Friday, March 11th) morning: Also, to remind everyone: -Suggest a Movie is coming back, we are working on it -3 Month schedule is coming back, we are working on it (currently it is 2 months) -We'll explore an "expand all" option for the Schedule -We are still working on some design of the Message Boards, so these will be improved over the next few weeks Changes of this magnitude do not happen overnight. Thanks everyone again for being patient through this process. -Renee -
*He was probably required to say something like that. It seems to be a TCM rule.* Fred, Scott is capable of making his own opinions. It's his favorite film and TCM does not need to tell him (or any other Guest Programmer) how to talk about it. But, you have opinions about the film as does Scott, as do many people here, myself included. You see the film in one light and Scott sees in a different light. That's one of the joys of film. You watch a film and form your own opinions about it. There is no "one way only" to view a film or the subtext of a film. Each viewer can, and often does, react differently to the same story. It doesn't make his opinion wrong. It just makes it different from yours. You don't have to agree with his opinion but you should respect it as he would respect yours.

*You'd key in the title in the database "search" field (currently at top right of the screen, same place as before, I think). Your movie would pop up. You'd click the title, and details about the film including the date and time it would be airing on TCM would appear.* MsW, There are air dates listed on the database film pages. The air dates are listed directly below the film title. ie: The Phenix Story Friday, April 29th at 10:00 am Only on TCM. http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title/414187/The-Phenix-City-Story/ Now, granted, it should indicate what time zone that air time is for as we all don't live in the EST time zone.

New Format for Daily Schedule and Home Page etc.

*lynn, thanks, but your suggestion (which I have checked out) is all very well, but it doesn't address the problem of just quickly checking out the date and time of the movie I want to see.* But in the old system wouldn't you have typed in the title in the search function (not the search function for the message boards but the search function on the banner) and that would have taken you to the database page for that film with the film listings in the right hand corner and the Remind Button directly below? That still works. You can type the film title in the new search function located in the upper right hand corner next to the banner. The default is set to Database. That will bring up the database page for a film and will have the upcoming times (if any) that the film is playing. But, it is missing the Remind Button. Which hopefully is coming back soon, very soon. -

*The old system, where I'd just key in the title, would have immediately told me the time and date.* *Please tell me they're fixing this, if only so I can unknot my panties.* MsW, From the sounds of things, you (and many others) should be to "unknot your panties". If you are referring to the "Remind Me" button on a film's database page, that problem has been posted here a few times and in the tech forum both under its own thread and in the *Problems with Upgrade" thread. From reading Renee's post from earlier this morning, it does look like the tech team has been made aware of the problem and working on it. The "Remind Me" button on the daily schedule is there but you have to press the "expand' button to the right of the film title to see it. It seems to only list the current time that the film is showing and not multiple showings (if there are multiple showings). That problem, too, has been raised in the "Problems with Upgrade thread" and the techs have been made aware of it. If you were talking about some other "Remind Me" button, my apologies in advance. -

*They certainly don't give a tinker's darn what loyal users of their site want, that's clear.* Spunky, You may not be aware but they certainly seem to as they are making changes (minor and major) to the upgrade every few hours. They are also working on a number of complaints/suggestions that posters have posted here and in the Tech Forum. They are working (as we speak) on a returning "Suggest a Movie". They are working (as we speak) on returning the 3-month schedule. As well as others. Check out the Tech Forum and read the posts from TCMWebAdmin (the moderators). In the meantime, any chance you could stop yelling at all of us? -
*Not meaning to stir this up again, but did you notice Robert O. again mentioning TCM's "film library"?* Yeah, but with at least three other threads already discussing this topic, does this thread really need to be hijacked as well?

New Format for Daily Schedule and Home Page etc.

*My biggest gripe(so far) is that once it hits Midnight, you can't even go to the previous day's schedule to see what's on from Midnight to the following morning's schedule which starts at 5 or 6am.* Soozin, Yes, you can go back to the previous day(s). Click on the day/month and choose March 10th:. It will take you to the schedule: http://www.tcm.com/schedule/index.html?tz=est&sdate=2011-03-10 It is set at the default for EST so you may have to set it for your time zone. (You can also access Wednesday's (march 9th) schedule as well. -
MsG, *The Missing* with Cate Blanchett and Tommy Lee Jones is a very effective play on the storyline of *The Searchers*. Blanchett and Jones are terrific. I saw the film a few weeks back on the Encore Western channel and was surprised at how good it is. It is one Ron Howard's most under-appreciated films.

*At 6:28 PM, I'm the only user who is not indicated as being "idle". Could that be right? What does "idle" mean?* A lot of posters keep TCM City open on one of their browser tabs. Many have multiple tabs open up with various web pages on them. You go "idle" when you stop posting after x amount of time. Some forget to log-out when they shut down their computers. Others leave the tab open while surfing other sites and refresh the message board home page when they return and stop being "idle". Still others will get into lengthy conversations either in threads or via PM and that can be seen as being "idle" by the software. Basically, the software recognizes that you are still logged in but you are not actively posting to the website.

Because it bears repeating: Here is the latest from TCM WebAdmin posted earlier this morning in the Tech Forum: Here is what I have so far from the technical team: -Suggest a Movie is coming back, we are working on it *-3 Month schedule is coming back, we are working on it (currently it is 2 months)* -We'll explore an expand all option for the Schedule -We are still working on some design of the Message Boards, so these will be improved over the next few weeks. -
*And yes while some are not the most inspired choices (that is just my opinion) I think there are a lot of great ones to balance it off. A few of them are premieres too.* K, I'm enjoying getting the chance to see and "meet" some of the people behind the channel. It's fun discovering that they love films as much as many here do. Robert O asks each of them why they chose the film they did. What I don't get is where is it written that everyone's favorite film has to be an obscure, rarely seen, or cult favorite film? They were each asked to choose the film that meant the most to them. Just because some of them chose films that may not be obscure enough or seen enough (to some) doesn't make their choices any less meaningful. The Employees are a lot like the posters here: a diverse group of movie lovers that have a wide range of tastes. I certainly prefer knowing that than discovering they were all a bunch of bean counters with no interest in film or film history.

Nan, The entire TCM website underwent a major upgrade on Wednesday. According to the Moderators, "Suggest a Movie" is currently being revamped and should return soon.
