IMDB doesn't even have a listing for this remake, but Box Office Mojo claims it's being produced by Fox, fast-tracked for a spot in 2008's busy summer.>> CK, You'll have to forgive me but I'm confused by your tone about the remake of "Earth". You started at least two threads earlier this winter about this particular remake. And now you have a post where it sounds like you are not sure if its being produced. Color me confused by your wording. Your other threads: http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/thread.jspa?messageID=8044060 http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/thread.jspa?messageID=8035491

I still have to swat down some silly women in Shinbone yet and I'm also watching a clock.>> Frankie, If I were you, I'd spend less time watching the clock and more time watching that backlog of movies you keep promising us "dames of Shinbone" that you are going to get to. That way you won't have to keep looking over your shoulder for those dangerous femmes. Unless, of course, you like looking for them.... Better have a a ton of cigarettes and enough whiskey to sink a ship on hand should those dangerous femmes catch up with you. May be the only way to placate them.

Well, this morning you could peruse YouTube and watch clips posted of Sunday evening's show including the montages. This evening many of them have been removed. Don't know if they will be back at some later date. Many of the In Memoriams from previous years are posted on YouTube so maybe? Thought it worth noting for all you YouTube fans out there.

Another one that comes to mind is Mr. Buddwing starring James Garner. Here's a link to movies featuring amnesiacs: http://www.imdb.com/keyword/amnesia/

The TCM Programming Challenge- Love Potion #9
lzcutter replied to lzcutter's topic in TCM Program Challenges Archive
Patful and all the Contestants, What wonderful Schedules. I do hope TCMProgrammr is lurking out there and making some mental notes because all of you have terrific schedules. If I remember correctly, Filmlover did say he would be entering. Is there anyone else out there wanting to try their hand at this? It's great fun, I swear. The deadline is still over a week away so it's not too late. -
Great, even directors like William Friedkin think Robert O works for AMC. I can see why TCM is concerned. Message was edited by: lzcutter because unwanted indentions make the sentences disappear.

Miss G, It is, indeed, Lorena that is on the music track when Ethan picks up Debbie and says "Let's go home". It is the moment that he realizes that despite all she has been through, she is Martha's daughter. He must see some trace of Martha in her face and eyes to have such a turn of heart. She's also possibly the daughter that he and Martha could have had if their lives had turned out differently years ago before Martha married Ethan's brother. Either way, because she is Martha's and she is his niece, he can't go through with killing her.

Something to keep in mind for future discussions about AMC and TCM. I know we the faithful know the difference and have a hard time understanding how anyone could confuse the two stations but the LA Times and others reported Robert Osborne at the Oscars as being a part of AMC. Now granted, they should all have fact checkers and should all know better. But, the fact is if the mistake is fairly common outside of the truly faithful, it makes sense why TCM is doing so much branding these days to raise awareness of the name of the channel.

We all love movies, that's one of the things that binds us here. I would like to get your take on the Power of Film. I believe it has the power to show us who we were and what we held important, what we believed in and why. I could pontificate at length (and probably have over the last year, LOL) but I would like to know: What do you think is the Power of Film?

Bio, If we're talking normal folk characterizations that were deserving of an Oscar at the top of my list is Greg Peck for To Kill a Mockingbird. He's just a small-town lawyer who does not even think twice about standing up and doing the right thing no matter what his neighbors or the rest of the town thinks. He does not shirk from the responsibility and by doing so teaches a valuable lesson not only to his children but to the rest of us as well. "Miss Jean Louis, stand up, you're daddy's passing".

Poltergeist - full screen version????
lzcutter replied to filmhistorian's topic in General Discussions
This happens every now and then. It means that the version provided to TCM by the studio or distribution company was the full-screen version and not the wide-screen. As we know from previous posts by TCMProgrammr, TCM always requests the film in the original aspect ratio as well as uncut. Mistakes happen. When this has happened in the past, TCMProgrammr usually lets us know that TCM will air the wide-screen version at a later date. It's not a conspiracy or anything of a nefarious nature. It just sometimes happens. If you do a search through the archives you will posts from TCMProgrammr that reflect what I wrote. -
Ford at Fox... and RKO, and MGM, and WB, and Columbia...
lzcutter replied to Film_Fatale's topic in Films and Filmmakers
I'll go with watching a film with someone you deeply care about as an enjoyable evening. I'm someone who gets intoxicated on people versus drinks.>> Well, Friendly Frankie, you better have some bourbon or whiskey around when those noir dames show up on your doorstep because they like to drink almost as much as they like to smoke. You do allow smoking in the house for them, don't you? They'll be very disappointed if you don't and I'm sure they would be good at doling out a punishment to you. -
GWTW Named All Time Favorite in Poll
lzcutter replied to MissGoddess's topic in Films and Filmmakers
I would imagine that many who auditioned for the part were breathing a sigh of relief when they started to hear the stories of the grueling hours shooting the movie, going through numerous writers, directors and having to deal with David O. Selznick. -
GWTW Named All Time Favorite in Poll
lzcutter replied to MissGoddess's topic in Films and Filmmakers
I wish Viv had concentrated more on films. She was made for celluloid, not the stage. I think that gap between GWTW and A Streetcar Named Desire could have been filled with so many, many more inspired performances had things been different.>> Ah, but she was married to Larry and Larry loved the stage much more than movies. Weren't they the Lunt and Fontaine of the London stage? -

Well, we are down to the final two weeks to get your schedules in. It's still not too late. So, if you're still sitting on the fence, jump on down and join the fun! -

Obsession and Ford films. What else? You're getting to be worse than the Goddess. I've been holding off and holding off on that Wayne/Ford box set yet you keep on pushing me and pushing me to my doom. I know one thing is probably for sure: She Wore a Yellow Ribbon cannot be any worse than Gone with the Wind. Talk about a CHORE>> Frankie, I'd stop worrying about your wounds as MissG (or is it BGirl) with the voodoo pins will be sure that you are always in pain. To get your mind off the pain, I suggest (rather than insist, because that just isn't polite) the following: Obsession You owe it to yourself to watch this one, esp. given how much you love Vertigo The Ford films- You can only put them off for so long before the other two ladies humiliate you into submission so I will wait patiently but you are missing some great movies by being so obstinate. The Professionals Lee Marvin and Burt Lancaster and one of your faves, Claudia Cardinale plus you get to hear Burt say "Hello Baby" in that great way he has. Point Blank Lee Marvin as a hit man with Angie Dickinson for you. She beats Lee with her purse. Eight Men Out John Sayles takes on the Chicago Black Sox story. Why? Because modern movies can be good too. Have you seen LA Confidential. You should. You'll love Kim Basinger. Really Frankie, there is nothing as good as spending an evening with a good film and a good drink. Enjoy! -
It should be noted that just because a film is in development does not insure that it will get made. Many scripts languish in what the biz refers to as development "hell" and never see the light of a projector or a television screen. Until it gets the green light to go into production I wouldn't give it much thought.

Would you pay to watch TCM online?
lzcutter replied to homebeingcaylargo's topic in General Discussions
I would definitely pay for an online "pay per view" that allowed me to choose from most of the films available to TCM when I want - or download them and record them on DVD-R.>> I think the first half, being available when you want has great possibilities and I can see in the not too distant future where it will come to pass. However, being able to download them AND record them to DVD-R will likely be trickier. Why? The studios would consider it piracy. So, unless the cost to download would be the equivalent to buying the DVD, I could see the studios copy-protecting the films so that once they are downloaded you can't record them to DVD-R. -

lzcutter replied to Film_Fatale's topic in Films and Filmmakers
one insists I watch Harvey... So, Frankie, have watched it yet? You'll feel much better after you do. And for the record, there are other films I insist you should watch as well. -
Has TCM ever aired this?>> Waldo, That Hamilton Woman has aired within the last month. In fact, I think it was part of Great Romances evening towards the end of January.
