Cinesage, Thanks so much for the clarification. I know that in the silent days it was the UA lot and Doug Fairbanks, Sr filmed Robin Hood there. The Robin Hood set was the largest set built in its day. I wasn't sure when it became the Warner Hollywood lot. I thought it had happened in the early 1970s before my arrival in Los Angeles but my memory is not what it used to be. I love hearing your stories by the way.

Cynthia, The Formosa Cafe is one of the great landmarks still standing in Hollywood. It is used as a location in one of my favorite films, LA Confidential. It has a great deal of history having opened in 1939. It was adjacent to the Warners Hollywood lot (perhaps it was the Goldwyn lot in 1939, I'm not sure but CinesageJr probably knows for sure.) Here's a couple of links: http://www.formosacafe.com/ http://www.seeing-stars.com/Dine2/Formosa.shtml

Bartlett, Given all the problems you are having with trying to post to this thread, perhaps it might be easier to start a Happy Birthday 111 thread?

Well, Kyle, I'm willing to wager you have left FrankGrimes a mere puddle on the floor after that tease. If I were a wagering gal (and you know I am), I'd say you better keep your eyes peeled for a shamus or the law to come sniffing around wanting to know what you know about the mysterious disappearance of Frank. I hope you cleaned that puddle up really good because there's a flat foot who patrols the streets of Los Angeles by the name of Friday, Joe Friday, who's not going to go away until he is satisfied he has gotten the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. There are a couple of shady characters around these parts who would love the opportunity to drop a nickel on you. They may send you to Quentin. Sugarpuss will wait for you, I'm sure. I hope they don't hang you by that great (apologies to J Huston) neck of yours. I'll start calling around and seeing if we can scrape the bread together to make your bail. Don't hold your breath. JackBurley is probably traveling and Filmlover is probably tied up with some noir dame and working on a novel. But, we'll try, I promise. Message was edited by: lzcutter

How cool it must have been to meet up with a TCM boardmember >> Mongo, It can be a great experience meeting up with TCM boardmembers. I have had the opportunity to meet about a four or five members in Southern California and Nevada and have had a blast doing so. I hope one of these days our paths will cross as well!

Why did Jungle Jim films disappear from November Schedule
lzcutter replied to tcmviewer's topic in General Discussions
There was likely some problem getting prints or licensing problems that didn't get worked out in time. Those are the two biggest usual suspects when a film gets pulled from the schedule. -
NYNana, The four hour documentary on the Rat Pack that you are looking was produced and aired on the A&E channel years ago. It should be available on the A&E website for purchase.

Chandler, If Fox has leased those movies to another channel then they are not available for TCM to lease. Another possibility (since i don't watch AMC) is that Fox may not lease Power's better known movies, preferring to keep them for their own FMC channel as Power is a big name draw. Fox is in control of most of Power's movies and so they control when and who shows those films.

I think the reason this forum is easiest to use right now is because it's the least cluttered. Adding a bunch of trivia threads to it isn't going to help matters. This forum is for discussing problems with the boards only.>> Patful, I think you have hit on part of the problem. The main forums, such as the General Discussions, has over 100,00 replies. Most of the other forums have between 20,000 - 40,000 replies. It may be that the board has reached critcal mass and some major cleaning out of old threads has to occur. Add to the mix that are no limits on picture sizes and external links to photos and that is probably adding to the havoc as well. Either way, I agree that this forum should be devoted to the problems we are all experiencing instead of trying to migrate threads down here to keep the games going. I keep hoping that someone at TCM will hear our cries and at least give us an update as to what is going on and when we might be able to expect it be fixed.

Phelps, At one time, TCM did own its own library that consisted of all RKO, pre-1986 MGM and pre-1949 WBros. However, when Ted Turner did the merger with Time-Warner at the turn of the century, the TCM library was part of the merge. The library is now owned by Time-Warner and under the care and handling of Warner Bros. TCMProgrammr posted here about a year ago that TCM has to rent all the films it shows.

TCM has to rent all the films it shows. Psycho is a Universal Studios picture and the rights are likely not available at this time (perhaps it has been leased to another channel for example) for TCM to show it.

It's hard to believe that a year has passed since this whole trouble with the board began. We had a major meltdown a year ago, one in the fall, one in the winter and now, we find ourselves in the same place we were in April when TCM Web stepped in to try and put a stop to all the chaos. The Code of Conduct was supposed to curb churlish and bad behavior but has done neither. The Ignore Function was finally instituted but does not keep posters from continuing to insult each other and other posters. The posters who come here to talk about their love of movies continues to atrophy on an almost daily basis. And still a year later, the lunatics seem to be in control of the asylum. Nothing has changed despite a Code of Conduct, moderators and an Ignore Function. Bad behavior is still not dealt with effectively. We as a community seem to be incapable of treating each other with respect and manners not to mention the fact that we are also incapable of getting along 24/7, 365 days a year. Which will come first? The good posters totally abandoning the board or TCM shutting the whole thing down? Because it sure seems like those are the only two options in the long run unless we can all agree that this message board is more important than petty rivalries, name calling, baiting, provoking one another and fights.

You really want me to see and hear Obsession, don't you, Lynn?>> Yes, I do. It's a good film and the score is one of Herrman's best. I believe it was the last score he composed.

>Diana, when I was a kid I used to watch The Monkees on Nick at Night.> Sugarpuss, I feel so old reading that sentence. I watched The Monkees in their original network run. Gads, where has the time gone?

If it helps, you can read the Code of Conduct here: http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/ann.jspa?annID=16 Again, people are trying to explain to you that you were not singled out by the moderator for your post about JFK and FDR and that you were likely the victim of an inadvertent delete by the moderator. This boards can be buggy at times, trust those that have been here a long time and have seen their posts deleted, had trouble logging in, had posts vanish before they could be posted because the poster timed out while composing the post, etc. People are also trying to give you the back history of how and why this board came to be moderated. Trust us, it was an ugly, ugly set of flame wars that brought us to where we are today. A moderated board means that posts can and will be deleted. Does the moderator catch them all? Not always, sometimes the board moves too fast to catch them all. It is not a perfect message board but if you can live with the bugs and the moderation, it is a good place to talk movies. Fred and Lawson, Did you guys even read the original post that started this thread? TCM is not planning a Black History Month schedule. (Besides, February is Oscar month on TCM and I doubt they are scrapping that salute any time soon since they have been saluting the Oscars almost since the beginning of the Channel). The original poster was only making suggestions should TCM decide in the future to have a series of films to commerate Martin Luther King, Jr day (which is in January and is not a bad idea). As for the rest of your comments, I agree with Chip and hope you guys both had your tongues firmly planted in your cheeks though it didn't come across that way.

From the sounds of the article, they are only in the talking stages. Will anything come of all the talking? Maybe, but then again maybe not. Many ideas never get past the talking stage.

SueSue, According to the latest biography on Gene Autry which basically concludes that he was a good guy, who worked hard and whom Richard Schickel reminded us Angelenos in his review last Sunday, did more than other star to put his money where his mouth was in preserving history (the Autry National Center for the West), Autry had a long affair with Gail Russell.

And for those interested in seeing RO when he was young, just published and on the Dinah Shore show with the likes of Shelley Winters and Olivia de Haviland: http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/thread.jspa?messageID=7863860 -
Filmlover, True or not, it's a great building and one that looks like it was built for a Hollywood mogul, star or as a bribe. Gotta love old Hollywood, when scandals were about love, sex, shootings, murder and all that jazz and not about check fraud, embezzlement or what movie just failed at the box office.
