Megg, We've had "White Christmas" twice since Thanksgiving (a TCM premiere that many here have been wanting for the last few years). Last Sunday, TCM aired "A Christmas Story". When I first started watching TCM back in the day, they used to run "A Christmas Story" three or four times on Christmas Eve. In addition to SPTO's list, TCM is airing: Oliver at 12:15 pm 12/23 (all times PST) All Mine to Give at 3:00 pm 12/23 Little Women (K.Hepburn version) at 5:00 pm 12/23 Holiday Affair at 1:30 am 12/25 Hope this helps round out your family's Holiday viewing choices!

To verify what was said about Sinatra, Lawford, Kennedy and Monroe I suggest you watch the movie "The Rat Pack" starring Ray Liotta as Sinatra.>> It was a made for cable movie produced by HBO. Like all movies, it is a combination of fact, fiction and dramatization. Just because the movie presented the story that way does not necessarily mean that it is accurate and the same goes for the dialogue. I saw the movie when it first aired on HBO and have to tell you, I don't remember that line. Doesn't mean it wasn't uttered in the movie. Also, doesn't mean that JFK actually said it either.

Caps, I suspect that they tried to use clips from films that they have leased and have available to use. Other films such as City Slickers or Die Hard, etc, they probably don't have on lease so they would have to pay by the second for the footage used in the clip and that can get pretty pricey very quickly, especially when you are on a budget. That's just a thought,

The good news is that Raygun has the last few years "TCM Remembers" (2003, 2004 and 2005) available for viewing on their website. While the 2006 is NOT (at least that I can see) available via their website yet, I would imagine it will join the others in a few weeks when it is not running as often on TCM.

Also, with all due respect, Liz--how do we know that all of these folks left because of the strife on the boards?>> Sandy, I don't know but the one thing they had in common is that they stopped posting in the months with the most strife: January, Feb, August, Sept and Oct. I believe that some of that was because of the troll but I was reluctant to include that because he is still here and posting under a new identity(s) and I didn't want to provoke him or give him cause to gloat. Thankfully, as you say, he seems to have reformed a bit and I pray it stays that way. As people do have other reasons for leaving, I mentioned earlier that if they were still here and only lurking or had come back with a new moniker to please post and let us know that they are still with us. I agree that this has been "the most war-torn time on these boards since I've been coming here" and I hope that 2007 will be a better year here for us all. I think we all enjoy gathering around the kitchen table, talking and sharing our thoughts and I would hate for that to change. Happy Holidays!

Wanted to let you guys know, on the off chance you didn't, that Chuck McCann made a small film back in the early 1970s called The Projectionist. It's the story of a projectionist who is bored with his own life and begins imagining he is "Captain Flash" a superhero. It didn't get a wide release when it first came out so many people don't know about it. It really is a sweet and charming movie with lots of send-ups to old films. I don't know if it's available on dvd or vhs but thought I would throw that out there!

Jack, The Aero is in Santa Monica. The American Cinematechique started alternating between the two venues over a year ago. This being LA, people don't like to drive all the way into Hollywood, so the AC is catering to the westside crowd by taking the movies there, it seems. Hopefully, it helps with donations. I believe the Aero is on Montana. It was built originally as a 24 hour theatre for the aircraft workers during WW2. From Cinema Treasures: The Aero has been showing movies since the mid 40's, when it was built for Donald Douglas. The Aero is located on Montana and 14th Street, on the north side of Santa Monica. On the south side of Santa Monica, Douglas had a large aircraft factory. The Aero's style is a little Art Deco. It seats between 500 to 600 people. In the late 90's, Robert Redford's Sundance Company and General Cinemas was going to start a new theatre chain for Independent films . The Aero was going to be part of this chain, along with a plex in Pasadena. But General Cinema going into bankruptcy and AMC going to but GCC. The plans for Sundance Theatres are on hold. For now the Aero is one of those great little neighborhood houses, we all grew up with in many cities in America. Remember to support the neighborhood house, they are just as rare, as the big palaces.

Hokey Smokes, Bullwinkle! Over the weekend, it was announed that Chris Hayward died last month. Who was Chris Hayward? Anyone who enjoyed Rocky J Squirrel and Bullwinkle the Moose is indebted to Chris Hayward. Without Hayward, there would be no Dudley Do-right. He was one of the writers at Jay Ward Studios that helped make "Rocky and Friends" the great show that many of us of a certain age remember fondly. From the LA Times: The first episode Hayward co-wrote for the flying squirrel and his sidekick with the dimwitted voice was "Rue Britannia," according to "The Moose That Roared" (2000), a history of the show. When the plot requires Bullwinkle to survive a week in the Abominable Manor in England, he says, "Shucks, I've been livin' in an abominable manner all my life!" The writers' revelry in wordplay extended to other segments that filled out the half-hour show: "Fractured Fairy Tales" and "Aesop and Son," irreverent sendups of classic stories and fables; "Peabody's Improbable History," in which a smart dog time-travels with a pet boy; and "Dudley Do-Right of the Royal Canadian Mounties," a goofily inept hero whose nemesis is Snidely Whiplash. "Half the people watching it were kids who weren't getting it. And the other half couldn't believe what they were watching. There was stuff going on that was positively hallucinogenic." When Hayward and Turner were asked to reinvent the Do-Right character, which had been around since the late 1940s, Ward gave minimal instruction. "It's about a stupid Mountie. Just have fun!" Hayward recalled in the book. The character's strong chin may have been a nod to Hayward's own, his wife said. The strangulated voice belonged to Bill Scott, who also voiced Bullwinkle. Reflecting Hayward's affection for old movies, the Do-Right episodes had a melodramatic style. Hayward's installments are distinguished by silent-film titles, including parodies of credits; one introduced Snidely Whiplash as being portrayed by "Madison A. Swill." For the Ward studio, Hayward thought up and co-wrote "Fractured Flickers," a silent-film spoof that premiered in 1963. The 26 half-hour episodes scrambled silent films into new tales by re-editing footage and adding dialogue. "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" became the story of a sappy cheerleader named Dinky Dunstan while "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" turned into a tale about soda pop. After leaving the studio, the new writing team wanted to do a show "about a family that was just plain weird" in reaction to the wholesome families that populated television at the time, Burns said. By the time "The Munsters" premiered on CBS in 1964, the idea had been twisted to showcase an everyday family of friendly, unassuming monsters. The Writers Guild of America intervened and eventually the pair received monetary compensation and credit for helping to develop "The Munsters," Burns said. For their work on the CBS sitcom "He & She," they received an Emmy in 1968. After writing for "Get Smart" (1965-70), the team split up. Burns went on to help create "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" in 1970. Hayward turned to "Barney Miller," an ABC series that satirized life in a precinct house and starred Hal Linden. When it premiered in 1975, The Times called it "the funniest new show since 'MASH,' " and pointed out that Hayward and his co-producer, Danny Arnold, had written almost every word. Rocky and Friends, Fractured Flickers, The Munsters and Barney Miller. Four great shows, one great writer.
