Kyle In Hollywood's CENSORED Poster Gallery
lzcutter replied to hlywdkjk's topic in Remembering Kyle in Hollywood
Wow not only is Tom Mix's head enormous but it is also floating in air without his body. Chalk another one up for smiley's disembodied list. -
Joe, Thanks for remembering cinematographer extraordinaire, James Wong Howe! Interesting that good friends Donald O'Connor and Peggy Ryan were born on the same day!

Letter to Three Wives: Sorry, I didn't get it
lzcutter replied to misswonderly3's topic in General Discussions
> But, don't you wonder why she left town anyway, if it wasn't with one of the three husbands I think she tried to entice each husband into leaving but was surprised that none of them really took the bait. So, instead of hanging around a social circle that would have known that she lost, so to speak, the better part of her narcissism meant she had to move on to greener pastures. But not before she took one more mean swipe at the three women who had befriended her and whom she thought she would blindside but instead gave them each a better understanding of the meaning of love. -
Letter to Three Wives: Sorry, I didn't get it
lzcutter replied to misswonderly3's topic in General Discussions
********************SPOILERS********************************* I don't think Addie ran off with any of the husbands. Brad was delayed in getting back that night but he would be there on Sunday. He warned Deborah that he might be delayed overnight and not to be surprised if he was. Porter thought about it and then realized he loved Laura Mae. George never really had second thoughts. The tipping of the glass and Addie's more melancholy "heigh ho" instead of her usual exuberance voice over delivery point in that direction. Edited by: lzcutter for more thoughts -
Just thought it warranted saying (after two posts that have nothing to do with the thread): This is not a thread about TCM programming. This is a thread dedicated to the upcoming Programming CHALLENGE. The TCM Programming CHALLENGE is not connected in any way with TCM (nor endorsed by them), the programming staff does check out the entries and does use ideas. This was started about five years ago by Path40a to give participants an idea of what the actually programming staff goes through when putting together a monthly schedule. For the CHALLENGE, participants only have to program a week, not a month. LonesomePolecat won the previous Challenge and with that came the honor of moderating the next one. He started this thread to let those who regularly participate in and those who might be interested in participating in participating that the next CHALLENGE is coming up. So, if posters are interested in participating, this is the place to let LP know. Mike, you have a couple of threads already started about your dissatisfaction on the programming of the channel. Since you have a hard time finding your previous threads, I'll help you out: http://forums.tcm.com/thread.jspa?threadID=161382&tstart=25 http://forums.tcm.com/thread.jspa?threadID=161360&tstart=25 http://forums.tcm.com/thread.jspa?threadID=161270&tstart=50 All three threads were started in the last week and a half and all are available to find on the second page of this forum.

> I don't have anything (soda, o.j.) to mix my alcohol with, but I guess I drank enuf last nite preparing for the storm. Depending on the alcohol, if it's vodka, gin or rum, you might try mixing a bit with the Ocean Spray. Not sure if it will work but might be worth a small tasting!

Hollywood legends on board for the TCM Cruise
lzcutter replied to lzcutter's topic in TCM Cruise General Discussion
> I haven't seen SPEEDY, but most of the other films have played on TCM many times and are available on DVD & video. Cat, *Speedy* is being shown with live musical accompaniment by the Alloy Orchestra. Having seen *Metropolis* with the Alloy Orchestra and *The Cameraman* with the wonderful Vince G and the Nighthawks, there is nothing quite like seeing a silent film with a live music. Really is different from seeing a film on television. -

1930'S CHILD STAR SYBIL JASON HAS PASSED AWAY

> Back in the 30s and 40s no one (even the race being "targeted") would of objected. They objected but because they were minorities many of the objections were not taken seriously. Also, the overt racism was part of a larger problem that would take another thirty years (or more) to overcome.

Kyle In Hollywood's CENSORED Poster Gallery
lzcutter replied to hlywdkjk's topic in Remembering Kyle in Hollywood
Chief, So, if Tim McCoy pulls back the screen it will stop being yellow sunshine and turn dark and be in night? The poster intrigues me, that's for sure! Shirley Grey looks like she wants to be anywhere except listening to Buck Jones yammer. > And for those that weren't interested, the month is almost over. September 1st is a week away. WHAAAA-AAAAAHHHHH ! -
Thanks to Mr. Turner, who made this all possible
lzcutter replied to VP19's topic in General Discussions
> what has kept TCM from selling out to a big corporation TCM is owned by a large corporation, Time Warner. The good news in all of this is that Time Warner understands what a jewel they have in TCM and, unlike other big corporations, they choose to protect that jewel rather than trash it. The staff of TCM is just as dedicated to keeping TCM the channel we all love. -
Thanks to Mr. Turner, who made this all possible
lzcutter replied to VP19's topic in General Discussions
> You say he's no longer involved with the channel, VP19? How so? When Ted Turner merged his media empire with Time Warner-AOL back in the mid-1990s, his media empire (TNT, TBS, CNN, TCM, Cartoon Network, etc) was part of that merger. As part of that merger, Turner stepped away from managing that empire, as well, but many of the employees who started with the channel are still there. Turner's media empire is now part of Time-Warner and the former Turner Film Library is part of Warner Brothers Home Video (but belongs to parent company, Time Warner). -

Hollywood legends on board for the TCM Cruise
lzcutter replied to lzcutter's topic in TCM Cruise General Discussion
> I will be disappointed if they don't bring more celebs associated with the films they are screening. If this is similar to the Film Festival, TCM is just getting started with the announcements. While the cruise is still four months away (and counting), that doesn't mean that they are done lining up stars to talk about the films they are showing or participating in panel discussions. The announcements may go down to the wire (as they tend to do with the Film Festival), but I bet they have only gotten started! -
> Not only could he play broad fast paced comedy in his earlier films, as well as his patented tough guys but he was also able to bring a tremendous sensitivity to some parts, such as Biff Grimes in THE STRAWBERRY BLONDE, as his character gentley entered middle age. Then, of course, there was WHITE HEAT, Cagney at his maniacal best but with the audience still feeling a curious kind of sympathy for him at the end. Tom, I totally agree with you about Cagney. In addition to his fast talking comedic roles and his dramatic roles, we shouldn't forget his dancing roles as well! Not only as George C. Cohan but also the fast talking Broadway producer singing and dancing with Ruby Keeler in *Footlight Parade*, among others.

Hollywood legends on board for the TCM Cruise
lzcutter replied to lzcutter's topic in TCM Cruise General Discussion
The cruise is currently sold out but here's some of the programs those sailing with Robert O and Ben M will get to enjoy: A special spotlight on HITCHCOCK BLONDES, including: *NORTH BY NORTHWEST* (1959) with Eva Marie Saint *THE BIRDS* (1963) with Tippi Hedren Plus a special discussion with Tippi Hedren and Eva Marie Saint sharing their memories of working with the legendary Alfred Hitchcock in some of his most memorable films. Sail to the Keys in style, and get in the mood with Bogie and Bacall at a screening of *KEY LARGO* (1948). Enjoy the romance of a poolside screening of one of the most memorable cinematic ship-board affairs, *AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER* (1957). Frolic with fellow attendees at *A NIGHT AT THE OPERA* (1935). Trust us, you won't want to get stuck in your stateroom during this! Hear the Alloy Orchestra perform their live, original score to the Harold Lloyd comedy, *SPEEDY* (1928). Spend time getting to know more about this Oscar-winning actor at *A CONVERSATION WITH ERNEST BORGNINE.* -
> give us a Joel McCrea month in 2012. Mrroberts, I had no idea when I originally started this thread that were so many Joel fans here at TCM City. I, too, hope to see Mr. McCrea as a Star of the Month in 2012. I believe it will happen!

Barb, This one's for you! -
> "It's a Wonderful Life," NBC has had for many years and continues to have (and for at least another five, if not ten years) the exclusive broadcast rights to this film. That's why you don't see it on TCM. As for *The Bishop's Wife* it aired twice during December last year. July was dedicated to singing cowboys and chock full of films from the 1930s and 1940s. As for Bogie, he just had a 24 hours of films shown earlier this week. Almost everyone being highlighted daily in *Summer Under the Stars* this month has films from the 1930s and 1940s being aired. Esther Williams was star of the month in May and they featured many of her musicals. I believe *An American in Paris* was shown last spring and Debbie Reynolds and Gene Kelly (and Donald O'Connor) were just on last night in *Singin' in the Rain*.
