Fred, It's not just modern films. John Ford films, the more you watch them, the deeper you realize the stories are. I've said before it's like pulling away the layers of an onion. Case in point, *The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance* and *Ft. Apache*. Each time I watch those films, I see thinks in the characters and the story than I have before. The same can be said for many classic films not just Ford films.

> Has ANYONE ever seen it? There's a short segment of it in a German documentary on Wilder. The doc shows up on TCM from time to time.

> Based on your experiences, there certainly is truth to your theory, especially depending on what era somebody grew up in. However, to generalize that most of us were "lonely children sitting in dark rooms" wouldn't necessarily be accurate, certainly, not in the pre-TV days. Mark, I agree with what you've written. I grew up in the 1960s and fell in love with what then were called "old movies". My parents both worked but we had babysitters because I had a younger brother and those women weren't always easy to talk into letting me stay up late. I would stay up late at night (when I could get away with it) to watch those classics, fake being sick to stay home to watch one I really wanted to see because I really liked those movies and there were no VCRs, video tape or DVDs or DVRs. I wasn't a "lonely sitting in dark rooms" but watching because these movies captured my imagination. There were times, usually on weekends, when my dad and I would stay up late and watch the movies together, especially if it was a western. I carry that love of "old" movies with me to this day and now it encompasses movies from all decades not just the "old" ones. But, like you, I'm sure that others growing up may have had different experiences. But in the end, those experiences made us love the movies even more.

Bonne, Earlier this month, TCM announced that Robert O was taking some time off (his first in 17 years). He had minor surgery, is doing fine and after recuperating will take a vacation. He will return to TCM in Oct. He had already filmed the wraparounds for the *Arab Images in Film* as well as *The Essentials* so that is why he was on seen on the channel on Tuesday and Thursday evenings as well as Saturday evenings with Alec Baldwin. Robert Wagner, Jane Powell and Tippi Hedren served as guest hosts the last three weeks. Beginning Monday, Ben M has graciously stepped up and will be the evening/nightly host for the annual on-air festival, *Summer Under the Stars*. There has been no announcement yet about who the guest hosts will be in September. For more information, here's a link to the thread in General Discussions (this is the forum for any questions about the Film Festival): http://forums.tcm.com/thread.jspa?threadID=160702&tstart=0&messageID=8538114#8538114

> Okay. Duh. Still don't know what he's asking. He went to the theatre & heard a song in a movie & wants to know what song it is? Could you be more specific? No, he went to the movies and it sounds like he saw the promo that TCM created for *Summer Under the Stars*. It's been playing on the channel and sometimes, those promos are run in movie theaters as well. The OP wants to know the name of the song that is played during the promo. At least, I think that's what he is asking about.

> What's SUtS? The annual August on-air festival, *Summer Under the Stars*. Each day, a different star is highlighted with 24 hours of programming.

> How does one access any of the October schedule, let alone the all of it some people appear to have access to? Skimpole, The schedule is still under construction (so to speak). The OP found it with only about 20% of the schedule posted. Shortly after that, it was replaced with the zombie page. Some have been using actor's names to try and fill out the things we know about the October schedule- that horror films will be on the schedule because of Halloween and that Buster Keaton is the Star of the Month. The full October schedule will probably be posted in the coming days. As always, a little patience is usually the best way to deal with it.

You should probably also check your DVR. With Comcast, if you have 85% or more of the DVR filled up, the schedule on the television starts populating with To Be Announced listings. With Comcast, if this happens, you either have to delete some stuff on the DVR or call customer service and they will reset your DVR and that should clear up the problem but they will tell you not to fill your DVR up so much. Just a thought.

Tough One: Meatpacking Plant From Gun Crazy

> The notes section from the AFI catalog has "Portions of the film were shot on location in Montrose and Reseda, CA, and at the Angeles Crest Highway." For what it's worth. Reseda is in the San Fernando Valley while Montrose is part of the San Gabriel Valley (they aren't near each other). Montrose is closer to the Angeles Crest Highway but there were no meat packing or processing plants in either Reseda, Montrose or on the Angeles Crest Highway back in the day. The San Fernando Valley was home to agriculture and after the war went on a major building spree becoming home to millions. The city of Vernon, however, was home to Farmer John's and other meat packing and processing plants. -
> I just wonder if this "Rave" preview is the kind of event the new management of Grauman's is planning to promote in the future. Yikes. Hopefully not. According to news reports, it was Grauman's personnel who called the cops when they saw the crowd was growing bigger. The DJ was supposed to be playing to a private premiere party but earlier in the day, he tweeted to his followers that he would be at the *Electric Daisy* premiere and suggested they all come for a big block party. He says he was surprised so many showed up. The LAPD is not happy by most accounts.

> This needless attack on her is beyond the pale. Welcome to the current day TCM Message boards where certain posters are more interested in writing outlandish statements written to get a rise out of others than talking about the films, stars, directors, TCM, etc with regard to any one else's feelings.

> In fact it looks like beginning in August the whole Saturday matinee feel will be swept away. Ginger, August is the annual *Summer Under the Stars* festival where each day a different star is highlighted for 24 hours. I believe the serials return to the schedule in September.

> And where is that? Swithin lives on the Upper West Side in NYC (see his post below) and wrote this a few posts past that one: "Ms. Powell lives across the street from me, and I see her in the neighborhood sometimes."

> Looks like it was shot in Southern California, with the Albuquerque sign added to the building. The exteriors were probably shot down in Vernon, a city not that far from downtown Los Angeles. Farmer John and other meat processing plants were located in Vernon back in the day. -
> What about a TCM Film festival Honoring him! Brian, He was just honored as Star of the Month last December. It was his second time being so honored.

One thing to keep in mind about the guest hosts, they are here because they want to help Robert O and TCM during Robert O's hiatus. They have stepped in without much notice (at least the initial three). Doing a week's worth of wraparounds is not easy, even if it is over a two or more days. It's being away from home, away from a daily routine, away from family and friends. It's a lot of text to remember and if you aren't used to reading off a teleprompter, it can be a bit intimidating. Some have been away from the cameras and others are better talking to fans in a ballroom than talking into a camera with just the TCM crew in attendance. Anyone who saw Mickey Rooney talking to Robert O during his interview at the TCM Film Festival (it was telecast), knows that Mickey isn't in the best of health and is not always easy to keep on point. As to why they don't talk more about the behind-the-scenes of the movies they are introducing, many have said, both on the record and during their *Private Screenings* interviews, they aren't comfortable talking about what happened on movies they weren't in or weren't on the set to witness. They are pinch hitting for Robert O because they are his friends and they are friends of the channel. Some, like Jane Powell, have been retired for many years. But she answered the call and flew down to Atlanta (without much notice if Sansfin is right, and I believe her post about it is pretty on point) to guest host a week because she cares about Robert O and TCM. The least we can do is recognize that these guest hosts have aged and that there is a big difference from sitting down with Robert O and answering questions that you know you will be asked and trying to fill Robert O's shoes while he gets his strength back. They are being gracious in taking the time to do so. At the very least, we can try to be as gracious in return.
