Well, I discovered Eve and Jane Russell both worked for Playtex in the 50s. But I would have been too young to remember TV commercials from then. So if she did make any, it was probably in the 60s. Anyway, sorry to interrupt your thread.

What was the musical instrument used in Spellbound which created an eerie sound and was used to suggest psychosis?

I remember Jane Russell's ads. I seem to remember Eve, not modelling, but coming into the scene and commenting on the person's bra. I guess I will have to check this out now. Between this and Buster Crabbe's body-shirts ...

Sylvia Sidney. There is a thread in here called "who am I" or something like that. Maybe we should find it and revive it, and let this thread continue for general trivia.

Didn't Ms. Arden advertise for some bra company on TV? Was it the "Cross-your-heart" brand? I can't recall.

>Soda pop Soda pop has been banned because "pop" implies a masculine bias, i.e., "mom" and "pop." OK, just kidding on that one. I wonder if "soda jerk" is also banned.

Yes, tapes definitely degrade over time. I rescued some of mine by transferring them to DVD before they were totally gone. Also, videotapes occasionally get tangled in the recording/playback heads, and build up residue on these heads, which require frequent cleaning. One disadvantage to DVDs is that if you record them on your machine, you may have to "finish" them in order to play them on another machine. You can still erase a "finished" DVD later (at least, with some types of DVDs) but you lose disk space when you erase a "finished" DVD.

>I didn't expect such stupidity from the crew in here. Especially when knowing TCM's "Asian Images" event is coming next month. Kyle, I plead stupid, if that means banning certain images of Asians is also stupid. Many of those banned "sterotypes" are accurate. I have experience working with Asian students and teachers, and I must say, at least in the science/mathematics field, they clean our clocks. They are great scholars and hard workers. Having served on university search committees for mathematics positions, I can tell you the overwhelming majority of applicants are Asians. They are not, in any way, genetically superior to any other race. They simply value education more than we do. I have seen Japanese classrooms. When the lesson begins, the students (in uniforms) bow in unison, and say "teach us." The Chinese school year is longer than ours, they have larger classrooms, virtually no discipline problems, and students typically don't get home until 4 or 5 in the evening. Students from Singapore routinely beat out our students, and plenty of other countries, in mathematics on international tests. Their programs are so successful that "Singapore Mathematics" is being adopted by many places in the U.S. What I find incredibly stupid is NOT being allowed to show Asians as scholars. Rich

>That is really insane. Too many "special interest groups". It's why I can't consider myself a liberal AS DEFINED TODAY. I am absolutely a liberal, meaning "free thinker". But not the way it is politically described today. Good point, Mick. Though I am conservative, I have "liberal" ideas on many things. I believe, for instance, that school choice is a "liberal" idea, because it allows for parents to decide what is best for their children, rather than the state. I believe that people should have the choice to invest their social security in any way they see fit, rather than be restricted to only one plan, run by an incompetent goverment. Maybe that makes me more of a "libertarian."

It's about modern-day Satan worshippers. Christopher Lee is the big name in it. It's black and white, and actually quite chilling.

And now I am turning in before Fred encourages me to find even more pictures.

>WHO exactly is banning this stuff? Mick, as I take time out from my artwork, I can tell you that in some (and probably many) universities, researchers must be very careful what they write, and are given guidebooks as to what terms are acceptable and what terms are not. There are also publishing companies that act the same way. I know because I've dealt with the problem at the university level and the publishing level.

This is a good thread for ideas to pop up and people to pop off. By the way, where is the "East of Eden" thread?
-
Well, Edwina Booth wasn't in it anyway ...
-
So did anybody watch that "Gorillas Gone Wild" movie with Frank Buck?
-
Yo Mick, are you trying to start an argument? Oh ... right ....
