  1. Maybe you should watch The Tunnel again. I saw Khartoum long ago on regular TV. I seem to remember a lack of action. I also remember that I was halfway through the film before I realized what role Olivier was playing.
  2. >thou shall not Actually, it's thou _shalt_ not ... heh heh
  3. I loved Martin's narration throughout. He's driving along, thinking about Rachel Ward, and saying "I hadn't seen a body like that since I'd solve the case of the dead girl with the big ___"
  4. I agree on The Best Years of Our Lives, by Hugo Friedhofer. It may be my favorite, although it's hard to choose one. I enjoy Bernard Herrmann's North by Northwest, Miklos Rozsa's Ben-Hur Erich Wolfgang Korngold's Adventures of Robin Hood Elmer Bernstein's The Great Escape Alex North's Spartacus Alfred Newman's How The West Was Won Dimitri Tiomkin's Lost Horizon and the list goes on ... Oh, did I mention I collect old soundtracks?
  5. >That piece from The Man Who Knew Too Much That's known as "Storm Clouds" or "Storm Cloud Cantata," written by Arthur Benjamin. It was used in the original film and remake. Bernard Herrmann conducts it in the remake.
  6. I hadn't seen this film in years, so I recorded it this morning. As I watched, more and more came back to me. This is quite a good film. While depressing at the start, it builds slowly and steadily to an uplifting climax. Spencer Tracy, who I regard as the greatest actor of all time (mainly because he never seems to be "acting"), is wonderful as one of seven escapees from a German concentration camp in the 1930s. The prison commander, played by George Zucco, promises to capture them all and hang them on crosses in the camp. Six escapees are hunted down one by one. A most interesting aspect of the film is Ray Collin's narration throughout. He is the first escapee caught and killed, yet his voice is heard from the beginning until the end of the film. The cast also includes Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy (looking lovely), playing a married couple who help Tracy during his escape. In a small part, you can catch Hugh Beaumont as a truck driver. In an even smaller part, you can spot Robert (Bobby) Blake as one of the German youngsters searching for Tracy. Catch this one the next time it's on.
  7. The Young Don't Cry wasn't bad. It took me a few minutes to recognize Naish as the sheriff ... he seemed taller than usual, but maybe everyone else in the cast was shorter than usual. Sal Mineo is always worth watching - he must have been around 18 when he did this film. James Whitmore is always good too. It's probably not a film I would watch again, but it was a decent time-killer.
  8. This must be the film: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0450052/
  9. I saw it when it was first released, and a few times since. It was fun, especially seeing the old stars in clips. I was impressed with Rachel Ward's ability to suck bullets out of Steve Martin's shoulder. I always had a feeling Martin would try a sequel, but maybe the film didn't do so well at the box office.
  10. The Careless Years was ok, nothing much new there. Dean Stockwell looked a little creepy with his thick eyebrows. I kept expecting him to turn into a werewolf. I've seen Natalie Trundy in movies from the 70s, so it was interesting to see her as a teen. The dialogue was typical 50s ... kids wanting to "be together," but we all know what that means. At least John Larch finally says "bed" when he confronts Stockwell. I think Larch, an underrated actor, was the best part of the film. The other parents (including Mrs. Cleaver) were rather annoying.
  11. FF, thanks for the info on How The West Was Won, one of my favorites. I would be very interested in learning how the technicians removed those "lines," something that always bugged me when I watched the film.
  12. I agree with your statement. I just don't feel having those characters get married would have been realistic.
  13. >the scene with the eye on the shoulder was used in Army of Darkness Did the extra eye help the army see in the darkness?
  14. Welcome TJ. One method is to click on the *Schedule* at the top of this page, then enter the name of the film in the search field. If the movie is going to be shown within the next few months, it will tell you. But you can't search a year ahead.
  15. >According to IMDb it was on MST (not sure which year). You're right, I just checked my MST3K Amazing Colossal Episode Guide. It was shown during Season 5, show #522.
