Good list. Are there supposed to be exactly 31?

Maybe the makeup/lighting/photography etc. just improved in the 1940s so everybody looked better.

Bio47, Jack Lemmon played Ensign Pulver in "Mister Roberts." Henry Fonda played Mister Roberts.
Also, Jane Fonda did not play "Klute," it was Donald Sutherland.
-
"The Lion in Winter." The only thing that kept me awake through this was everyone shouting at each other.

Jack, before I watched the movie, I checked the credits on the TCM website and noticed Reeves was supposed to be playing a "wounded messenger," so I watched for him ... and even then, I wasn't sure it was him at first, because he sounded like a New York street thug! That movie had a HUGE cast, with some old-timers like Nils Asther and Karen Morley in small roles, but I missed them. But I did manage to spot (and hear) Tom Browne Henry, who later played in just about every sci-fi movie in the 50s, usually as a military official. Very entertaining movie ... silly, but entertaining.

J;
You may have better luck if you post this in the "Information Please" forum. Also, if you can give us an idea when you saw it (year), that would help.
Welcome to the boards.

CineMaven, as long as we keep bringing up Hedy Lamarr in this thread, did you (or Fred or anyone else) notice George Reeves in SAMSON AND DELILAH? It was hysterical.
And it is snowing pretty good here in CT too.

CineSage, that's why I listed the source, and thanks for the correction. The idea was to find some reason why the extra sequence may have been added.

Victor Mature as Samson (shirtless, long hair, and headband) reminded me of Stallone as Rambo (shirtless, long hair, headband). Does anyone think Stallone modeled his character after Mature?

Dug this up:
The Overture is a a second, shorter prelude and has what can only be described as a "don't censor me" narration mixed in. In 1946 both Duel and the Zanuck production Forever Amber got clobbered by the bluenoses for their promiscuous, unrepentant heroines. The opening music of Amber is sometimes marred by an added voiceover saying something like, "Being the story of a bad woman who paid for her sins!" The narration here in Duel reinforces the retribution idea, but goes on to distinguish the Walter Huston Sinkiller preacher character as an aberrant charlatan, of the kind that never fooled real Christians. Not only does this seem like total cowardice on Selznick's part (kissing up to the bible belt), but if 'real' Christians were never taken in by Sinkiller types, the narration identifies Duel in the Sun's only devout character, Lillian Gish's Lulu Belle, as un-Christian.

You're welcome.

Second from top is Halliwell Hobbes, and below him is Forrester Harvey. Billy Bevan at bottom?

Are you a fan of the film THE WOMEN (1939)?
