You know, this thread is a good idea ... where we can all be silly, unlike the other threads where we are so deadly serious all the time.

I don't have a digital camcorder, otherwise it would probably be a cinch to upload the video .. of course, I would probably get sued by TCM. I wonder if there is a way to upload a snippet of a sound file? I can record some of the sound on my computer.

Geez, I hope the younger people on these boards don't come in here and ruin all our fun

-
I have no idea how to do it.

The way Hadley pronounced "burn" in that clip is very similar to the way he pronounced "virtue" in the movie. I think it's him. We have our smoking gun.

Any linguists out there? The narrator has an interesting way of finishing certain words. For instance, for the word "frontier," I would pronounce it as "frontear," but he says "fronteah," and he says "heah" for "here." His r's are almost silent at the end of words. He says "transgressa" instead of "transgressor." Hadley was born in Texas, Moss in Brooklyn, Miller in St. Louis. I am starting to lean heavily towards Hadley now.
I have no idea why this interests me, but it does.

I think it says tcm.com, so everyone will come here and enjoy these wonderful message boards

Bickford had a raspy-sounding voice, so I'm sure he wasn't the narrator. I am going to have to listen to the tape again,

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing

If you mean that Reed Hadley narrated the Overture of the alternate version, then we are in agreement.
-
Then how do you explain the other imdb entry http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0038499/alternateversions
that says Reed Hadley was the additional narrator in the alternate version?
There were definitely two narrators; one was Welles, and the other was not. Several of us heard the "other narrator" and we were not imagining it.

OK, thanks .. darn, could have sworn it was Moss.

Fred:
Here he is in a Star Trek Episode, playing a Shakespearean actor. I had trouble loading the video, but it eventually worked. Anyway, you will get a good sample of his voice.

I was thinking the same thing .. if I find a sound byte, I wil try to post it here. Have you ever heard his voice?
-
I listened and recorded it, and it still sounds like Arnold Moss. I think this was an add-on, after the initial release.
-
Yeah, that's a good one too cc!
