  1. Conspiracy Theory

I have a conspiracy notion that we have spies amongst us. There are people here who have been implanted from the Encore Channels, IFC and AMC who don?t like TCM or FMC because they show movies uncut and in Letterbox. Their mission is to complain every time TCM has movies on from the 60?s, 70?s and 80?s. They would be doing the same thing to FMC if they had a MSG. Board, why? Just look at all of the movies that are on FMC in Letterbox that are on the Encore channels and AMC in pan and scan. This infringes on their ratings and they don?t like it at all. After all, why would we watch a movie on their channel cut and in pan and scan when we can see it, record it for later viewing in wide screen on TCM or FMC? These spies would prefer that both TCM and FMC just go away.

Why is my conspiracy theory valid? In the case of TCM, they show the same percentage of films from the 30?s, 40?s and 50?s that they have always done but yet every time a movie shows up from the 1970?s or 80?s they jump in to complain. With FMC we get Cinemascope as it should be seen and not as Encore or AMC wants us to see it, they want TCM and FMC to be gone and they know that if TCM followed their suggestions (having only their notion of classic movies on) TCM would be history.

Yes there are spies amongst us and they have a mission. Be afraid; be very afraid because they will destroy TCM if you let them.

  2. Edge of Outside was very enjoyable along with the films by John Cassavetes. These Independent Films not only bring new people to the channel, they also bring new people to this message board and that is refreshing to see. Those of you who are new here don't get discouraged by low brow insults by those who are lacking of any class at all. You will get use to the same half dozen posters that rant on about their opinions, just remember that they are only 6 out of 1000, so just keep things in perspective and enjoy all of the new programming that TCM is bringing to you.

  3. I got a few of the British UK films in there too so that made me happy. When I look at schedules for movie channels I look at the movies that are on and not themes, so whatever the theme may be I just pay no attention to. It is not important to me or most other viewers what theme movies are grouped under. But I understand that it helps add some fun for a programmer, just keep those Great Hal Roach Short Features coming.

  4. The future is in video content over the internet through a broadband connection and not with Television. The winners in this area will be cable companies and providers of content like CBS Inc. and Warner. You can already get a Showtime and Starz channel with a broadband connection. I think that Gene Roddenberry was right, there will be no television a hundred years from now because it is a passive medium that will be deemed a waste of time.

  5. My only question is where is the bandwidth capacity going to come from? The bill that Congress passed said that all broadcasters are to go digital not HD (so all analogue will be freed up to be used by police, rescue squads and fire departments).

  6. I have already recorded Apartment For Peggy (My sister is named Peggy) and the color is really good too. Here are July movies I will be recording off of FMC:

If she is a favorite of yours than she is worth getting FMC.

  10. I caught the one today before Cartoon Alley. Zasu Pitts & Mae Busch are tired of their boyfriends always taking them to Coney Island. Then they have to go again when they get splashed and meet new bows. Laurel & Hardy make a cameo appearance at the end and want to take them, where do they want to take them? Coney Island.

  11. If I had my own local TV station the way that Ted Turner had in the 80's with TBS, I would run old PBS Masterpiece Theatre shows from the 70's and 80's during the week along with a evening movie from the 60's and 70's that would have the same kind of class. After that I would have a Late Show with campy cult status for the night crowd. After the Late Show I would have 50's TV shows like Red Skeleton, Jack Benny and The Honey Mooners. Starting on Friday at 8:00pm I would have back to back Sci-Fi and Horror movies and TV shows. Then on Sunday I would have Family stuff like G rated movies.

  12. Intimate Strangers (2004) is really good ( It was so good that I forgot that I was reading sub-titles) but I like French Films because of the high quality of plot and atmosphere. As far as Foreign films go I prefer that they be recent and not to old, but I like the old ones too. Foreign Movies are like Ice Cream for me, I like every flavor. I forgot to mention Jules et Jim which was good also by the way.

  13. I will be going with Dish Network because Comcast is out of the question (TCM is on basic analog with inferior sound and picture). After the 10 months is up it will cost $49.99 a month for the 180 line-up which seems fair for me. As far as outage goes, my neighbors with cable were out for two weeks after Gaston came through here a few years ago and my D*TV was still going strong, so rain is not an issue for me.

  15. Here is the deal that Comcast is offering me - $49.95 for 12 months, Basic & Digital with HBO & Starz. Dish is offering me their 180 line-up for $39.99 for 10 months. Cancel what ever you have now and go with what the other players in this game offer you.

You can only understand life by looking backwards but you have to live it going forwards. No wonder we humans are so mixed up.

  16. When I talked to that lady at Directv, she said; after two years why are you leaving us? You have been such a wonderful customer, we hate to see you go. I replied, Directv just stopped trying so I'm out of here. You have had plenty of time to offer the same movie channels that Dish and Comcast offers and you have not done it. I want to spend only $40.00 a month and get TCM, all of the Encore theme channels, TMC West TMC Extra and FMC. She said, we realize that you have other options for your programming choices and if you ever want to come back you are welcome.

    Good but September is better.

  18. I think that your September Schedule is the best that I have seen for some time. I know that it is hard to satisfy everyone's tastes in movies but for me you have done just that. Plenty of oldies, plenty of Imports and plenty of recent films. As Spock said, "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few". So just split it up the way that you are doing, with the mix that you are selecting, and you will stay on that even keel.

  19. I live in Virginia where you either have severe drought or God is talking to you with amazing thunder storms with two inch an hour rain falls. For this reason I can forget about any signal during those God Speak Seasons.

Corporations like these mainly are concerned about their share holders and stocks, not about us and the service they provide. I see no reason why we should feel loyalty towards them in any way. We should change and pick them on an alternating basis, so that we get the best of them and they don't get the best of us.

  20. You have to learn to play their game against them in order to stay on top. I have had DirecTV for two years and after June 21st they are moving Fox Movie Channel over to Total Choice Plus. Why? So that I will have to pay $5.00 more a month for channels that I will never watch.I called them up today to cancel my service, and I am switching to Dish Network so that I can get a better deal. For $39.99 a month for 10 months I will get all of the Encore channels, TMC Xtra West, TMC West and FMC. Turner Classic Movies is a basic movie channel so it comes with all of the basic tiers from every provider. I enjoy movies from the 60's 70's and 80's along with Foreign films, so I want these other movie channels. Who ever gives me the best deal is the one who gets my $$$$.
