How to Draw a Bunny (2002) Sundance Channel Apr 10 01:30pm The story of the life of artist Ray Johnson is cloaked in mystery not only at the moment of his death, but also throughout a career that was difficult to know and to understand. As one of the seminal figures in the Pop Art era, Johnson is known as the founding father of mail art and as a collagist extraordinaire. But, overshadowed by those like Warhol who manipulated that world in a very dissimilar manner, he was also a reclusive and sometimes enigmatic figure who has been called New York's most famous unknown artist, but who challenged the commercial and critical establishment. Directors: John Walter, John W. Walter . Producers: Lianne Halfon, John Malkovich, Russell Smith, Russell J. Smith , Stephen Apicella, Rocky Collins, Andrew Moore, Andrew L. Moore , Kevin Foxe.

I for one am very delighted and pleased with all of the new and interesting films that have been on or sheduled for the next three months. This is just a sampling, there are many more films like pre-codes that are to many to list: This Happy Breed (1944) The Adventures of Tartu (1943) The Clairvoyant (1935) The Doctor?s Dilemma (1958) Cast a Dark Shadow (1955) Enchantment (1948) Vacation From Marriage (1945) The Entertainer (1960) The Alphabet Murders(1965) The Importance Of Being Earnest (1952) Hope and Glory (1987) Eye Of The Devil (1967) Young and Innocent (1937) The Scapegoat(1959) In Which We Serve (1942) Genevieve (1953) Murder At The Gallop (1963) If TCM doesn't do it who will. -
Most Influential 20th Century Director
nsallieharding replied to lzcutter's topic in General Discussions
Federico Fellini His film 8 ? influenced so many American directors such as Woody Allen and Terry Gilliam. The films explanation into it?s making, gives us an inside view of what goes on inside the directors mind. 81/2 explains how a film is a microcosm of chaotic episodes that make up the puzzle of disjointed pieces we are always trying to put together. When we reach the end we are still left with our doubts but like Fellini we silence out the critics noise and join in the precession of circus characters knowing that we are just one piece of the puzzle. Finis comes up on the screen, we go home and the film continues. -
// I could put together a week of programming but it would look very similar to those that have already been posted. // Do you really see that when you look at them? Because I was amazed on how they were so different, theme, studio, year and film wise. When I look at them I see how people have worked in their favorites which are unique and if we did a month instead of a week we would have had repeats also, I know I would have. Just to make a note, my favorites are films made between 1930 -35, 1953 -57 and 1960 - 70. The reason being that these are transition years for films, silent to sound, full frame to Widescreen and the end of the Hayes period.

The TCM Programming Challenge
nsallieharding replied to path40a's topic in TCM Program Challenges Archive
If everyone will take a look at the films that were chosen by those that have entered the TCM Challenge and the June schedule, you will notice that many of the films the challengers have picked out will be on in June. Films that have not been on in years or never before. Therefore all five who have entered are winners by getting some of their favorites on the schedule. If you have some favorite directors, actors or writers of films you would like to see on TCM you could make a weeks worth pf programming listing these films. Maybe some of them will show up and you can be a winner too. -
One important thing to remember is that during the ?Dead-Time? hours, channels do not get credit for viewer eyeballs anyway. I know this because several months ago I did the Nielson Ratings and for the time that I was recording to watch later I was not allowed to write in the dairy what channel I was watching or what program. I had to write in that I was watching pre-recorded (store purchased DVD?s and home recorded DVD's count as the same thing) material. This is the reason TCM shows foreign films and silent films during this time slot and why Cinemax airs classic films and why basic channels air paid programming. All of the Channels make sure that they put their best foot forward during the prime time slot making sure that their ratings remain at a certain level. Every channel cares about this, even PBS and the premium channels.

I have no way of being sure which release of Ran it was. There was a 1998 and a 2003 DVD release - all I know is that the one I have was restored because there is a demonstration on how it was and how it is now.

I'll be recording Throne of Blood (1957). I have Seven Samurai (1954) and Yojimbo (1961). I'm still waiting for someone to show Ikiru "Doomed"(1952). I have from IFC, Nora inu "Stray Dog"(1949), Warui yatsu hodo yoku nemuru "The Bad Sleep Well" (1960). Tengoku to jigoku "Heaven and Hell"(1963) from TMC, Kumonosu j? "Macbeth"(1957) from FMC and Ran (1985) which I copied from a DVD from Netflix. Akira Kurosawa is one of my favorites that I'm always on the look out for.

There will be a North Easter that comes in on April 5 - 11 that will knock your socks off - 18 inches of snow from Chicago, West Virginia, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York and ending in Maine. I'm really ignorant when it comes to the Mann pictures in June, so I will get an education.

Suggestion for improvement
nsallieharding replied to path40a's topic in PROBLEMS with the Message Boards
You can purchase an inexpensive theatre sound system at Bestbuy or Circuit City for around $80.00 which will improve the viewing experience immensely. I have four speakers connected to my stereo receiver and it improves the viewing of films making them so much more enjoyable. -
My DVD Recorder is getting ready for The Adventures of Tartu (1943) with Robert Donat. This is one of the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer British Studios Ltd. films but the UK version is 111 minutes long and this one is 103 minutes so I wonder what has been cut out. No matter I will take what I can get and enjoy.

The TCM Programming Challenge
nsallieharding replied to path40a's topic in TCM Program Challenges Archive
TCMProgrammer, your job is not in any danger because I will state unequivocally that it takes a lot of time and effort to program one week, much less "THREE MONTHS IN ADVANCE!" I do hope those that have been unhappy about past schedules will put something together to show what films they would like to see in one weeks programming and the themes that they would choose to fit these films.
