At My Wits End With the Programming
nsallieharding replied to gingerb's topic in Information, Please!
There are but only so many films made by Bette, Joan, Clark, Cary, and Marilyn that TCM has at their disposal. If TCM played them over and over again people would start complaining about movies repeating to much and we wouldn't want that to happen, now would we. Janurary, Febuary and March has a good mix of films that should satisfy all of their loyal viewers. Even Showtime Unlimited and Starz Super Pack gets interesting in Febuary, must be ratings season coming up. -
CARTOON ALLEY already recycling?
nsallieharding replied to SamTherapy's topic in General Discussions
What a shame, and that was the only thing I could see that I wanted to watch in April. Guess April is a wash-out if reruns of Cartoon Alley are happening. -
I can't find Threads at Netflix or BB, I'll keep looking thanks for the info. Here is the info on IMDB I found, and this film is not on VHS or DVD according to what I have found. Trivia for Threads (1984) (TV) * US television magnate Ted Turner wanted to air this film on TBS, his cable TV network, but couldn't find a sponsor. He decided to broadcast the film out of his own pocket. * While shooting the movie, the BBC got in trouble with local police when they detonated a large smoke bomb in order to simulate a nuclear explosion. Members of the public, who were not aware that a movie was being shot, panicked and thought that a real explosion had occurred. * Findings from the 1980 British Government exercise "Square Leg" were used as the basis for projecting the level of destruction and number of casualties in the movie. "Square Leg" was a government project that estimated what would happen in Britain in the event of an actual attack. It projected the mortality rate at 29 million, serious injuries at 7 million and short term survivors at 19 million. Message was edited by: allieharding

Since Fail-Safe is on now I will give it a mention. Also, it was mysterious that Sundance just had a short feature about "Game Theory," a great introduction to get in the mood for this films outcome. The short explained game theory with the classic example of two prisoners being told to admit to the same crime and they would be given a lighter sentence. Silence would be the better choice for both of them, while the second choice being the worse decision to make.

When I take that hour and a half drive up to Washington D.C. every other Week to see all the art galleries it's nice to see the Art of South Asia, The Art of Buddhism, American Art, Modern Art, Luxury Arts in Late Imperial China and Japanese paintings all in one place. I don't like my Art to be sequestered and chopped up. The same goes for the Art Form of Film. If the diffinition for classic means old for some, okay, but for me it doesn't. If I am moved by it than it is classic. I don't care who made it, where it was made or when it was made.

If I had to come back as someone else and it was a guy, it would be Jack Benny. If it was a woman then it would be Audrey Hepburn. Both of these people had class and didn't let fame go to their heads.

Time-delayed sound/voice on currently shoing movies
nsallieharding replied to A2xistguy's topic in General Discussions
When I was with Comcast, I had a problem with sound being louder on the left and weaker on the right and they said that they were installing new equipment. Whenever you state a problem please tell which provider you have so that anyone who has the same provider can respond. -

A film, book, or a piece of art is classic if it has: 1. A timeless message which still resonates. 2. Gives insight into the human condition, going beyond a one dimensional character type. 3. Portrays multi faceted complex subject matter which can be seen on more than one level.. 4. Draws upon history, sociology, psychology, philosophy, and or art and science to achieve the above stated goals. 5. You walk away feeling that you have been changed, enlightened or somehow removed beyond yourself from seeing, reading or seeing a work of art. The best classics are yet to be made should be concluding anaylisis.

The older films with bad prints look better when I DVD them and watch them on my computer with its LCD screen (the poor mans HDTV).

Changing of the online schedules! Please go back!
nsallieharding replied to overeasy's topic in General Discussions
I had saved the schedule up through March before they changed it, but I did not want to leave it up too long. I hate to tie up all that space. Message was edited by: allieharding -
Another person got his start in a teen horror film, Michael Landon, in "I was a Teenage Werewolf" (1957). Although this is not as good a film as The Blob, it gave Landon a push towards stardom also. In both instances these films put Steve Mcqueen and Michael Landon on the radar screen for more work and causing the telephone to ring with offers of more and better parts.

What books did he take with him when he went back to the future? I've always wondered what he would have taken with him to build a new society. Maybe: 1 Mechanical Engineering 2 World History 3 Chemistry What books did he take?
