Silent Sundays Redeems Itself
nsallieharding replied to TheManWhoCameBack's topic in General Discussions
I'm watching La Boheme now, what a great print, I know all of you will be pleased in the quality of this print TCM is showing. -
Lux, I switched from Comcast Cable 12 months ago and now I have DirecTV, but I use to record the music off of Comcast to my VCR then without any problem. Now I record XM music off of Directv to DVD all the time and I really enjoy it. Comcast could have installed Macrovision software to block any recording since I had them, if so then any hardware device with Macrovision reconizers installed will not record these music channels. Your DVR has it, thats why you can't use it but your VCR does not have it so it works. VCR's still have a use after all. I Hope someone who still has Comcast can explain and help your friend.

I don't think anyone was complaining about a logo as station identification like Fox Movie Channel does on the hour and half hour. It is what comes with permanent Logos, they end up being animated and stretching out to tell you what's on next and then they shrink the end credits of movies to advertise what's on tonight. BBCA's logo turns into a cloud blowing across the screen saying don't miss this show tomorrow. A logo cheapens a channel and makes it third rate. I don't care if TCM wants a Logo as Long as FMC stays pure since that is the channel I watch more often these days. As long as we have one channel that we can turn to and be able to watch a movie without our eye always dropping down to see a logo moving all around.

Here in Central Virginia, Comcast has three tiers for digital just like Dish Network, Digital, Digital Plus, and Digital Premier. Fox Movie Channel is on the Premier Tier with Encore, so in order to get FMC you have to also get and pay for the Encore channels, same as Dish Network. TCM was moved from Digital to the Basic analogue tier two years ago and so far it is still on the Basic tier. Directv has both FMC and TCM on Total Choice and they do not decouple the Encore channels from Starz. I hope they keep with this practice because I would not like to be forced to get Encore like the other providers make us do.

It all sounds like a mess to me. They are all going to end up shooting each other in the foot before it's all over with.

"Summer of 42" is a great film and the only reason I can think of why it is absent is because it is a reoccurring feature on HBOS. We know what bas---s Time Warner is so that may be the reason it is not included.
-
Mary, burn - in does happen, don't let anyone tell you different. The History Channel bug and the Discovery Channel bug has burned into Plasma and LCD screens and they will not pay compensation for the damage that they have done. You are better off having a cheap $200.00 TV for these channels, and never let anyone use your good TV for channels the use constant bugs.

That is the title, thank you, and I will check out the other films that you mentioned. I'm going to Netflix now to see if they have them.
-
I turned King Kong off also and put in one of the three DVD's I received today from Netflix! I can't stand CONSTANT BUGS! It does look just like the amc bug by the way. FMC is the last hold out and their bug is so big that it covers 1/4 of the screen so if they keep thier bug on all the time, WOW! I'm with you guys, my commitment to Directv ends in December and I'm going to make some changes, maybe up my Netflix to 8 out at a time. I know that I do not have to put up with bugs, thats for sure!

If you are using Firefox just go to View - Text Size and click on Increase. IE has something similar to this also I think.

I saw a Chinese film on IFC about a blind girl that gets treated poorly by her deceased mother's sister whom she had to live with. The boyfriend fakes a job to give her to get in good with the woman and things get real humorous as he and all his close friends try to trick her into thinking it's a real job. I don't remember the title of the movie but it was an enjoyable film from beginning to end. The Eye was another film that was also good. A horror movie about a girl who gets a transplant and starts seeing visions of the previous donor. She also starts seeing ghosts of people who have past on and those who have just died.

Mr. Magoo was the one I just had to see every Christmas, and I still can't pass it up when ever it comes on.

List your TOP TEN classic films of all time!
nsallieharding replied to DAP's topic in Your Favorites
Unfaithfully Yours (1948) The last film by Preston Sturges should be on everyones list and it is on FMC Nov 19 04:00pm and Nov 29 10:00am. What a wonderfully savage way to bow out for the 1940s best American director. -
I will be looking forward to seeing the NEW Cartoon Alley.
-
All of these cartoons were edited in 1995 by Turner, if you read the fine print it says Dubbed Version 1995. I wonder if the original uncut versions of these cartoon still survive, it would be interesting to find out. If they do than they should at least be made available to us on DVD from the TCM DVD section of this web site. As far as I know IFC is the only channel that is not a premium movie channel that is truly uncut and commercial free.

The boards were getting a little boring, lets have a little class - generation - gender warfare to pep it up. -
I'm looking forward to their Thanks Giving Widescreen films, there are about 10 that I want to record and watch. I like the fact that FMC airs many films from the 60's 70's and 80's, because my tastes in movies are not just limited to so called classics. I like all kinds of films, even Russ Meyers films are interesting and not what some people are calling them.
-
I'm a big fan of British films also, that's why I go to TCM UK Web Page on a regular basis to see what British films they are airing. So far every film I request TCMProgrammer says they can't get it here in the USA because the rights are owned here by someone else. Netflix doesn't have them either because most are not on DVD. I keep a list of all the films on the TCM UK site that I want to see and hopefully they will show up somewhere I guess.

Thanks for posting the article in Variety and giving us the web page address. As a fan of cult films, I am so excited to see cult films will be coming to TCM uncut and commercial free. This will make IFC get better too knowing that they will soon have competition. -
Just a reminder to Sci-Fi fans that "War of the Worlds" will be airing on November 11 on Cinemax and considering that they want $15.00 for the DVD, it is well worth picking up the channel for a few weeks just to DVD it.
