Wow, that's gotta be a loaded question, Rick. ;-)I'll see if I can give it a shot, though. I would have thought Gone with the Wind would have got more quotes, but I'm glad to see Casablanca got the most. Ater all is said and done, I still think Casablanca is my very favorite movie. 1. "Here's lookin' at you, kid." 2. "Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world she walks in to mine." 3. "We'll always have Paris." Those, I think, are the must haves. There are a couple more I'm unsure of. I would think they would NOT have Play it again, Sam. Or Play it Sam. Or any quote depicting that since this line has so often been misquoted. But who knows? I wish they'd have my personal favorite but I don't think so. After all, they couldn't put them all in there, with all the wonderful movies around. My personal favorite? Louie, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship. I love that line because I really like the relationship between Bogie and Rains. I love them both. Scarlett

Hi Rick! Partially right according to my sources. I get Knock on Wood,, As Time Goes By, and It Had to be You. I'm learning fast that it's important to post questions that have a definite answer I don't remember Sam singing a song called That's What Noah Done? But............that certainly doesn't mean anything . Did he sing the whole song..............or part of it? It certainly is possible that there could be 4 correct answers instead of 3. I never did ask if it was OK to just post trivia here, or if there was any set procedure or anything. Maybe now would be a good time to ask? :-) Scarlett

Trivia for the brain-weary and dumbfounded
katyscar11ett replied to CharlieT's topic in Games and Trivia
I answered this question on another thread, - Paul Fix has been in more John Wayne movies than anyone else. Although I thought the answer might be Duke, his horse. ^^ I guess I finally see the point of this thread - duh! I can not believe I was so stupid I said that I didn't know who was buried in Grant's tomb. LOL Although, in todays world it could be damn near anyone. ;-) Like I mentioned in another thread, I'm at home in bed, currently recovering from a bad pneumonia and I'm on Percacet and for anyone who doesn't know.........Percacet = no intelligence, at least for me. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. The other two answers are Waterloo Bridge and A Streetcar Named Desire Scarlett -
Yes, Twentieth Century with John Barrymore and Carole Lombard.

I appreciate the feed-back Rusty, TZ, Justine, et. al. When I got done posting here the other day, I couldn't sit still and wait..........I started reading internet message boards and a lot of technical stuff. I'd like to share with you what I found in 3-4 hours of research. It isn't pleaseant news. :-( 1) For various reasons, labels are not good to use. They can cause many problems, some immediate, some in time. 2) Techs do not advise using Sharpies or any other marking pens. Apparently, some companies, like Sharpie, have made a special line of CD/DVD pens that are safe to use. Anything esle can cause a lot of trouble, in time, for many different reasons. One of them includes the 'aluminum' in the disk, as someone mentioned. 3) The safest place to write on is the clear plastic space at the center of the DVD. 4) The very best thing to clean DVDs with is warm, soapy water. They recommend taking labels off that way. It does work very well. Soooo - I have spent much time washing my DVDs. The labels have come off reasonably well. One thing, though, if you're planning on doing this is to change the water after every 1 or 2 disks. Otherwise the glue will float in the water and adhere to the bottom side of the DVDs. I have taken the masking tape off my DVDs - I was going to do that anyway but certainly not as fast as I've done it. ^^ Then, after the DVDs are perfectly clean, I'm going to put them in my DVD wallets. Some of them will be filed by genre, some by actor, the year the movie came out, etc. For instance, I have a whole binder in which anything after 1960 is filed, this I call "New releases". LOL I am going to get a bunch of DVD Sharpies in various colors for various genres - then put the label on each little compartment each DVD gets put into. I will write the name and/or number on the clear, centre hold with a DVD Sharpie in the proper color. Then I will enter each name into a computer database. That is taking a lot of precautions - but my DVD collection is very important to me. I hope someone can benefit from the things I have learned about this topic. I know there are some movies I will have to re-record, and there is no use getting upset about it, I'll just have to do it and make the best of it. This is really frustrating, but there is nothing else to be done. At least I found out about it while most of my DVDs haven't been labeled yet. So, I took all the masking tape off and am trying to get on with it. For those people that have to do the same, I wish you good luck and keep your chin up. :-) Scarlett

I think this a real interesting subject, HGL3. Please let me know how it works out. Noticing some of your expressions - incomprehensible demoralization - and other phraseology, I'm wondering if you attended Wilson-Smith University, as I did. I'll keep trying to think of other movies, and continue to post as I come up with some. Scarlett

Trivia for the brain-weary and dumbfounded
katyscar11ett replied to CharlieT's topic in Games and Trivia
If this statement is meant exactly as written, then John Wayne is the answer. LOL "..........actor was in more John Wayne films than any other........" I'm sure I can't tell you who is buried in Grant's tomb, however. Scarlett -
I never did like this movie - although they do have a cute Roger Rabbit ride at Disneyland. My 5 year old son is VERY into cartoons, really shocked me the other night when he sat down and watched HOOK from beginning to end, without being told to. Anyway, my point is that he can't even watch Roger Rabbit for more than 5 minutes. As RC said, it's very boring. I'll be watching something else at that time, for certain. Scarlett

Mongo, do you know this movie? Or even if it exists. LOL When I was about 10 years old, I saw a movie that I always thought was a Bette Davis movie, but have never seen it again. I thought I finally had found it in A Stolen Life, but alas, that wasn't it. Unless she made 3 movies in which she was identical twins, which is highly doubtful. Now I'm wondering if I imagined the whole thing. :-O There is A Stolen Life, the movie with Karl Malden, and this one that I can't find the name of. I doubt if she played sisters in that many movies so I don't who this could have possibly been. I don't remember much about it other than the ending. There were identical twins, one was good and one was bad (of course). They were both in love with the same man, who was with the "good" girl. There was something about boats and water. (Hence, my connection with A Stolen Life). I think the bad girl was going to a shrink (or some kind of professional). Anyway, as near as I can remember, the bad girl had done something wrong (murder? I don't know). Anyway, her sister and a couple of other people, I think maybe the boyfriend/husband of the good girl, and a professional (doctor?) They let it be assumed that the good girl had drowned (I think it was drowned, died somehow) and the 2 guys went in to see the bad girl. I believe Bette was lying down on a couch or something. They told her her sister had died. Knowing that she wouldn't have to go to jail and would also get to keep the love interest, Bette pretended that it was the bad girl who drowned, not the good girl, and she was going to assume the identity of the good girl. After she made this decision, she sunk herself, because that proved "something". The good girl walks iinto the room and Bette realized what she had done. I sure hope I have this even partially right. Does anyone understand to what movie I am referring? I just keep looking for it, and never find it. I'd love to see it again, even though I don't remember much about it, it was a good movie. Thanks for your help, Mongo - and everyone.

Rusty, I'm sure gonna check those out. Thanks for the suggestion.

Just curious about your opinion - do you think Robert Osborne owns "a piece" of TCM?

There is a wonderful movie called Clean and Sober, starring Michael Keaton. They use it in treatment centers, it's that good. Something you might find interesting is that Stephen King might be in either AA or NA. That was kind of touched on in his biography on A&E. They said he had had a drug and alcohol problem, did not say how he 'beat it', only that he did beat it. That would be the 'anonymity' part of AA - being ambigious about it. The interesting thing is that he often, almost every book, mentions AA or NA. Some of his characters are in "the program"

Hi Larry - yes, I sure did get your message and thank you for responding. :-) Really interesting stuff. I'm going to email you again about it - but right now, I've got pneumonia and am taking Percocet so my mind has 'flown the coop' for now. I'm only on-line right now due to boredom. I posted a message on another thread and it took me half an hour to get it right. LOL Percocet sure doesn't leave you with much brain power - but thank God, it takes the pain away!

Correct answer, Matt. :-) What three songs did Sam sing in Casablanca? Scarlett
-
The answer is Danny Thomas. You know I can quite easily see Rod Steiger as The Godfather. He would have been a good choice. But Danny Thomas??? ^^ What 1956 film took place, in part, at a Phoenix **** tonk called The Blue Dragon Cafe?
-
You are right Matt - Charles Boyer, David Niven and Gig Young. And Mr. Wright, Gladys Cooper, indeed. What a show that must have been! :-) I was only a kid when it was on, and don't remember much about it, except that I loved it. For the next question, I'm going to ask something that I asked on another thread and so far nobody's answered it. Who was initially considered for the role of Don Vito Corleone in the The Godfather?. Have a great weekend, everyone!

Francis Ford Coppula is Nick Cage's uncle. :-)

Technical Issue - but not really -

Rusty, I think Yentil is worth watching - once. If it were me, I wouldn't bother to tape it, unless it was going to be taped over. But it's definitely worth watching. However, your taste could be totally unlike mine. -
Thanks for that info bmovielover, hard to believe I have and love this movie.^^ I pondered and pondered but could not remember for sure if we saw him or not.

I already KNOW that you don't yet offer Now Playing subscriptions to Canadian subscribers - but - can I get a US Now Playing guide sent to Canada? Scarlett

This isn't really technical but requires being read by someone at TCM. I posted it in another thread but I think that thread is going to soon be buried, so I'm reposting it here. ^^ I've been wondering for a long time, under the Daily Poll question, why there isn't an option that says "None of these". Sometimes it doesn't apply, but sometimes it does - like today's question about what 'else' Funny Girl should have won an Oscar for. And I don't think it should have won another Oscar. When questions like this come up, I don't vote for the question, BUT it's more than that. Not thinking it should have won an Oscar IS a vote. It shouldn't simply be discounted. I think people should be given the option of voting for "NO". I really would like to see this option added. Could someone at TCM pleae answer this. Thank you.

OMG - am I ever glad I read this thread. I have spent so much time, money and energy making my DVD collection. The first DVD recorder I got, Nov 2004, turned out to be a dud and went back to the dealer - and I got a new one that I like. One issue it had was that if I recorded something on LP, for instance, and didn't finalize the disk, when I went back to record something else, the disk would always screw up. I've spent a long time re-recording movies that I thought I already had - but didn't because of the darn DVDR. :-( I assumed that it was all the fault of the bad DVDR, but now I wonder if some of it was the labelling. I had NO idea that labels caused problems. And my collection looks SO beautiful. boo hoo hoo I've gone to different sites and got computer photos of the movie posters for the movies, sized them, and put them on computer labels, most of them look as nice as the real DVDs. So this really makes me sad. Why, oh why do companies make things that are not good for a product? Yes...........I know, the almighty $$$. These problems that you discussed here, freezing and skipping are 2 of my problems. There is another one, that I call "pixellating", I don't know what the pros call it, but that's my name for it. It's like "pixellated" in Mr. Deeds Goes to Town so I like the name. LOL. In computer lingo, all the tiny squares that go together to make a picture, are called pixels, so that's where I came up with the name. So, what it means is when you get little squares of the movie, kind of breaking up. Has anyone had this happen? It sometimes also happens during bad weather. Is there any way of removing the labels? Oh, sigh, what a job - but better than losing my movies! Right now, my re-recorded ones just have masking tape on them, with the name because I haven't had time to relabel them, obviously a blessing. Is there any special felt pens that one should/shouldn't use? To 'just', please find out from your dad if it matters. I sure don't want to use something that will also damage the DVD, like one person mentioned. Thanks. And thanks to everyone for all the information. I don't think I've had problems with the actual disks in spindels, of course I can't be sure, but the movies I have without labels but bought on spindels seem to work ok. I buy Memorex or Sony but prefer the Memorex. Scarlett
