Apparently - from what I've heard - Cesar is gay - and in his bio claims he and Ty Power had a big fling at one time. I don't believe him - I used to kinda like him and now dislike him intensely because I think he's a liar.
-
Thanks stoney - that article is much as I suspected - Spacey is denying being gay and there was no argument otherwise. I don't believe he is gay.
Before I get flamed, which I'm sure I will anyway, I want to point out that it's not whether or not someone is gay that I'm referring to here - it's the LIES that I believe are told.
TO EVERYONE - Don't you all think that most of this is speculation? Referring mostly to the dead actors/actresses. How are they going to prove otherwise? Someone can say anything they like about anyone after they're dead. I disbelieve 95% of the gay rumors I hear (maybe more). Just because someone is an actor does not mean they are gay or bi, like some people would have us believe. I do NOT believe that Barbara Stanwyck, Tyrone Power and many, many more - some who have even been discussed here - are gay. And Danny Kaye????????? Come on!
The only thing that Cesar Romero's biography (I haven't read it, just heard) did for me was make me despise Romero. He only WISHES that Tyrone Power would have looked at him "that" way. Unfortunately for old Brutus, Ty only had an eye for the women. I'd like to have seen Cesar spout that crap to Lana Turner!

No contest - RITA!

Great fun Matt. Thanks for posting this link.

Filmlover, so very well put. :-)

Filmlover, Totally Chosen by Me - very cute!
There might be something to a secret ballot, path, you gotta admit that the people who participated are some of the most loved people on this board - therefore it is kinda hard to chose one over the other. I think we pretty much know that they are all terrific people and wouldn't be upset - they even chose others themselves - but even so, it makes it harder.
After looking long and hard, back and forth, and taking many things into consideration and getting into a real mess - writing things down for each person, etc. etc. I finally decided to simply pick the week I think would be most enjoyable - and my vote goes to tzcutter . He Done Her Wrong and She Done Him Just as Bad - a hoot! That?s the Sound of Men Working on the Chain Gang (everybody sing) - can't do any better. And bless you for including Cool Hand Luke. Bob Fosse, Val Lewton, Somerset Maughan, Jack Carson, Eve Arden, Raoul Walsh - wonderful choices. Hattie McDaniel - long overdue. I love the viewer guest addition. That would be a really fun thing to do - and YOU should be the first guest. Raiders of the Lost Films - another great idea and Lost Horizon is the perfect touch. Hell, I just like everything you've done. I would get no sleep during your week.
With honorable mention to MattHelm , who I believe did a lot of "listening" to what people have been requesting on these boards - and that is the biggest problem that most of us have - that nobody seems to listen to our requests. I think Matt did an excellent job of including films and actors (especially Richard Widmark) that we have been wanting. As well as including some very authentic ideas of his own. Another wonderful week of films.
All in all, I'm blown away by all of the ideas and work of "our gang". Kudos to the tcmprogrammer to offering prizes for all of this work - it is really wonderful of TCM to acknowledge these people and their contributions. :-)

Do you KNOW how hard this is path? LOL Of course you do! I have read and re-read these schedules over and over and all have something wonderful to offer - I've even begun posts with my vote and then changed my mind. :-) So - I'm off to read them - again! These people did such a wonderful job. Every one of them - if only one stood heads above the rest, it would be so easy - but they are ALL fantastic. I'd have a wonderful week watching every one of them!

Kevin Spacey - gay??? Where did you read/hear that? Is it considered common knowledge?
-
Yep, my favorite year was 1939, as well. I guess there IS a good reason why it is considered the golden year.

RITA, takes my breath away. Every time I see her throw back her head in Gilda I think what a goddess she really was. Too bad Max Factor got at her lips - he sure ruined a good thing for a lot of actresses - all you could see coming was lips.
As a high-school girl I thought Ann-Margret was so beautiful, and I wanted to be like her so much, that I carried a photograph of her in my wallet.

Spencer - am I reading this wrong or did Robert Osborne pick Gigi as his number one pick for best picture? Please, tell me I'm not reading it correctly.
I won't give a list because I love too many movies - and who really cares about my top 10 anyway?! LOL But I will say that I agree with Maltin, Ebert and Siegel that Casablanca should have been number one.
-
JHaft, I, too, totally agree that everyone is entitled to their opinion - and mean that quite sincerely. How boring the world would be if we all liked the same thing/people. I try not to step on anyone's toes - and hopefully don't, too often. Thankfully our fellow posters have been very patient with me because I do admit to being opinionated - both about who I love and who I dislike. But - there's nothing wrong with a tasteful debate as long as it doesn't get into a heated argument. Welcome to the boards - I have a feeling you're going to be a fun addition. :-)
About Bobby Blake - he's another child actor that I do like - and I feel bad about his recent notoriety - personally I think he was innocent (but that's for another argument - errrrr, discussion) :-O
-
Ok - basically we only get ONE choice, of the dozens that we love. Only given one, I'd have to say Casablanca is the MOST essential of them all.
-
Thanks vallo, I appreciate your input - I really didn't get very far with that link though.
Pretty much what I'm gathering is that Angels isn't - because nobody said it was. And Falcon is - because the catch phrase came out around then and that's what people called it. LOL
No, I know it isn't that simple. Actually, like I said before I really do "usually" know a Film Noir when I see one but between these two particular movies, I really don't know why one "is" and the other "isn't". Maybe I should watch them both again?! :-)

Just cuz I can't stand to see Ronnie Howard knocked - I'll post just to say I think he's terrific; Oppie, Richie and Ron. JMHO
Of course, I like Ben Mankowietz, too, so some of you will just think I have no taste at all. *grin*

Well................you did say that this may turn into a debate. Actually, Im kidding. I have grown to like Paul Newman, although it did take me awhile, I reallly enjoy him now. My only debate is with the sentence "if you were to compare him to Steve McQueen to me there's no comparison" To me either - no comparison - McQueen all the way. ;-)

The REALLY bad new is that now that TCM has caught on that we do this, I don't think they are going to be posting their new incomplete schedules there anymore. We used to be able to look 4 and sometimes 5 months ahead - not anymore. Try July and you'll see what I mean. It's bare. I'm really sad about this cuz I loved looking ahead as much as possible - but it seems to me that we should be able to see at least part of July if they hadn't changed the way they are going to do things. :-(

Both Lana Turner and John Garfield in The Postman Always Rings Twice were very sexy.
And I know I'm really stretching it here - but he did kill someone, even if it was a 'bad guy'. The sexiest man I've ever seen in a role is Dennis Quaid in The Big Easy - too bad he was never that sexy again, in anything.
-
I have nothing much to offer here, especailly to the topic of Duck Soup and comedians in general - just isn't my thing. I do want to mention, though, that as much as I like Robert Osborne, I know I'm going to miss Peter Bogdanovich. I guess his contract was over? I sure enjoyed him.
-
Pat, I really like Margaret O'Brien, as well, and as I mentioned I don't usually like child actors - I think she's great, however. And I will also request her movies, including The Unfinished Dance, which I've never seen.
-
Alistair Sim.
I do have to agree with whoever said they enjoy The Muppets Christmas Carol with Michael Caine. I think that movie is great fun and our family watches it every year.

-
At the moment, there is one movie that I've been waiting for and wanting to see again for many years - and that would be my choice if I only had one. The movie is Three Strangers with Sydney Greenstreet, Peter Lorre and Geraldine Fitzgerald. It is about 3 strangers (what was your first clue? lol) who buy a sweepstake ticket - and what transpires. I won't say anymore about it - but it's an Essential, IMO.

I was going to post a thread about the May schedule and am glad I did a search beforehand because I found this one. There really isn't too much left to say - lots of great comments already. All I will add is that I am incredibly impressed. IMO this is the best month in a long, long time. There are a lot of pre-code, lesser known films listed for May that I can't wait to see; the wonderful Bette is SOTM; tons of documentaries, I especially like the whole day of them; and as mentioned, Birth of a Nation. I've wanted to see BOAN for years and am really looking forward to it. I know there were other things that I wanted to comment on that I can't remember so I'll just say that I was blown away while reading May's schedule. April and June are not bad, either - but May's is terrific!
Thanks TCMProgrammer - lots of thought went into May's schedule IMO and I, for one, appreciate it.

I totally agree that Rita Hayworth is a knock-out - but I'd like to add Ann-Margret. I think she is one of the most beautiful women of them all, with a dynamite body. What I wouldn't give .............
JanePowellfan, I don't necessarily agree with the comment that men are ugly to other men. I think men know what is attractive and what isn't in another man. I think often heterosexual men are just afraid of people thinking they are gay if they say something postive about another man's looks. I certainly know what I think is beautiful in another woman, and I haven't got a gay bone in my body. I think some men are just afraid to be honest and to look at another man for 'beauty's sake'. And I kinda understand their reasoning.

*grin* I love your sense of humor - - "war, war, war". In reality there are some war movies that I really like.
